My average edc template.
Yes I carry that pack, it's actually not that big and mostly empty, it holds my wildlife/plant/mushroom identification sheets, phone charger, bike gloves and water proof pants for when using my bicicleta. I'm always ready to go hiking or biking.

I want a Model 36 so bad
>>
>>27755734

Most of it fairly clear. No longer than 3 inches and can't lock. Having said that, it's only if you get caught, I live in a quiet town and don't look like a shit bag so I quite often have a spyderco resilience on me.

However you can also be nabbed for an offensive weapon (any item made, intended or adapted for to cause injury). Obviously that is very broad and could include a torch if they could prove you intended to twat someone with it.
>>
>>27755734

There is an offence of having a bladed or pointed article or offensive weapon on school premises and a similar piece of legislation for universities but I would assume that a legal penkife would also be exempt. I AM NOT A LAWYER though.

Federal purchase law only covers purchase from federal dealers. Private sales and gifts are regulated at the state level; most states set that limit at 18.

it's pretty sweet. it's not uncomfortable to carry all day, but's it's not so light that shooting a couple hundred rounds through it at the range is unpleasant. just stay far away from the non-CZ mags, they are pieces of shit.

Yeah, I've been thinking a lot about that, the other options I have here are the Glock 28 or a Bersa PPK.

But I really like the CZ, it costs the same as the G28 here, and might be harder to find mags, but I heard it comes with 3 mags, right?

Nope, went 3.3 but there's a guy wanting my 3.3 for his 4.0, and I'm really tempted.

Never had a failure to activate the grip safety yet - how many draws until you failed to activate?

For me it's a training thing - don't train until you get it right, train until you can never get it wrong.

That being said, I'm probably picking up a Bodyguard w/o laser for summer carry. With the way I like to carry it was pretty bulky and silhouetted a bit more than I like.
>>
>>27768745
How are those Ka-bar TDI's? Had the LDK as a little boot knife for hiking but I lost it when I moved. Liked it, but it was too small for any practical use except a back-up of a back-up.
>>
>>27768785
This was the first time, but I've been sorely lacking on my drawing practice... a lot of rounds downrange but we can't practice draw and shoot at that range. Did maybe 40 draws and just the one miss, but it's a pretty cold chill feeling to think about especially since I didn't realize it until the trigger didn't move.

Agreed on the training bit but on the flip side I've never been fond of the grip safety--I was fond of a 4.0" single stack 9mm.

It's been a really easy weapon to conceal in an environment where getting made will give me serious consequences (but is legal). But it's no good for when I don't want to wear a belt but still have a gun.

Ah, I gotcha. I go to a buddy's house whenever and can do full draw then. Also, agreed, the 4.0" was just gorgeous, and if it weren't for me constantly reminding myself that the 3.3 would be more conventional for my POU, I would've already got the 4.0". I like the grip safety because, despite the serious hate for external safeties on a CC weapon, I prefer one, but one that I can easily deactivate in a hurry if need be - the grip safety just means I can naturally do that, while adding an extra feature.

What kind of holster are you using for yours? I'm a pretty scrawny guy and wear form-fitting shirts, so it does protrude a bit. Not terribly worried about it, but I want something smaller, thinner, and lighter as an alternative for the warm weather.
>>
>>27767287

Hi carry faggots! I am just posting looking for advice/recommendations. I am trying to find and buy a good cc handgun. I am not yet 21, but I want to acquire one before legislation passes and I fear there may be another antigun push in 2016.

Anyways, I am considering a few choices. At first, the kahr pm/cm 9, and sw shield. However, time again we see issues with plastic receivers. From glocknades to shields blowing up... And so I am looking at all metal guns now.

Ideally I want a subcompact 9, and the best two I have seen are the Sig 938, and Kahr MK9. The real difference I see is the trigger. On the sig side, you have a 1911-esque SAO, with thumb safety. On the kahr side, you have their signature long DAO, with no safety.

Thoughts?
>>
>>27768920
When I got my gun, the only company making all-leather IWB holsters with snap loops for the 4.0" was a little company in Pennsylvania named Winthrop Holsters. I can't stand Kydex and I wanted a holster with no chance of flying loose if I took a dive onto the ground (again, serious consequences were I to be seen carrying), so hooks were out. Carried for over a year without anyone the wiser, and it's been very comfortable. Reasonable price too. The only real downside to it is that I wish I could change the cant. Well, and that 3 o'clock carry is like asking for pain on the hipbone, but apparently that's true for all IWB holsters there?
>>
>>27769002
>However, time again we see issues with plastic receivers

Son, manufacturing defects occur in any mass-produced product, to include all-metal guns. Plastic fantastics tend to be the best carry guns on the market.

