Usually, yes, there's a bit of planning involved. In recent times, the military has taken quite a few steps on making sure people getting out understand the resources available to them and what exactly they'll need to think about before they leave. Before leaving the navy I went to a week long TAPS-GPS class that covered everything from writing job resumes, balancing a budget, and even basic investments and credit building practices.

However, sometimes your particular situation might be fucked. In my case, I was on a deployment until literally a month before my separation, so I was sent through the class in with about two weeks left in the military, when it's supposed to be done when you're around six months before getting out. I talked to a few people there who were being administratively separated and they had even less time than I did before they were to be cut free.

I hated the military from the day I enlisted. I don't even know why I did it.. probably because I was young and dumb. It's just pure incompetence from the moment you join. I got my hunting license when I was 10 so I knew a fair bit about sighting in rifles. I had to convince my drill sergeant that he was full of shit and let me sight in my rifle my own way. Went on to be a top shooter in the company and no one gave me shit after that. Guys were asking to use my rifle in qualification because they couldn't figure it out. That is the military.. you have no control over your own destiny. Retards control you over there and get you and your friends killed.

I don't want to make a seperate thread for this but, i want to join the airforce for what MOS i don't know yet, i can pass all the qualifications for the PT with flying colors right now, and as of right now i'm in community college taking only 1 class, next semester i might only take 3 classes, basically i feel somewhat lost and bored in life right now, i have no one to talk to or run or lift with, would joining it for 4 years be a good idea if i went to a recruiter sometime this summer??

I took the asvab a few months ago and got an 80 flat, i need the money also since i can't seem to get a steady job with no facebook, also i'm pretty sure it will help me grow as a person, also i'm good at following orders, i'd really like to do an airborne MOS which i could be in the air most of the time.

Best time to see a recruiter would be about now when they're slow for departures. Summer time is their busy period because of all the kiddies graduating who didn't think about college.You'll also probably have to wait a bit to get in, as the Air Force usually has no trouble making it's quotas, so it would probably be wise to check in know. You don't have to commit to anything before you're officially in, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

Just from my own experiences, Air Force recruiters seem to be a lot more hands off. As in, they won't go out of their way as often as the other branches because they don't want for recruits much. Like when I was researching which branch to join, I had to drive to meet the AF recruiter an hour away. The Marine recruiter offered to pick me up when he was passing by and the Navy guy straight up offered to come meet me at my house. This was the better part of a decade ago though, so attitudes may have changed and, of course, the recruiter may very be a great person or douche on their own initiative.

GI Bill is only for Full Time Students, so if you're CC plans are less than 12 credit/hours a semester, you might need to wait until your able to go full time. Otherwise you got a fairly straight idea.

Enlisted family told me to stick with whatever I want to do and be officer not enlisted no matter what. To be honest my life is cheap thrills, and I know real combat will be nothing like I expect probably one hundred times beyond that. I can't explain this desire. I'm not doing it for country or any philosophy. Just want to see my potential.

If 375 is really a large weight for you, you must be new to deadlifting. I can pull 375 for reps after a 18 hour shift (manual labor job) on 4 hours of sleep and haven't having eaten anything all day.

As long as you're attached to a line company, it's the best damn job in the Army. The whole key to being happy in the service is being a special little snowflake, like being a Combat Medic in a company full of tankers. You're different, so you're treated differently (in a good way). I was assigned to the PSG's tank and acted as the loader. Pic is related, getting ready for a patrol.

I was an MP when I first enlisted, but changed my MOS after a few years. I went to Fort Sam as prior service and loved every second of it. Honestly, it's one of the highlights of my service. I never got stationed in Germany or Italy or anywhere cool, just Texas and Georgia. San Antonio is one of the best cities I've ever stayed in, and I wouldn't hesitate to move back there some day in the future.


It's only 16 weeks of AIT, but it's accelerated training, so there's testing every other day, sometimes every day of the week. Lots of material being taught in a short period of time. You'll come out with an EMT-Basic certification, so that'll be useful once you get out of the service.

Overall, I wish I had signed up as a Combat Medic from the very beginning.

The one and only cool legit thing I got to keep from my time in the Army was a genuine "war trophy" in the form of a bayonet that was found as part of a cache search. Besides a bunch of AKs, RPG, and IED parts, there was a crate of bayonets, and our XO and CO signed a DD 603-1 for each of us to keep one. I keep it on top of a cabinet with my shadow box and other moto bullshit. Please pardon the blurry ass shitty picture.

Considering that 17 year old gets free food, free housing, subsidized clothing, free medical care for everything, free transportation to and from work, and 30 days paid vacation per year, I think there's maybe a little entitlement complex going on. Civilians have to pay for all or most of the above listed perks, except the vacation if they luck into a job that has paid vacation.
