This list just screams mall ninja.

Get a pair of peltors without commo ability, it's a lot of extra money for a feature you won't use

I have a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sports I use every time I go shooting.

They weren't very expensive and the profile could be a bit lower. Cheek-weld with them is decent, but it does bump the right ear-piece up a little with perfect cheek-weld.

I do think it hurts my ears a little if I turn the volume up completely, better to leave it about mid volume unless you are listening for deer or something.

Peltor tack sports are pretty good and very comfortable. They cost about twice as much as the Howard light ones that you always see, but I've had both and the Peltors are worth the price. If they need to fit under a helmet it's going to cost a lot more. Also you can use a set of pic related they do the same thing and you can stack them for better protection. I've worked on the USAF flight line for the last 12 years and I haven't lost any hearing function they test us every year. When we're using jammers in enclosed spaces for loading or when the jets are spinning we have to wear double hearing pro. I use the Surefires under a pair of Peltors. If the base allows it I wear the Tack sports I bought about five ears ago if not I wear a pair of plain non active Peltors I was issued. The Surefire EP's are nice because the little hole lets you hear noises of a safe level and it lets your ears breath a little. When you have to have them in for hours on end it makes a big difference.

That's not what's in electronic ear protection, you can't drown out the noise of a gunshot with another sound...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earmuffs
>Some ear defenders employ active sound protection, in which a microphone mounted in the headset picks up ambient sounds and transmits them through a dynamic range compression circuit to earphones inside. By virtue of the dynamic compression, the headset can be adjusted to allow the wearer to hear sounds at ordinary volumes normally, while attenuating louder sounds. Similar active earplugs also exist, primarily aimed at musicians.