After CCing for a little while I've come to a realization about a few things--namely, that no matter how much you read about guns, until you start carrying you don't know jack. Meanwhile, the gun companies and publications will have gobs of articles trying to sell you stuff. If it's your first gun I recommend getting a Glock 19, and a police trade-in at that unless you've got another way to get a good deal (Blue Label, friend, whatever). It'll let you get a feel for what you like, it has a huge number of holsters made for it, can be customized easily with other add-ons if you want, has a good number of rounds to it, and is generally one of the most reliable guns out there. Then, if you don't like it, you can Armslist it for probably more than you bought it, because Glocks seem to keep their resale price better than a lot of other handguns.
>>
>>27769004
I gotcha. I'm a big fan of hybrids, and looked through a lot before I settled on the harwell clip n' go. Appendix carry is my preference, and it's specifically designed for it and was almost as cheap as an aliengear in cost - quality is fantastic, though. That being said, I'm probably going to pick up some snap loops because it came with J hooks, and while they're nice, are a little tough to get on and sometimes slip off the belt if I'm moving around a lot.

Going to check Winthrop out though, for sure.

>>27769002
Avoid Kahr. Nothing wrong with polymer guns, if you like all-metal that's one thing, but shields and guns aren't just blowing up. Accept dealing with the weight of an all-metal for CC, but hey, if that's what you want, go for it. Sig 938 is an excellent and the one I suggest of the two. Don't take my word for it though - just go to a gunstore, tell them you're interested in feeling out some handguns before you buy, and try a few out. After you find the ones that fit you best, do some research on the gun, and find out if that's what you want, then go and buy. It's pretty much the best route you can take for your first purchase.
>>
>>27769056
I own close to a dozen guns. I just haven't bought a subcompact yet because I'm 19 and can't legally carry.

I have shot plenty of jframes, so I do know how a DAO feels. At the same time, I own a 1911, and so I see the appeal of a single action as well. I am talking purely about the guns I listed for carry.

As for polymer, we see these issues constantly with polymer guns, not steel. While its true, there are many issues that can occur with each, I trust all metal more. Plastic guns are more prone to damage from impact, and for a carry gun, i want the most durable thing I can fit under my waistband.
>>
>>27769091
Why avoid Kahr? I do not care about their politics or personal beliefs. Is there some actually relevant reason to avoid them?

For carry, what matters in a gun is this:
>will you carry it always
If it's too big for you to carry in your normal attire and you won't dress around it regularly, then don't get it. Note: your holster choice and your belt will make the gun a lot more comfortable than anything about the gun itself. Don't skimp on them. But if you wear shorts without a belt, consider a reliable pocket pistol in .380.
>will it go bang every time
If it's not reliable (and fuck guns with a "break-in period"), it's no good.
>does it have enough bullets
I have carried 7+1 for a long time but after reading more about real-world gunfights and how most are one-handed shooting in an awkward pose and no reloading, am feeling this might not be enough
>what is your ammo cost
9mm is cheap which means more practice for a given dollar amount.

Note that I specifically didn't list anything about bullet size. Anything from .380 or bigger will get the job done per FBI testing IF you're using quality ammo. Make sure you get good stuff as per LuckyGunner or ShootingTheBull's testing.
>>
>>27769124
Cost you pay for the gun you get just isn't a good value. They're not terrible guns, but for the price tag, I want a lot more gun.

Okay, as to the guns you listed? I'd go with the Sig. A quality gun doesn't have a break-in period. Kahrs do. You also hear a lot about them needing to get problems worked out after sending them back to the factory.

As far as using it in a violent encounter, better to train to flicking off a safety when you start than to have a DAO trigger.

I think you're really making a mountain out of a mole hill as far as avoiding polymer. Shit, Hi-Points are polymer and will work just fine after you whallop them with hammers, light them on fire, drill bolts into them...
>>
>>27769130
Thank you for the broken down answers. Ill respond in a similar format:

>will you carry it always
no. I don't feel a need to always have it. I will wear selectivly based on when I feel its needed. That being said, I always wear jeans or dress pants, and always with a thick leather belt. No matter what I go with, from a .380, to a snubnose, to a subcompact 9, I will use a holster.

>will it go bang every time
I disagree on break in period. All guns need one in some form or another, and as long as you run enough rounds through it is no issue. True, the kahr is higher than most, but still. Hell, my 10/22 took like 4 550 boxes of cheap ammo until it would reliably feed.

>does it have enough bullets
I see your point. In virtually all armed conflicts, you need as much ammo as possible. It's not a movie where under stress you can stack shots sub moa. I think there has to be a compromise, between practicality and ammo count. I can't carry a 100 round drum in my pocket. Realistically, I think even a two shot derringer would be a good carry if its the best I can do in the situation. I digress, but, I want at least 6 rounds.
>>
>>27769173
You can sell whenever you want. Guns tend to hold value pretty well and devalue only slightly.

>>27769178
Thank you. While I remain in disagreement on the break in period, I hear you.
>>
>>27769091
I'm looking at switching over to appendix myself but if I lose about 5-10 pounds so that I have a flat stomach I think it will be a lot easier. Also maybe with a gun that doesn't have a 4.0" barrel...

I strongly disagree about selective carry. The only two times I won't carry are where it is illegal to do so (losing my rights is a risk I won't take) and when I am too tired to be able to correctly make the choice about when lethal force is called for. You never know what surprises life has for you, and after a bad situation in a "safe" area of a no-guns country where the other guy had a gun and I didn't, I refuse to disarm without a damnably good reason. Agreed on always using a holster though.

