Kotatsu are really comfy in winter but make sure you actually like sitting on the floor first. I had a kotatsu when I was in Japan in the middle of winter and it was really nice but I got really uncomfortable sitting on the floor after a while. It's best if you can find something for a backrest like a wall while you're sitting, so you at least have some back support.
