Seems more like he's gotten lazier on the art front in the last decade in favour of more writing. Just look at the endings, they're no longer coloured and you'll only get 1 CG per ending compared to the older games where you got several per ending.

These drawings are so pretty, I guess when you're at the bottom you put more effort and desire, PCB had two extra bosses, remember all the content that IN had? Two final bosses, two alt bosses in stage 4, a lot of last word spells unlocked like "achievments", shot types/characters to unlock, PoFV has the biggest number of playable characters, with lots of possible dialogues and every ending in FULL COLOR. Maybe ZUN got lazier recently because Touhou is so massively popular since a long time ago, he doesn't feels like giving his 105%.

I'm sure having a wife and kids takes a lot of time off of his hands, but I too wish he'd spice things up a bit more in his newer games. He's been using the same formula for too long, it'd be nice to see something fresh and different for once. His composing style has also gotten a bit stale, I'd like for him to experiment a bit more in that regard. Getting tired of the weird techno kind of themes he's been using lately.

Nobody is even forcing you to do side content, it's just there to increase the replay factor and number of things that you can do to entertain yourself with, Last Words were a cute incentive to play the game in different ways, PoFV having characters that played the same? Guess what, it's danmaku, obviously shot-types, movement speed and similars are the most important differences, besides you're not even considering the number of portraits that he did for the game, which is way more than any other (not including tasofro spin-offs), you're excusing less content with mental gymnastics.

Who the hell are you quoting? I don't think anybody would argue against having more content. However, "play the same game again except with a different final boss!", "unlock the same shottype you already played with but now you don't have hold focus!" or the like, are not more content, they're padding.

Or hell, maybe it is good content. In which case, we can safely say HSiFS has all of the content because it lets you play it more than once too.

Kind of, but the first card is always consistent, as are the only two non-spell patterns. Still one of the best Stage 4 boss fights in the series, mind you.

Actually, differences in scope, speed, special characteristics and level 1 specials meant that many characters have dramatically different playstyles. You certainly wouldn't play, say, Komachi and Cirno in the same way, they have completely different game plans. Just the thoughts of someone who played a lot of PoFV netplay for a while.

People who proclaim that EoSD is da bestest game ever are idiots, of course, but don't pretend that the old games have no merit.

I might as well respond to you as well, since I don't really agree with you either.
I think ZUN puts a ton of effort into all of his projects, and you can see things unique to each game as a result of that effort. For instance, Overdrives in TD, unique dialogue paths for each character in DDC, an entire new mode for LoLK, and a final boss card that changes depending on your shot (and an extra with entirely new mechanics not found in the main game) in HSiFS. And that's not mentioning somewhat older games, like SA with its staggering 6 unique dialogue paths, one for each shot.
If ZUN wasn't putting in effort, you'd see him recycle things, and he'd probably just push out an "IN 2" or something. Sure, the fans might be happy, but it'd really just be more of a concept he's already explored.
He cares enough to differentiate each game from one another, and I have a lot of respect for him because of it.

Comparing Okina to EX Okina is like comparing Alice to EX Alice. Aside from the fact that they're the same character, they don't have enough in common to actually say they're copied over. Hell, Okina has entirely new art just for Extra.

But, you know, it's ok when Yukari's fight reuses pretty much every card from Ran's fight, just tweaked a bit.
Mind you, PCB is my favorite 2hu game. I'm just not a blind nostalgiafag as well.
