Comiket will start in around a month. Any of you got plans for it already? Anything specific you are looking forward to?

Currently making up a list of otokonoko/trap oriented circles I will be going for.
>>
>>17293430
Is it smart to attend Comiket when you don't know Japanese?
>>
>>17293442
I think it depends on your goals/mindset. Yes, it certainly feels intimidating when you think about not being able to understand any of the written/spoken information, though you could look up some guides or ask around in this thread to somewhat compensate for that.

If you do not feel strongly inconvenienced by that and are more about the goods and the community feeling, it is in my opinion worth the experience. If possible, you may want to go there with a friend or family member who are either into this themselves or are up to this out-of-the-ordinary experience. I myself went there with my sister last comiket and overall it was very enjoyable for us.
>>
>>17293539
Cool, but I was asking about you. I can read Japanese fine.

Also cool that you went with your sister. Did you compare doujinshi at the end of the day and then fuck?
>>
>>17293442
The japanese to say what you want is rather easy. More important is being prepared for the intense heat at summer comiket.
>>
>>17293615
>Cool, but I was asking about you. I can read Japanese fine.
Ah I see. No, I am only able to read kana, couple kanji and very simple sentence structures. It was just sufficient enough to make simple conversations with the circle artists. They really like the idea that there are foreigners who are enjoying otokonoko stuff. While it felt limiting in the overall experience, it was still an enjoyable one.

>Also cool that you went with your sister. Did you compare doujinshi at the end of the day and then fuck?
Haha, nah. She actually is not into doujinshi stuff, but she was up for the Comiket experience, such as arriving with the first train. It certainly is something else seeing how well the massive amount of people were managed when lining up. She also offered to get some doujinshi for me.
>>
>>17293826
So your sister knows your preference for girls (male)?
>>
>>17293834
Yup and also about all the other seemingly weird fetishes I have.
>>
i'll just order ke-ta's new work as soon as it gets on yahoo/mandarake and then see what anons recommend
>>
>>17293430
Please remember, spoiler tags are for spoilers. They are not surprise boxes.
>>
>>17293864
Gotcha. Just a habit because of seeing other people doing it.
>>
>>17293846
So why not fuck?
>>
No, I do not know what tomorrow holds.
>>
>>17293872
I guess because knowing about my preferences does not necessarily imply the desire for experiencing it. The type of relationship we have is simply that of where we can openly talk about those things.
>>
>>17293674
Anything you found particularly helpful other than what is usually recommended? So far, I would have prepared water, towel, sun-protection and light clothing.
>>
I'll be there with my company, on an exhibitor or industry pass or whatever the equivalent is, which I think means I get to skip the lines. I don't actually have a ton of plans for Comiket though, I'll mostly be on the lookout for good Kemono Friends stuff since that's my obsession lately.
>>
I'll be in Tokyo for all of it, but I might only go for one day since it's also my first time in Japan and I want to get some sight seeing done as well.
>>
No. But I was there for C91.

Any proxy services you guys would reccomend?
>>
What's the trade-off on skipping summer and going to winter instead?
>>
>>17295818
The most significant one would be not dealing with the intense summer heat, while the winter coldness is not that harsh in my opinion (coming from the southern part of Germany). If you are in for the exclusive goodies, you will of course miss out on them or, if you really wanted, would have to use other means to aquire them.
>>
>>17293947
So you told her yours, but what about her?
What's she into?
>>
>>17294066
I sadly have only been to reitaisai so far. But even then it was pretty hot. But we didn't had to wait long since it's much fewer people.
I guess if you don't have anything to buy on the first day you can go in later just to get a feel for it. You pretty much need things to cool you down, hydrate yourself, combat the intense smell of 100.000+ otaku and plan well ahead. You need to wait to get anywhere, even the toilet. Apparently it's crowded to dangerous levels, if you drop something it's gone. I hope you are taller than the average japanese.
What I have heard people recommend is freezing a bottle of water and wrapping it in a towel so you can use the towel to cool yourself. A hat that protects your neck and ears should be obvious. Scented wipes you can breath should the smell overwhelm you. Since you will also loose minerals through sweating maybe having some sports drink would be good. Oh and prepare small change beforehand. A doujin costs around 500 yen and an album around 1000. If you are early they might not have enough cash to accept a 10000 bill, it also slows down the line.
When I was there for reitaisai I had a hotel that was like 300m away from the big sight, so I had no issue with the trains, but they will get super crowded, so you need to come a bit earlier to even get the one you want. And it's probably not a good idea to arrive many hours before the venue opens. You will not be able to get everything you want, prepare yourself for that and expect it. Use the map in the catalogue to plan which circles you want to check out.
>>
>>17296947
Sounds solid, thank you for the thorough explanation anon.
>>
The third day is Touhou day, right? What time does it open?
>>
>>17297583
Not necessarily, I think 2hu was day 1 the last 2 times.
>>
>>17297637
I need to know so I can make a count down clock to touhou 16
>>
>>17294519
You could do whatever you want in comiket if you have such a pass.

