Only got one doujinshi because I usually just go to browse and look at/take pics of the cosplayers and buy more stuff in the stores later when I can actually focus without dealing with crowds/heat.

I forgot they don't give you plastic bags when you buy something for a moment - this one guy probably thinks I'm a baka gaijin for asking.

Honestly lately I want to become a more active participant in these events, I wonder if anyone here on /jp/ is part of a circle or something.

Sure. Most of them just signed pieces of paper or did a doodle; Shouji Ayumu was super friendly, and blew me away by giving me a folder and disposable fan and his signature on a plain piece of paper, too, just in case.

Also had an interesting conversation with Yukiu Con about being a woman in the male-dominated industry, especially when it comes to loli, and her reasons for making this sort of stuff.

I'm too much of a pussy to buy doujins and risk taking them back to the US - stuff will be scanned soon anyway - and the main appeal to me was just getting to talk with them and let them know I was a fan of their work.

>>17472644
Decently well.

Henreader and Yukiu Con. Henreader one is a hastily-printed 8-page doujin sample and Yukiu-san's is just a back-and-front page ripped from a doujin sample printout she had (we deemed the rest as probably too explicit).

>>
>>17472685
Awesome, anon, i've always wanted to meet the artists in person and say how much i love their work, but now i am curious, what are Yukiu Con reasons for making loli? She makes it just because it's cute or she actualy likes the lewd stuff?
>>
>>17472851
Holy shit, nice. Where are you from? Are you mailing it back or what?

If you mind me asking: who are the artists for the following? Top row, 4th from left (からかいつくす2?); second row 4th from right; third row far right; third row second 2nd from right; bottom row 2nd, 3rd, and 6th from left. Thank you so much.
>>
>>17472870
She said because she likes drawing cute girls - I don't think she's actually that into it. I presume it sells better than just, like, artbooks/doujinshi of SFW stuff so that's probably a motivating factor as well.
>>
>>17472851
nice work anon, how early did you turn up?

I've only been to comiket once but the place was half empty (loli wise) by 1pm

Are you the guy posting those loli artist signatures? Fuck, you should have met the other jpers, I'd have loved to have met you.

Regardless if you are or not, I live here so I'm not taking anything back.

Artists:

Top row, 4th from left: Karakaix
Second row: 4th (and 3rd) from the right: Milkyberry
Third row far right: Akatama (Sakurafubuki Nel) - a personal favorite
Third row 2nd from right: Mapler
Bottom row 2nd (and 1st): Arekusa Thunder - another favorite
Bottom row 3rd: Focke Wolf
Bottom row 6th: Dancyo

Yup. Ah, that's nice, don't have to deal with that. Do you live in/around Tokyo or did you travel here for it?

Ok, good, thought that was Sakurafubuki Nel - couldn't read his signature (pic related). A favorite of mine too, and the doujin looked great. Hoping for scans soon. Also saw some of milkberry's stuff and was planning to look up more stuff about them later since I'm only vaguely familiar with 'em.

Haven't heard of Arekusa Thunder, will definitely look into them. And oh shit, Focke Wolf was there? Had no clue. Fuck, would really have loved to have met them or at least seen what they were offering.

Sorry I missed you guys! I don't really post here all that often, and it was my first Comiket and such - just happened to be in Tokyo for it - my flight back home's actually in a few days, after being in the country for a number of months. Perhaps in the future.

Take advantage of your tourist priveledges to not give a fuck. I walk around wearine anime pins on my bag strap and enter convenience stores to browse through their porn magazine covers like it's nobody's business.
"yesterday" I was literally fast walking inside comiket shoving people around in the morning just to get to a booth, snatch a preview copy (the top book on a stack if it's currently being used) to check on it while nodding to the booth person/artist, and either bow apologetically and leave or quickly paying for the copy, grabbing a fresh copy and legiing it again.
Now I have roughly 180 doujins that I don't really know how to send home.