As to break in periods, my XDs did not need any such thing. My AR did not. My shotgun did not. I believe that is a sign of poor craftsmanship, but you aren't the only one to disagree with me on that, and that's fine.

After carrying 7+1 rounds for a long while and trying out carry of a few other guns for a shorter time I do feel that it won't be difficult to increase capacity beyond that for a typical CCW holder, barring for those not wearing belts. You might have multiple attackers. Look at how many rounds this guy used, and he wasn't shooting wildly by any stretch.
>>
>>27769255
Yes, watch the video, how after the first shot rang out, they all took off running. This actually illustrates my point with the .22 derringer. No one wants to get shot, by anything. Hell, I don't want to get shot by a pellet gun, let alone a 9mm. Unless we are talking about a situation where you are against an armed active shooter, I don't see a need for dozens of rounds. That being said, I enjoy my 30 round magazines for my ar and ak, and the extended magazine on my gock. It is your right to carry whatever you think is necessary for your own defense. If you want to keep an RPG round up your ass just in case, feel free (if you paid your tax stamp).

As for selective carry, sorry, but my 90% white suburb is pretty damn safe. If I have to cross through some nigger neighborhood, I want a gun at the ready. As racist as it is, you know I'm not wrong. Anyways, once again, you can carry whenever and where ever you want, as I said earlier, your self defense is your responsibility and you have the right to approach it in any way you want.
>>
>>27769309
If you're playing the averages, it's 3 shots, 3 yards, 3 seconds. But if you're playing the averages we don't really need guns for protection while out and about. I don't entirely disagree with you, by the way--I carried 7+1 today, will be carrying 7+1 on my belt tomorrow, and I plan to buy a 6+1 .380 (which apparently can become a 7+1 with a new spring).

I made sure to live in a safe neighborhood without any minorities whatsoever when I was living overseas but still had someone come to my home with a gun (nor was he a minority). I wear a gun while in my home now, and I still made sure to live in a safe neighborhood. Not saying you're wrong, and there's absolutely areas when I'm on a lot more alert than others based on the folks living there, but I stopped thinking anywhere is truly "safe" several years ago.
>>
>>27769358
All I'm saying that actually needing to use a cc handgun is rare, and actually needing more than one shot is a rare instance within it.

Sure, we are talking about an averages game, and that's why I said you draw the line for yourself, set it where you want. Self defense is entirely your on prerogative.

>>27769358
I agree, there is crime everywhere and you are taking a risk everywhere. This plays into my last comment, you set your threshold where you want and I will do the same for myself.

I naked carry with the barrel nestled between my thigh and ball sack.
I have 3 holsters and I hate them all.
I used to have an IWB uncle mike's that worked alright but it got worn out and broke, It's what I used for carry for 2 years, after the belt clip ripped off, I mistakenly bought a hard plastic IWB holster for a Beretta Cheetah, so the damn gun poked above my waist line like a sea stack.
I then bought the little gimmick "holster" made in Texas, the kind with the stupid stick that you shove into the muzzle of your barrel.
The clip on that thing slipped off my belt too many times getting in and out of cars.
I have an OWB uncle mike's that I never use because I'm 24 and I live in a liberal shithole where guns make you evil.
When I just stick it in my pants and tighten my belt, I can ride my bicycle around town and it just sits tight underneath my fold of belly fat.
I know it seems reckless, but it works for me.
I'm just sick of spending money on holsters when I know I can just jam the fucker in my pants, where it stays in place and never prints.

I agree with you about shooting someone after making them, but if they have start off unarmed and then pull a knife or gun and are clearly still capable then a shoot would be justifiable. You are allowed to use the "1 step up" approach when defending yourself (according to lawyers). If they have fists, you can pull a knife or OC or whatever, if they have a bat/knife/gun/ blow them away.

I think the actually good ones start at around $80-100 and can go up to $150+.

Otherwise Fenix makes some decent enough ones in the $30-50 range, but their UI sucks in comparison to the good ones.

I like your bracelet, where can I get a similar one?

Not him, but it looks like a buddist prayer bracelet. Try ebaying it, should show up
>>
>>27759513
That must have been one sloppy draw. I cant miss the grip safety even if I try, I literally have to hold the gun in a way that I wouldn’t be able to fire it even without the safety.

Shit like this is how you spot someone that's never even held a pistol with a grip safety.

Most states don't give you a horizontal until you renew after turning 21. I could have kept my vertical until I was 24 if I hadn't renewed early.

How difficult is it to hit the thumb safety on the Shield in practice? I tried one at a range and was amazed by how small and hard to reach it was.
>>
>>27783497
i havent had problems with it. that said i am a lefty who only engages safety while holstering the weapon (disengage once it's in)

eh I am really tired of the VP9 meme, yeah I own and carry it but no it is not the best thing since sliced bread and no I did not buy it because I bought into the H&K elitism. After all the pistols I tested the VP9 marginally edged out Glock and the PPQ in my opinion.
