I will say this is definitely one of the best Reimus ZUN has ever drawn. Expressive, cute, smug. She looks really good.

The art style in particular looks a little better than how plastic-y and stiff everyone looked in LOLK but I still preferred his traditional drawings.

I wanted ZUN to recycle the forgotten seasonal 2hus like the Akis in the extra and ending with a Yuuka fight, not recycle the bosses already in the game.

Regardless, people wouldn't be inclined to complain about the lack of oldhus as much if they didn't circlejerk around the same few safe options (SDM, Protagonists, etc) in spinoffs, which the fangames already accomplish for them.

You can have these characters return and still have a game filled with newhus. As someone who wanted the seasonal characters in, I would have been disappointed if there weren't a bunch of newhus too, I think it's almost unanimous that part of the excitement of a new Touhou game is seeing new characters.

However having Stage 6 and Extra re-use the same characters without introducing someone new is the worst of both worlds.

The cast seems a bit the polar opposite from LoLK. The LoLK cast all felt gimmick'ish and not really fitting in the Touhou setting.
While this game they all feel extremely bland and forgettable.

Yeah, point taken. But on the flip side, while I am disappointed Final and Extra boss is one and the same I do like the new design ZUN's got on it. Girl has a whole new set and theme behind her spell cards as an Extra boss and the stage itself has some new mechanics to it.

While I'm disappointed she's both 6 and Extra, I honestly like the character a lot, I think she looks cool and I like that she goes "serious mode" and comes back for Extra. I just think it was much more well done in LOLK where Hecatia's the real extra boss but Junko returns to fuck you up too. Yes, ZUN likes to carry a theme between Stage 6 and his final bosses now, he's done it in a few games. It doesn't make it any less of a song. Sea is still a beautiful song, much like Little Princess is fantastic and better than Exaggerated Castle in DDC.
