Good job nerdy anon. This is one of my very favorite rifles from a lesser WWII power.
>>
>>23146236
M.95M only comes in one caliber. They are Austro-Hungarian and Bulgarian Steyr M.1895 rifles in 8x50mmR captured during WW1 and afterward re-built/re-barreled to use the same 7.9x57mm cartridge as the new standard Yugoslavian service rifle, the FN-Herstal M1924.

It's specifically an 8x57 IS conversion of M.95's. Done by the Yugoslavians in the 1930's. They fire the exact same ammo and use the exact same stripper clips as the Mausers. In fact, the barrel and sights it has are essentially just the parts for an M1924 rifle.

M.95M's can be hard to find for a reasonable price when they still have the internal clip in place and extractor intact. Even more so if they have both and are all matching. Such condition is not rare, but uncommon enough to be rather annoying to acquire.
>>
>>23146424
I see. Well, it might be a while then. I prefer all matching if I can get it, so I can't prioritize an M95, then. I guess it'll just be one of those things I look out for at gunshows.

Nah, bit it is pretty lovely. I really want to get one of those some day - Privi 7.5 Frog is also a lot more reasonable than I was expecting, at just a cunt-hair shy of a buck a shot here in Canada.

Best bolt gun of the war was probably the Lee Enfield, as capacity is important and it was certainly tough enough. After that, the Arisaka because retardedly strong.

Arisaka was a great and extremely underrated combat bolt action rifle. They did go a bit overboard by adding the AA sights and monopod on the earlier T99's though. I am a fan of the DC however.

I love it that Japanese rifles are starting to get a lot of widespread respect, but I don't the high prices that it entails, lol. I'm trying to get in on Carcanos before Italian rifle prices go the way of Japanese!

You're lucky you even have an Arisaka. Considering we didn't really fight the Japanese to the extent that the Americans or even the British did, they are not exceptionally popular rifles here in Canada. I would absolutely love a Type 38, though, even if it would be hard to find one in acceptably good shape and ammunition would be stupid expensive. Norma makes pretty much the only factory load, right?

Good man, planning on getting a Carcano! A 91/41 will be my next gun purchase and I'm going to use it as my excuse to get into reloading as 6.5 Carcano is apparently easy on powder, low enough pressure to give you great case life and generally fairly easy to load for, from what I've read.

Here's my SKS carbines. Anyone who's curious about them is free to ask specifics - I think this post is long enough as it is.

it was in working condition and all that, but would that be considered a high price?
>>
>>23147561
Those break-down Ari's are fucking awesome; shame they're tough to find and the ammo is like unicorn shit. My insane uncle Dan kept a breakdown Ari behind his bucket seat and a box of 7.7jap in the glovebox for years. Loved to take the thing whitetail hunting, said it was a great rifle.

I should call that old nutter and see if he wants to sell it to me.
>>
>>23147653

The going is good for SKS's here, currently. They are inexpensive and plentiful. The one on the far left is an unrefurbished, unissued 1950 Tula with the original spring-loaded firing pin. I bought it from a sale a company here had for 'collector grade' Russian SKS's. I paid a 20 dollar premium for a 'collector grade' one sight unseen, and received this.

For $199 before tax and shipping. I'm pretty fortunate.
>>
>>23147707
As long as the bore is good, it's a very good price.

I couldn't get a decent .22 for that in my area. Fucking Jew York.

Very nice, though. How's it shoot? One of my buddies had an SKS growing up, it was crazy inaccurate; thinking back, someone probably shot surplus out of it and then didn't clean it.
>>
>>23147716

7.7 is actually the economical Arisaka round to shoot, considering the casings aren't semi-rimmed retarededness like 6.5x50 and reloading data is identical to .303 Bong.

It's still expensive, but it's not 6.5x50 expensive. I really wish Type 99's gave me the boner that Type 38's do, I'd save myself so much money when I eventually get one and invest in the ammo.
>>
>>23147736
Not in New York, they're not.
>>
>>23147766
Huh, no shit. A work friend reloads .303 all the time; if I can get Dan to sell or give me the rifle, I'll have to see about dropping a bottle of JB white on the guy for a hundred rounds or so.
>>
Does this seem like a decent deal? I don't know anything about SKSs.
http://www.classicfirearms.com/chicomsks-b
>>
>>23147757

I'll be completely honest with you, I haven't shot it and I probably won't. My reasoning being, even in the land of syrup and cheap SKS's, they'll get more expensive some-day. When they do, an untouched, unrefurbished early-model carbine will be worth a hell of a lot more than I paid for it. Even then, I know deep down I probably won't sell it - I'm not a seller of guns.