Me a normal person just wait till opening
>>
>>17296693
>The most significant one would be not dealing with the intense summer heat, while the winter coldness is not that harsh in my opinion (coming from the southern part of Germany).
My doughy Canadian body melts at 25 C so this is good to know. Thanks
>>
I'm from South Florida and have dealt with shitty humidity my whole life. Is Comiket in the summer comparable? I feel like the people who make a big deal out of it are people who don't usually deal with humidity to begin with.

>>17293430
I'm going to pick up some games, and doujins for friends. C91 was fun, and I'm coming back to Japan pretty much only for C92.
>>

Touhou day will be on the first day according to the web catalog. Comiket starts at 10am.

I'll be in Japan during C92, I don't have the will for an event like Comiket. I'll just scour the shops in Tokyo after the event and grab more than enough donjons to fill my luggage. It's not difficult when you collect both music and doujinshi.

I know "depends how much you spend" apply's but generally what's the costs at comiket compared to getting stuff elsewhere.

First time going and basically want to plan my budget accordingly without being blown away by prices for things.
>>
Question for you guys: I'm from the US and am I going to NatsuKet in a few weeks. What's the best way to bring my haul home? Nothing I'm buying is illegal, but it'll still be awkward as fuck if I carry a bag of doujins and customs wants to look at it or whatever. Should I ship my stuff home instead, check it in my luggage, or just carry it on and deal with the embarrassment if they look at my stuff?
>>
>>17293430
I'm not ready.... What little money I have left is going towards a game coming out later this month ;_;
>>
How long does it take for the huge lines to start moving when doors open? If I show up at 10am should I expect to not be in the building until after 12? First time this year and I'm going to CG and WUG lives the same weekend so trying to see how much time I can actually spend at comiket
>>
>>17309744
I did not take the time to compare the prices thoroughly, but you should be able to save at least 20% if you buy them from Comiket.

Doujinshi were usually 500 Yen vs ~600-800 Yen (toranoana, melonbooks). Also, there was this dakimakura which I got for 10.000 Yen vs 13.000 Yen, the latter being the price of the booth shop.

>>17310933
According to the guide below, it would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes after the event starts, assuming you lined up at 9:30am.

https://theotareport.wordpress.com/2013/12/01/comic-market/#The_morning_line
>>
>>17309744
that's a silly question. if you can afford visiting comiket from some other country then you can certainly afford buying stuff there. 30000 yen should be more than enough.

I wasn't planning to go since I went in winter this year, but I'm also reconsidering because I wanted to see what KF stuff Japan's putting out.

Have you gone to any of the Japarikets?
>>
I'd like to go to Comiket one day, but I do have a question.
Is it common to see people camping out the night before? A few days before? Do you have to camp out to get in decently early?
>>
>>17318277
Oh man, I wish I could've gone. I live in the US and this will be my first trip to Japan since '09. If my new job plays out well I'll probably go back pretty regularly from now on, but Japariket falls at the wrong time so I probably won't be able to go to any of them in the future either. (My company is involved with WF, Comiket, and some series-specific smaller events, but none of them are at the right time of year to make it to Japariket and I think it also conflicts with US/international convention obligations.)

Waiting overnight is not permitted. A lot of people take the first train, so if you're able to beat that I think you're basically home free. (When I was there, I entertained the notion of walking two hours from my hotel, but in the end I slept in.)
>>
>>17319779
While staying overnight is not allowed people still do it espically on day 3. People just say it is your responsible if you get caught and shit
>>
I still have to make my dream true and go to the comiket, the best place in the world, and fap to it to have a plenty relationship with it, is such a wonderfull thing
>>
I wish I could go there but going to Japan isn't cheap and I don' t have a job. At least, I went to summer Reitaisai last year.
>>
>>17302690
It depends on what you're talking about. That is just the line to get into Big Sight, so if you want to be at the very front then you're looking at staying there overnight. The doors open at 10AM so you can arrive 10 minutes before that, but you're going to be behind like 50,000 people or something no matter which entrance you go for.

