70s or 80s Japan? Its a close race in every frontier from anime to idols to general comfiness
What was even good in the 70s? You like those dum 3d chicks that either killed themselves or are grannies nowadays, but outside of that what about the 70s was interesting? Not even anime.

The key difference between 70s and 80s Japan is that 80s Japan didn't have as many hostage crisis, terrorism by the Nihon Sekigun and gunfights as the 70s, plus it was blessed by idols, economic bubble and Famicom.
So of course, I'm gonna pick the 80s.

fair enough, but 70s had plenty of its own brand of idols, they were just more performance focused.

80s because growing up playing Shenmue has made me nostalgic for a time and place I never actually lived through.
I'm also really into city pop.

> nostalgic for a time and place I never actually lived through
This needs to be coined into a term. I feel the same way with the 70s from Chibi Marukochan, even though it didn't air till 1990.
Post 80s Akihabara, I would love to have been able to visit Japanese arcades in the 80s

I get this feeling way too much for any place and time period that I am introduced to even as remotely as having read a sentence about it.
I didn't even know what the Nihon Sekigun was until now, but I sure wish I were there to be terrorised by them.