>>
>>17473308
they'd really appreciate it. like they'd be like holy shit thank you so much. and everyone's there buying it so it's no big deal
>>
>>17473308
I never felt nervous at comiket just because there are so many thousands of people all buying loli/yaoi/yuri porn like me, even as a gaijin you;re not special.

the only time I felt nervous was in the hentai section of mandrake/animate (akihabara), not because of buying porn but because random western tourists stagger around the top floor to be "lul so random japan is SOOO gross xD". I was walking around trying to look for decent catgirl porn and all I have to hear is these normie tourists acting shocked because they walked into a porn store
>>
>>17473409

This is twice my whole collection of doujinshi.
>>
>>17473409
so what is that like 500bucks in doujins? I knew some swedes that shipped back stuff in massive boxes after years studying and buyfagging, can't be cheap
>>
has anyone here ever ordered 300+ doujins in a single package? i'm about to do that but kinda worried about shipping price.
>>
>>17473688
If you can buy 300 doujins, shipping price should be your last concern.
>>
>>17473688
how do you even manage to order 300+ dou in one go?
Do shops have a "select all" button?
>>
>>17472851
Kind anon, could you give me the name of bottom row, 5 from left?
>>
>>17473688
Check with your forwarder. Give them an approximate for size, weight and item type and they'll quote you the price.
In some countries you will have to deal with your customs if you ship in too much stuff in bulk. I knew someone in China who ordered around 80 CDs last year, the import tax wasn't fun to look at.

Oh man that's awesome! Those are some of my favorite artists as well and I'd kill for a signature/sketch from any of them. Unfortunately I left a few days before Comiket, so I'll have to plan for it proper in the future. It sucks to think I was going through Mandarake and Toranoana and the like for doujinshi from most of those artists just a week ago and had I planned my trip better I could've met them in person. My Japanese is garbage though so I don't know how well I'd fare in asking for a sign.
>>
>>17473549
>western tourists stagger around the top floor to be "lul so random japan is SOOO gross xD". I was walking around trying to look for decent catgirl porn and all I have to hear is these normie tourists acting shocked because they walked into a porn store
Tourists like these make my blood boil (honestly, fuck "tourists" in general). They take up space and are smelly, obnoxious, and loud and think it's so hi-fucking-larious that they're in a "cartoon porn store." Like what a completely bizarre and unfathomable concept: pornography! Wow xD! They go around filming their faggy vlog or whatever on a selfie stick and get in your way and bump into everyone and everything acting like they own the fucking place. I was digging for doujinshi in Complex one night and a couple guys put on a whole bit about "OMG DUDE TENTACLES LMAO," even repeating themselves to make sure everyone on the floor knew what was up. Another bitch in Animate made sure everyone was aware of her disdain for "THEY'RE LIKE KIDS UGH GROSS I DON'T EVEN WANNA KNOW WHAT THAT'S ABOUT" lolicon material. Holy shit, just die.

I guess we can thank shitters like these for the complete and utter death of Akiba and its rebirth into a city-wide tourist trap.

I've seen this too

completely cringe tier and makes you wonder why the hell they shack up at akih, I doubt animate give a fuck though considering they are making enough money luckily.
>>
>>17474436
This shit is going to be worse in 2020.
>>
>>17474436
Luckily I didn't bump into anyone like that in akiba. It'd be difficult not to ask them "then why did you come here?"

Although if you just head west of Chuo Dori and into shops over there (Melonbooks B, Mandarake, Nagomi, etc) then you probably have a far lesser chance of bumping into people like that.
>>
>>17474834
In such a case I just shoot a death glare. All the other customers generally either ignore them or give them unsavory looks so I hope it makes them feel uncomfortable, but when you're that openly obnoxious it probably doesn't matter much.

>>17475354
>I doubt animate give a fuck though considering they are making enough money luckily.
Literally no one gives a shit except for these tourists. For everyone else it's normal to see that kind of material everywhere. What's even stranger was that she was eagerly going through the BL stuff so I suppose it was just some pointless moral posturing, but it's shitty to rag on another person's fetish just to feel better about yourself (and as if BL didn't have a ton of shota content).

>>17475563
Yeah I noticed as soon as you go into the alleys the "tourist" feel is cut by about half. Mandarake is still unfortunately teeming with them, Kotobukiya is fucked, but Melonbooks B is mellow and Autumn Leaf is completely pure. In general, I think tourists gravitate to places with figures and random chara goods because of their visibility. I rarely saw anyone in the R18 sections of Toranoana or Comic Zin.

My recent trip just made me fully realize how colonized Akiba is. Nakano Broadway is much, MUCH better by comparison (content and atmosphere-wise) but it's also also getting pretty bad. In all honesty, the most mellow place for otaku-related shopping now is probably Den Den Town and the Mandarakes in Osaka. I found some really great shit there and it was quiet and laid back and had minimal tourists fucking around and no annoying stupid Maidreamin on every corner. I even managed to pick up some eromanga I missed in Akiba at a discount and what I assume were Osaka store exclusive goods at the Toranoana.