Once you get in you're looking at smaller (several hundred-a few thousand) lines for the bigger circles and some corporate booths. If you are just going to fart around and look at stuff then you can avoid the bigger lines, but if you want the popular stuff then you're going to spend about 80% of your time at the event in line and the other 20% sprinting to the next line.
>>
>>17309744
Best advice I can give you is take as much as you can reasonably justify spending. Better to prepare more than you really need in case you find a bunch of stuff you didn't really expect to see there. I've gone from spending a few hundred US across all three days to over $2000 per event.
>>
My only Comiket has been 90 but I really enjoyed the experience. The best thing was just exploring the music booths and seeing so many artists like RoughSketch and Shibayan in person. Just an overall nearly religious experience, everyone with any related hobbies should go, and there's stuff for everyone. The lines are also impressively efficient. Didn't even take an hour to get into the building behind a quarter million people.

Check out the store downstairs behind the kebab shop across from one of the Maid Dreamin's in Akiba. Really affordable resale stuff right after Comiket if you miss Touhou shit or music. Owner is really cool and always gets the good shit.

Money can buy a lot of things from Comiket by way of internet shopping these days, but a chance to meet your favorite artists isn't one of them. Are you allowed to bullshit, take a photo etc. with the boothpeople or are you encouraged to buy your shit and leave right away?

As long as you can KY a bit everyone's happy to talk to fans. Obviously you should wait until shopping traffic dies down, especially if there's a queue. I get a lot more conversation at the music booths just because its a little easier to talk about, and everyone loves hearing about their work being popular among the California crowd.
>>
I am interested in going to Comiket this summer. How early should I arrive at the event? I hear people get there the night before... Isn't there a catalog I've got to purchase to attend?

>>17336397
Dunno man, the arguments that arise from these questions tend to always go back and forth. If the doujinshi stack size should be anything to go by, then feel free to take my answer as a definitive 'yes'. However, as I currently see it, if the worst thing that comes from liking otokonoko is getting the gay label from some random anons, there is nothing anybody needs to be concerned about.
>>
what's xration up to this C?

I expect one new doujin and one of those misc series one-pages
>>
>>17336377
>How early should I arrive at the end?
Depends on your goals. If you want to go for the popular/exclusive items, the earlier the better. Better inform yourself about the booth locations beforehand so you can go straight for them. Also, embrace the thought that you may not be able to get everything you want, so prioritize. When you attend the event, it is quite possible that there will be goods sold that catches your eye for which you did not or could not plan ahead, so either set aside some time and money or stick to your plan.

>Isn't there a catalog I've got to purchase to attend?
No such thing is required to attend.

Also, have a look at this guide that can help you form your plan.

Any anons going early for day 3? I'll be attending day 3 by myself, but it's always nicer with company if anyone wants to meet up for the line.
>>
>>17340694
I'm thinking about it. I might have time off that day.

I might go with a friend who's here on vacation, also. My main concern over whether or not to go is the question of there being anything I'd like to see on day 3 or not.
>>
>>17340721
It really depends, day 3 is mostly FGO/iM@S/LL but I'm just going for a few artists I like.

If you and your friend are down to meet up for the line just send me a DM on twitter: https://twitter.com/paxiti would certainly make waiting in line a lot more enjoyable.

>>17340399
Couple of indicators:
- They have a "wall" table, meaning a spot positioned right up on the wall in the hall they're occupying.
- Their past goods are incredibly expensive/hard to find online or in shops.
- They are offering some pretty expensive items (especially event exclusives).
- They have items already being listed on the bigger online stores (Melonbooks, Toranoana, etc).
- They are associated with mainstream titles (actual production studio, etc).

You really have to keep up with each circle's website/twitter/whatever method they're using to communicate information with their followers. Some tables will have a single file line that seems to take forever while another group will have one that is 4 people wide and moves quickly. If their table is located in one of the large open gate areas along the outer perimeter of the hall (circled in image) then their line goes directly out of the facility. These are going to be the most popular circles and they have the lines that are hundreds/thousands of people long.

You can pick it up at any of the following locations:

I remember reading somewhere online (4chan?) about some poster who claimed to have picked up cosplayers at Comiket by being a real smooth operator, but I'm pretty sure this was bullshit, and 99.9999% of your interaction with females will either consist of これとこれ下さい and maybe 写真を撮ってもらっていいですか if you're feeling like real hot shit. I'm happy with just one or two really good doujins, I don't care about the rest. But the question is if there is any chance to get something good, because it seems there is a lot of people who stay all night.