I've fired all the other ones, and they are honestly not as bad as everyone says they are. They're all minute-of-man out to 300m or so with surplus ammo. Not a single one of my SKS's has ever seen brass-cased ammo and likely never will unless someone gives me some or the surplus dries up.

I'm a few hours from New York, in Ottawa. Went to Watertown a few years ago and enjoyed drooling over all the short-barreled pistols I'm not allowed to own here. Governments, no matter where you are, fucking suck.
>>
>>23147807

Bullets and powder charge are the same, as far as I know. It's essentially an un-rimmed .303, though the Japs did make a rimmed version for machine gun use. May have been semi-rimmed, I don't remember.

If you shoot and reload .303, or have a friend who does, a Type 99 is a lot less of a hassle to get into. Keep in mind, though, a hundred rounds of 7.7 Jap brass will cost you a fair chunk of change.
>>
>>23147838
Ah, yeah, I totally get that. I have an unfired hex Mosin; for the same exact reasoning. It cost me maybe $120 a few years ago, and you don't see hexes for any less than $300 in my area these days. Might turn out to be a good investment, haha.

Watertown's a really nice, low-crime city. I have some family up there. I'm in Syracuse, unfortunately.

> Governments, no matter where you are, fucking suck
Amen.

>>
>>23147901
if i recall it said 7.92x57mm on receiver
>>
>>23147866
Oh, of course. I know if I get it, I'm going to drop a few hundred on some rounds, just for the brass, haha. This is all dependant upon the fact that Dan doesn't still love the thing and will sell it to me, which is kind of unlikely, hahaha.

Dude got into a motorcycle accident a few years back, and got a huge settlement because it fucked him up pretty bad, right? Spent 10% of it on a new trailer and the rat snake to live underneath, and the rest of it on handguns. Some kind of 'police special' .357, a Ruger .44 blackhawk, and one of those retard huge S&W's chambered in .500. Shit's like a foot long and weighs like six pounds fully loaded- he took a black bear with it a few years back.

Oh, and he got a permit to hunt with a crossbow because the accident fucked his arm. He does so regularly. Rednecks are my lifeblood, and uncle Dan is the king of the rednecks.

Holy shit. That thing is beautiful.

How much is it to shoot?
>>
>>23147888

It's funny you're going to maybe make money off of a nugget, because so am I. Last Christmas-ish, a company here brought in M38 Carbines for $160 dongs or so. At that price, I had to have one even if nuggets aren't my biggest cup of tea. Plus, the carbines are cool.

That deal sold out in under two days, and then everyone wanted an M38. Another company brought them in, capitalized on the demand and charged 300+ for them. Now, that's what the go for used at the very least.

It's been less than a year and I could make at least 100 bucks on a fucking Nugget. I won't, though, as as much as I don't like admitting it, it's fun to shoot.

Amazingly. It's basically a FAL before the FAL existed, and the gas systems are very similar. We were shooting Privi 150 Grain .30-06 and it wasn't at all hard to wrestle. Though, I am 6'4 and not too easily phased by recoil.

I'd love to own one, but they're getting more and more expensive. Also, the fucking thing kicked the brass like 20 feet and mangled it pretty badly. Not the greatest for a rifle that shoots something I'd probably want to reload to feed.

Yes. The German sS-Patrone 197.5gr spitzer load is a bit more powerful than the M1 ball load, and the Yugo surplus M49 ball is approximately the same power as the sS-Patrone. It is easily managed.

Anywhere I can buy a usable M1 Garand?

I don't care if it's still a 'classic' or if it's all 'tactical' out, as long as it fires true

I just want to give a good gun a loving home, I promise to feed it, clean it, and take it to the doctor when it's sick, I will also let it sleep in my bed

You could always just get one at a LGS, but expect to pay at least a grand. I got my rifle, 400 rounds of ammo, and a bayonet for about that.

When I got mine I used a hunter safety card I got for completing a 2-4 hour class years ago. Hunter safety courses are piss easy to complete. Alternatively next time you're at a range you could go up to the RO and let him know what you want to do and get him to sign off on the form for you. Most RO's that I've talked to know about CMP.

>>

Most autoloading pistols should be fine if you used hollow points. You'd have to look up and find out which feed best with HP's though.

A few examples: Makarov, P64, CZ82

Of course you could just use a nugget if you don't care whether your neighbors survive.

There's nothing strictly speaking wrong with milsurp, but modern guns are generally going to be better with higher magazine capacity, cheap and easier to find ammo, and more choices in types of ammo. The only real downside would be initial cost of getting the gun.

At the end of the day though, a 9x18 will kill somebody just as dead as a .50AE, so it's really just up to what gun you'd want most in your price range that will function reliably.