It was so cool to meet all of them. Literally almost all of my favorite artists. Yeah, I'm glad I thought "hey, Comiket's around then, I'll check that out" when making plans a few months back. Hopefully you found something cool by them or other artists that you could get (though not sure about taking it back with you, depending on where you're from) at least. Those stores have introduced me to some new artists as well just through looking through their collection of books and such.

Wouldn't be hard to memorize one phrase (the word is just "sign" サイン anyway) and I'm sure they'd appreciate you asking/trying and the recognition either way, if you ever have a chance in the future.

Translating for attention to this serious issue:
Asanagi:
>Thought I was going to get some thoughts about my new comic when I woke up this morning, but instead I got some tweets about a guy planning on killing me. Pretty sad.
Guy:
>I seriously hate you (Asanagi), I think killing you is the right thing to do. But if I kill you now I'll get caught by the cops. Wouldn't want that. But lately I've been considering killing myself. So I figured if I was going to kill myself I should kill you first. Doing that, I would have no regrets left. I think killing you right now is the first priority
>Kill yourself. Kill this guy. How does it feel being laughed at by your parents, saying "there's no way a piece of shit like you could become a mangaka(TL note: mangaka means manga artist)". Eventually a failure, that's what kind of waste of space you are. Just keep it like that until you grow old and die. That's as far as you can get. It's fine if I kill you. I'm a foreigner btw.

It's impossible to capture. I tried but it doesn't even come close to the original. Okay, may be a bit better with a proper scanner but you just don't get the same light and color effects of the high quality paper and perfect print.
>>
>>17478151
Probably trying to throw anyone taking the threat seriously off the scent. What's Asanagi done wrong now anyway?
>>
>>17478151
Fake. When you receive legitimate death treats the police explicitly tells you to not do shit like slander someone on Twitter. This is just attention whoring.

>>17478019
I mean, she draws cute girls, and always has. That's the part she likes about it most and focuses on, and I think that quality shows in her work. Dunno why she really chooses to do the style she does instead of say, straight shota, or even just SFW stuff (Ichigo Mashimaro, Mitsuboshi Colors etc., even though those authors obviously have less than pure thoughts) but I'd guess money is a motivating factor, as it would be to anyone, as long as she's okay with that style of work. Not that loli artists in Japan really make that much money anyway though.

>the complete and utter death of Akiba and its rebirth into a city-wide tourist trap
I really miss some of the grungy old shops, even if they had less stock. The old Mandarake was really comfy.

I don't know how people can rampage around being so obnoxious. I feel bad being in the shops at all sometimes. I try to browse the same aisle as someone and they immediately leave. I'm so sorry.
>>
>>17478288
akiba has toned down a bit, although it's probably for the better
>>
>>17478331
What do you mean? Like toned down its current image of a tourist trap or its glorious past because it would suck hard if it's the former. I'm going to visit again next month and it would be just awful to see it turn into ironic weeb district.
>>
It's surprising there's people here who do things like go to Comiket when this board is almost entirely just ironic weebery and anti-otaku and anti-anime and anti-Japan shit and people having no idea what they're talking about.
>>
>>17478371
I'm assuming they're referring to how it has become more navigable, palatable, and oriented to the "mainstream". But that started happening more than a decade ago.
>>
>>17474436
Fuck I know that too well. This is why I like to go to Akiba right after work in full suit / salaryman kit. At least you won't get immediately lumped together with these cretins. The other day I was minding my own business on TnA B 7th floor shifting through new arrivals when two american bitches started some shit about there being a loli corner. They even asked the staff that are they not ashamed to participate in "exploiting children for pornography". Jesus I got so mad, I had to leave
>>
>>17478371

>>
>>17478443
holy shit kek i would have had a chat with them about that. retards

and were they trying to speak in english to the staff members? lmao
>>
>>17478371

These people speak of Akiba as if it was one big block. Plenty of smaller, comfier shops around, you just have to get off the damn main street and hunt for them. You also might want to check other metro areas, some stores off Akiba that surpass it in every way.
>>
>>17478458
nakano broadway is great for stuff that's older than 5 years or so
>>
>>17478454
Chat? I was seething with pure, undiluted rage. Not because they have that opinion, I don't give a shit about that. But if you come to Japan, to Akiba, to TnA of all places then to the porn floor which is clearly indicated, just shut the fuck up and leave if you don't like what you see. Don't bother others about your shitty SJW agenda.