I have the map memorized, I know where to go and I'll be there the second day to recognize the place.

How do you guys go about finding what you want in the catalog?
I had a look at the web catalog, and the number of booths are far to many to go through them all.
Plus, when you click on a booth, there is pretty much no explanation about the work at all - just a picture.
There must be some way to figure out what you want and where it is without scanning through the whole
catalog.
>>
>>17353794
try #c92 at twitter? Still a lot to go through but easier overall
>>
>>17352847
Yes. If you go by the first train there'll be tons of people before you, but you'll be able to pick up stuff from 1 or 2 popular circles.
>>
>>17352037
No, you EOP.
>>
>>17353794
>There must be some way to figure out what you want and where it is without scanning through the whole catalogue.
The web catalogue's main purpose is to figure out where the booths selling the stuff are. If you have absolutely no ideawhat circles to look for, I would recommend heading over to exhentai and searching up your choice of fetish/subject+ c90. This should give more or less give you a list of artists to look for. If you find a circle you like on the catalogue, you can also use the map function to check out nearby booths, which might have similar content

>>
>>17353794
The purpose of the catalog isn't to provide you with enough information to decide on which circles you're interested in - that should be a given at this point. The catalog is there to simply tell you where each circle will be located each day. To be honest most circles will advertise this information via their homepage and/or twitter account, so a lot of the more experienced people don't even bother with the catalog.

If you don't have at least a rough list of specific circles you're interested in then you need to spend the next 10 or so days getting that together. Otherwise you're going to waste all of your time wandering around while all the best items are selling out. If you're gong to window-shop or just browse then again you're probably going to be disappointed since everything exceptional is going to be gone in the first 2 hours, and the entire time leading up to that point is going to be a miserable experience as you try to squeeze through the ridiculous sea of people in the oppressive heat.
>>
>>17354537
It isn't as comfy as you think it is. The first half of each day is a fucking madhouse, at least along the perimeter where all the top circles are. You may be able to wander around the niche areas or something like that but unless that stuff is your thing then you aren't going to see anything worth your time. The corporate area is just a solid block of people until the place is almost closed or all the top booths sell out of the stuff people care about.
>>
>>17354505
Anon, I usually go alone. I usually get the shit I want and then wander around the entire area looking at random cool shit and check out the cosplay area.

Then just head over to the big saw when you're done and usually there are a few /jp/ers waiting for the meetup already and we'll usually go to Kin no Kura or someshit.
>>
If you can read Japanese, you really should buy the catalog at least once. It's full of useful information for newbies.

Even if not, just be aware:
>GET. A. GODDAMN. PASMO/SUICA. (and make sure you have enough of a balance to get home)
>You will not get into a bathroom
>Your cellphone/tablet -will- die after extensive googling, translating, GPS, and LINE usage all day + night (if you go to meetup). Bring an external battery.
>Have a physical map of the booths + highlighted ones you're interested in (or get the app, but paper is always reliable). Printing can be done at any convenience store, just do it the night before.

I never found this to be the case. What's exceptional is subjective anyway.

If something is really that popular the circle should print extra copies in advance unless they hate money or something.

Connections should be fine, if you're staying there for a day or more you have the risk of having your luggage inspected and getting fugged (pornography is illegal in China).

If you are that paranoid you can always send all your porn with RSAL and declare everything as personal effects but if you are only switching planes you should be fine.

My return trip from c91 was to Dubai so I had to send all my doujins with RSAL, it costed me 13k yen to send 110+ books to europe, choose your connections wisely every time you book your tickets to Japan, even if they are extremely cheap, now that I think about it if they are super cheap an extra 100 dollars on sending your porn might not be a bad idea.
>>
>>17373124
They're just looking for illegal shit. Your porn just looks like stacks of paper on an x-ray and unless they ask to look inside they're none the wiser. Just remember these judgement calls are made by people with a high school education on average. They're not familiar with the material nor do they care. If it even looks remotely illegal there's no guarantee they won't follow procedures.

It collapses down to a cylinder form about the size of a small umbrella, comes with a small carrying bag, and weighs about 0.5lbs. It easily fits in any bag you may be lugging around or (in my case) fits perfectly in one of the side containers of my backpack.

