I mean she wasn't that powerful as a god, as she was defeated by Okina. Or at least, her followers were purged. Her religion was basically only recorded in that one ancient book of Japanese history. No one is saying she was some ancient overpowered evil, just someone with a serious grudge.

And yeah, as a deity she obviously had to be respected. Even if she doesn't have any real followers left and thus isn't anywhere near her full powers.