Just remembering made me angry again.
>>
>>17478451
>no more 3dpd/junior idols
Gotta say I'm happy about that.

>>17478458
I know there are still comfy pockets, I'm just being grumpy and nostalgic about the changes I see to Akiba as a whole.
>>
>>17478478
I'm pretty sure they were just there to be all "ironic" and being an outraged SJW type was part of the plot. Even normalfags wisened up and use outrage culture to troll nowadays.
>>
How realistic it is that comiket has to go on a hiatus during the olympics as the big sight won't be available? I read it on twitter and a few blogs but thought it was pure trolling. Then I heard Japanese discussing it on the train while heading to big sight during the morning.
>>
>>17478491
It's not going to be cancelled, but relocated.
>>
>>17478500
That's the point. No one wants it to be relocated outside of Tokyo. And within, I just can't imagine any other space capable of handling comiket.
>>
>>17478506
I'd find it hilariously awesome if they get to move to Budokan, but that's just one of my many delusions.
>>
>>17478514
That was my first idea as well, but Budoukan is probably prohibitively expensive and also much smaller than the combined exhibition halls of TBS.
>>
>>17478500
>>17478506

>>
>>17478529

>>

>>17478541
I'd guess it's too small. You're talking about the building, yeah? And aren't there like... shops, and shit?

They may have to split it up into multiple close by locations or something.
>>
>>17478539
At least it would only be temporary (unless the conspiracy theorists are right and this is some plot to edge comiket out). I'd rather have a split up comiket than none at all.

>>17478541
While I don't know any stats about exhibition facilities at Diver City, I'm pretty sure there's anything that could accommodate a full-scale comiket.

>>17478567
Messe is in Chiba, but it's already out. The Yokohama facilities I know of are much too small.

I wasn't there for very long, but both had a pretty decent selection to dig through, especially for some older stuff. Less people means more comfy browsing and maybe more chances at finding gold. Pricing was especially good for some doujinshi and old movie booklets/pamphlets and posters and two eromanga tanks I bought surprisingly came with TnA exclusive extra-chapters tucked inside (these sell for 300-1k on their own, I've never seen them bundled like that). Having hit pretty much every Mandarake in the Tokyo area, I'd say the ones in Osaka were second only to Nakano, but that's cause the entirety of Nakano Broadway is basically a Mandarake complex and they specialize in older and rarer stuffs for auctions.

Japanese airport security doesn't care. Checked baggage has the risk that someone might search it without your knowledge after it arrives in the United States, but I am fairly sure that that is a negligible risk. Both have to go through customs on your person.

I really don't think it matters, but carry-on is probably slightly safer by dodging that one risk factor.

>>17485915
They won't hound you for a few doujinshi. They won't even bother to check. AFAIK searches are randomly conducted (""""""randomly""""") since they simply don't have the resources to check everyone. Just play it cool and hide it in between a stack of safer shit if you're worried. I checked in two big suitcases with stacks and stacks of loli/shota material inside and didn't get any trouble. I also live in CA though where it's supposedly legal so who knows. Just think that they're looking for bombs and guns and drugs and shit; the last thing they care about is a harmless loser with cartoon porn, unless of course, you live in a state backwards enough that cartoon porn is considered as dangerous as bombs and drugs.
>>
>>17485959

>>17485962
>unless of course, you live in a state backwards enough that cartoon porn is considered as dangerous as bombs and drugs
To be fair Canada does not distinguish drawn and real cp, which is similar to being stopped at the airport under terrorism charges for having a DVD copy of Speed or something.
>>
>>17485973
Yeah, I do know Canada is incredibly backwards with it and there have been cases where people have been detained/imprisoned over 2D material. I think some US states are probably like that too, but most will probably be safe.
>>
>>17485972

It's pretty bad.
https://exhentai.org/s/d19976bba6/1083296-4
The editor leveled it a bit to clean up some of the gunk. Hardly not as bad as LWND's worst, but I'm sure it's ripped from the same shitty site.
>>
>>17485664
You should realize the irony of this statement coming from you. Go make your own scans.
>>
>>17485837
Short answer: you'll be fine.

Long answer: it's extremely unlikely that they'll search you, and even if they do, no one has ever been successfully prosecuted for only 2D loli. The cases you might have heard about all either ended in plea bargains or involved real CP as well. The relevant part of the Protect Act is quite likely to be ruled unconstitutional if it's ever actually tested.
>>
>>17486058
It's not ironic because he's not doing anything at all, he's following what he said.