I especially like the double barrel. Got it recently through an auction because a hunter died and the family couldn't/didn't want to keep the guns. With the right barrel I already hit dead center, the left barrel will take some more training I guess. In all seriousness, what is the purpose of having the entire length of the barrel covered in wood? Why not just a small portion, like the M1 Carbine?

I can see so many negatives and no positives.
>weighs a fuckton

>traps heat inside handguard preventing barrel cooling
>prevents option of free-floating

>>weighs a fuckton
Wow, that little bit of extra wood is too heavy?...Have you ever held an enfield?
And I think it helps with not dinging up the barrel.
You know, with bombs and shit going on around you it's kind of hard not to get a piece of shrapnel in your barrel.
>>
>>23165945
>no positives.

It protects the barrel from damage by absorbing impacts and distributing the force.

Allows you to grab the barrel when fighting with the bayonet.

Proper bedding works just as well as free-floating for an infantry rifle.

No.4 rifles had free floating heavy barrels from the factory. the SMLE wasn't designed to be free floated and performs better when properly tightened down into the stock.

Yeah, I have held an Enfield. I own one. My grandpa sporterized it and bedded it into a monte carlo stock and hunted deer and hogs with it for decades.

Here's my oldest arsenal pic. It's about six years old. The AR isn't set up like that anymore (thank God because it's cringeworthy), the M91/30 is long gone, and the M48 pending a sale.

And here's the most recent.

I've got my guns divided between my apartment and my parents' house, so not pictured in this pic are all of the rifles in the previous pic minus the vz.58 and the sold off M91/30, and two Type 99s that I've got at my folks' house still.

Very nice. Funny how it works, isn't it? That AR looks like shit haha. Then again my Saiga 12 looks the same as it used to, which is like shit.

Here's my most recent arsenal pic. It's missing like 5 guns. That's the bitch of taking arsenal pics; there's always another one on the way.

I love it. It's a fantastic rifle. I bought it from Czechpoint with a fixed stock and six magazines for $650 around six years ago, back when they paid you shipping and FFL fees for you and before they started wanting $1100 for their rifles. I got offered $2000 for it immediately after Sandy Hook and I'm still kinda kicking myself for not taking it.
>>
>>23171990
You should have taken it, but I guess that's just my outsider perspective.

Oh I know I should have, but part of me felt bad for using the scare to make money. Still though, two grand! That would have been very, very nice.

I've sinned /k/! I sold my beat up old M44 awhile back, because I never shoot it anymore. I was hoping to pass it on to a young Kommando who would shoot it until it fell apart. When I met up though I had my doubts. The kid was a little scrawny limp handshaking faggot type. I went ahead with the sale though anyways since he had driven quite a ways. As we were parting I said, "enjoy it!". The little cocksucker turned around smiled and said, "oh I don't shoot them I just pack them away and keep them until they're gonna be worth something". I died a little that day.

I wish the first Romanian SKS I bought wasn't shit. I had to take it back to the gunstore owner and he swapped it out for a PU nugget with a little cash from me to cover the distance. He's got another one in, and this one should be good. I'm still figuring if I can get some skis along with that SKS by the end of this year.

The first SKS had a mag problem. Feedlips were worn and spread. The Mosin I got is in amazing condition.

I asked this question in the Krag thread the other day and got half of an answer so I'll go again: Do aftermarket receiver sights designed for US Krags work with Norwegian receivers as well? Someone told me that the Redfield 70K uses the slot that the receiver cutoff occupies (which is what I wanted; I don't want to fuck with my receiver at all) but when I was looking them up online the seller said in the ad that they only work with American Krags and despite extensive googling I've been unable to find out if that's correct or just fudds fudding.

My uncle just gave me bubba'd Mosin that he dug out of a dumpster with no bolt, it is a 30'06 conversion but it is not a Bannerman. It has a Remington hex receiver on it but I'm wondering if it is sacrilege (or even possible) to buy a 91/30 and swap the receiver (and maybe the old iron sights) out. Anyone?

Does anyone own one of those German milsurp flecktarn Parka's.
Can't really go wrong for £35 but if anyone does have one could they give me their thoughts on it and the quality of both the Parka and the Lining?
>>
>>23186264
You're in the wrong milsurp thread. You're looking for the milsurp camo circlejerk thread. This is the milsurp weapons thread. However, the parka with liner works for all but the coldest weather for me. I wear it down into the 20s but not much colder. That's fahrenheit btw.
>>
>>23186288
Thanks buddy, couldn't find the other.
>>
>>23186293
The other thing that was weird to me when I got mine is that the parka doesn't attach to the liner in any way.

Also, just search for milsurp. It's always in the titles of both threads