Never looked it up myself nor done it but from what I gather, you'll have to debind the pages somehow rather than cut them apart and scan them without having the pages cut then splitting them apart through an image editor before numbering the pages correctly. I'll be trying my hand at it when I get home from my japan trip if I don't go to jail for lolicon in my check-in suitcase.

>>17487648
Scan the front and back cover first.

Check the inner pages for page numbers. If you don't find any, take a photo of every page. Some books are a pain to take apart and don't always come out in order.

Take it apart as >>17488225 said. That's what I do. I remember following this as a general tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BP-wRBfObqc

Let the pages sit for a bit on a flat (clean) surface. At least long enough for any glue to dry, but I tend to go do other stuff and leave it for a few hours.

Place a piece of black construction paper on top of each page as you scan it. This will reduce the bleedthrough you get.
(That only works for flatbed scanners; I don't know how you can reduce bleedthrough with a feed scanner)

Scan at 600 DPI, or even higher if you can. It's easier to downscale in photoshop/GIMP, and some doujins have halftone that's so dense you really do need to scan > 600 DPI.

Play around with scanner settings to get nice images. I can't give concrete details here. But most of the stuff can probably be done as well/better in photoshop, so I scan with no leveling or other modifications. Only exception is turning on "descreen" for full-color pages.

Save images as PNG. Or tif, BMP. These are lossless formats. JPG is lossy; every time you edit or resave a JPG, you lose quality. So don't use JPG until the very end, and PNG is usually the better option for greyscale pages.

I can't help with cleaning it up in photoshop since I don't do that part myself. But no matter what it's going to need some cropping at this point, probably also leveling, filters to reduce paper texture, etc.

Nope. That's the sacrifice every uploader goes through. Honestly, just keep your book if it's an issue, we can just wait patiently for the other guy. No need to cause you any trouble.

>Are you attending day 4?
I assume that means scouting Akiba for scraps? The day after, at Melonbooks they had to restrict access to the store and file a queue outside, with Comiket-style "next ten people raise your hands and follow me to be let in" procedure.
Toranoana had some shop assistant with a "最後尾" sign inside at the end of the check-out queue.
I liked it, basically the aftershocks of the Comiket.

Not at all if they don't check your baggage. IF they do, you better start praying. However, the drastic punishments for """CP""" don't apply if they don't deem you likely to have acted on a real impulse or something, so if they think you're not a pedo and just bought the stuff out of curiosity or art or cultural interest or whatever, you might be let off. But if they also find any questionable picture of real children or they for some other reason deem you a pedo, every last loli picture will be treated as CP.
IANAL, though, just once read up about the notorious Canadian loli laws recently.

Carry on, preferably in one of those colorful anime bags they handed out in the West Halls.

Seriously? The luggage, but only to avoid the additional "risk" of having to unpack in the security check when boarding and they wanna check something else in your bag. If you're flying directly from Japan to the US, it's just the risk of embarassment, though, since of course whatever you bought is most likely legal in Japan.
>>
>>17488407
I've noticed that some books have significant white space between the binding and the actual art/contents. For something like that you should be able to get decent results, at least, since the gutter shadow shouldn't be over anything important. You might have trouble getting it flat enough to not get a blurry scan.

Also, some doujins are stable bound. It's possible to remove the staples, scan it, and then re-add the staples. Theoretically, even the same original staples, by hand. My hands are shit so I couldn't even get a single staple through two pages, let alone 4-5. I just use a stapler to re-attach those.

I genuinely have no idea what happens to the book if you try scanning a book without properly debinding it. I'm more concerned with getting high quality results than keeping the books pristine, so I debind them without a single worry.

I found out how convoluted the application process is after the fact, so now I can't apply for c93.

Are they all like this? Is there a decently sized comic market that has an easier application process?

Okay the porn is fine and all but what ever happened to posting music rips here? Did the mods ban it due to copyright issues or something? It just seems really baffling that over the last couple events everyone just moved to a different site.

I don't even mean necessarily talking to them; just following the circles you like should eventually lead you to discover other events they go to, and so which ones you might have an interest in participating in. If you really can't think of any other doujin events you probably need to explore.

Greetings people discussing C92.
I am rather curious, does anyone here have experience with proxy purchasing items from japan, if any sites that offer these services actually goes to the stores or if it is just online purchases.

There is a certain item only available in a few stores which I looking to get a hold of, and so far only White Rabbit Express seems to be an option.

Help a desperate anon in need.
>>
>>17496746
My deputy is online only purchases. I think he sometimes goes to conventions (rarely) but will charge significant markup for buying anything there. He did once manage to pick something up from a store that was sold out online, but I think that was a oneoff thing, not something he does regularly.

Most of them just seem to be regular people doing this as a hobby/side business, so you could just find a few options and ask them. Unless that's what you're already doing.
>>
I got to explore around denden town today, and overall it was more fun than akihabara due to less tourists. There were however more old men hissing at me on the sides of the road.
A bit more of a pain to get to though, since it's off of osaka's main loop.

Jiku-chu in particular was really fun to look around in, they even have an art gallery on the top floor.

I know it's a bummer but it's been happening for a decade or more now man. The reality becomes apparent as soon as you leave the train station. People going to Japan with this grand myth of Akiba in their minds are chasing ghosts and will surely be disappointed. Of course, if you're into anime/manga (especially current stuff) you'll surely find something in the copy/paste "otaku goods" shops, but it's nothing you couldn't already buy online from the comfort of your own home. I think, instead, it's a place you go to with a mission or goal. There are lots of events and limited release goods happening all over if you know where to look. Beyond that though, it's a horrible place to wander around due to all the relentless noise, sweaty bodies, busted maids/cosplayers, tourists, etc.

I would pray that when you do manage to go, the same thing hasn't happened to Nakano Broadway since it seems to be heading in that direction, just at a slower rate. Normalfags really do ruin everything.
>>
>>17502130
Pretty much this. There are still some specialty shops in the back alleys that haven't gone to shit, but you have to know exactly what you're looking for and where to find it.

I've never understood the appeal of VOICEROIDs. Aren't they mostly used for narrating Lets Plays?
>>

Jealous of the yys stuff.
>>
>>17503908
Yukari is both a Vocaloid and a Voiceroid, just her Voiceroid bank gets used a lot more these days cause of all of the Let's Plays running around.

I enjoy watching them, though. Since they're scripted they're usually more like a cross between a comedy skit and an actual Let's Play. I got sucked into it after watching a couple Voiceroid skits featured next to a bunch of stupid MMD comedy videos that I always liked.

Touhou, primarily. Games, music, whatever, just so long as it's Touhou related. It would be cool to meet some artists as well I guess. I'm also a consumerist pig, so I'd pick up some consumer stuff as well if available.

The Olympics are stealing pretty much the only convention center in Japan that can hold a Comiket-sized event. It's not clear what will happen going forwards.

That said, there's definitely enough at Comiket to fill up your time if you're truly interested in browsing random crap even if you have no interest in porn.

Has anyone ever gotten a search by US customs for declaring proper value coming back from a Comiket?
I used GE for the first time and and got both my suitcases searched and had attempts to get commercial smuggling charges put on my record.

>>
>>17528029
because greed. there's a reason kickstarter/indiegogo and patreon are known more for being scams than anything else.

Take Kickstarter/Indiegogo for example, the original idea was community funding for a common goal, people could secure funding for their projects if they were interesting enough and in return they would give back in the form of donator tiers rewards. It ended up being a clusterfuck of misuse of funds (like that one project where one of the guys took all the money and spent it on hookers and alcohol, no joke), vaporwave bullshit (too many to list, but as an example there was that one project that offered to make a "water breather" that somehow uses magic to bypass physics and literally separate the hydrogen and oxygen molecules so you could breathe underwater all in the size of a tiny scuba diving accessory) or the project mysteriously going up in smoke (no refunds suckers!) and dropped, etc etc. They've cracked down hard on it hard though, apparenty you need to post periodic updates with actual evidence of progress or whatever, but it's still full of bullshit which is why legit "success stories" are rare and worth mentioning

Patreon on the other hand ends up being a circlejerk where the guy putting up the patreon has to obey whatever his kind "patreons" request or they'll pull out funding. On the OTHER hand though, the reverse also happens too, they get lazy as fuck since now they have guaranteed monthly checks in the range of thousands for doing fuck all like drawing a piece of porn every once in a while and the rest of the month is spent scratching their balls

At the end of the day, it's just idiots willing to throw money away and the smart ones take advantage to get really fat paychecks, and the most astounding thing is that the money isn't taxed at all! Apparently the IRS is investigating Patreon for this bullshit, but we'll see how that goes. It's not all bad though, you just really have to be careful who you give money to so you don't get burned.