That being said, I only really use it during the 4-5 hour wait at the beginning of the day, and maybe once or twice in one of the longer/slower corporate lines.

Depends on the artist, but generally they turn you down if they are really popular. The moment one person gets a photo then the entire crowd around them is going to ask for one too. In some cases you'll see an artist take a picture or offer their books to somebody, but this is usually another artist or somebody they already know on a personal level.

Why the fuck not? that's around 10000 circles per day, and the listing also contains circles that didn't get a booth

You should really check yourself before you wreck yourself senpai
>>
>>17390755

Haven't ever visited Comiket but hoping to do so one day, with so many people visiting and so many circles offering their wares, is it possible to take a look at everything that's being sold there or do you only have a realistic chance to see a fraction of what's there?
>>
>>17390839
Latter. That is why everyone tells you plan your visit and stick to the plan, don't underestimate Comiket. Save sightseeing for much later when everything has calmed down.
>>
>>17390839
Depends how well you Japanese is. If you are looking for specific things you can walk and see everything. But not in depth
>>
>>17390363
>planning a trip to Japan
>not researching things to do
>>
>>17390370
>pixiv and twitter never show everything
if you don't follow any artists or if you never bothered to pick a favorite just go to toranoana twirl around and grab what's closest. any artist worth their salt puts their booth info on twitter.
>>
>>17390839
>is it possible to take a look at everything that's being sold there or do you only have a realistic chance to see a fraction of what's there?
If you intend on combing the booths in hopes of something you'd like you're going to have a bad time.
>>
>>17391541
Does it count if my plan is to take random trains to different suburbs and just ramble through Tokyo for two weeks
>>
>>17391568
If you enjoy "flagship franchises" you will almost certainly find a ton of stuff you like just by looking around. After visiting the circles I had on my lists, I window shopped for characters and series I had a passing interest and found a lot of stuff I liked.
>>
>>17391571
Be sure to buy a railpass! You're sure to be Japanese by the time you leave!
>>
>>17391888
I don't actually want to be Japanese, I only enjoy their trains, mountains, castles and temples/shrines

Also it's too bad I can't go on the Nozomi with the pass since I want to spend a few days in Fukuoka and Kagoshima
>>
>>17392597
> too bad I can't go on the Nozomi with the pass since I want to spend a few days in Fukuoka and Kagoshima

because the Nozomi is the only way to get there, right?
>>
>>17392658
My understanding from the timetables is that it's the fastest ride
>>
>>17392870
You can take the Hikari Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Kobe, then switch to the Sakura Shinkansen to Hakata which is in Fukuoka. From there you can take either local lines or the Kyushu Shinkansen to get to Kagoshima. The trip from Tokyo to Fukuoka via the Nozomi line is about 5 hours, while the Hikari-Sakura route is about 40 minutes longer. The price difference is a few hundred yen, so we're talking about a few dollars at most.

Let's deport them back to Gaijinpot or something.

When you're in Japan be careful around 高齢者.

Alright, maybe it's related to old age. But I don't really see old people running around setting others on fire because they got dementia from 過労 that often. So I don't think there's any reason to fear them. That's basically just a badly titled news article.

I just checked there out of curiosity, looks like an absolute cesspool.
>>
>>17394196
Overall any subreddit related to living in Japan is shitty cesspool.

You generally have two type of people there.

Clueless retards, clueless in the purest sense. Like people who want to live in Japan and have no idea about the visa requirements. Or people who don't know how to change their lightbulb.

And then /r/japancirclejerk style fedora-tipping jaded know-it-alls.

I probably won't find old shit from C61 on the internet, will I? Trying to find 鍵METAL KEY of Akihito. I've found a torrent that lets me download it 96.2% which is 9/10 songs. Yeah it's a fucking 2001 album. It was under AKHT-0001 and KDMC-0042. I've tried so much now. Should I just give up?
>>
>>17395443
Some are just lost to time forever. Imagine there must copies deep in some boxes in some otaku's closet in Osaka, likely to be tossed out.

I wish I could just find pictures of 90's or 80s comikets. Even early 2000's would be neat.
>>
>>17395672
That's pretty sad. I might as well try scavenge for real copies or ask Akihito if I can buy all his stuff because damn I love it
>>
>>17395690
You might find luck in stores like Mandarake? The one in Akiba if I remember is massive and has floors of doujinshit.
>>
>>17395701
I was in one of them and it didn't really have much of what I recognized. I've only been to Japan with my college class, though. It's just music albums I'm after, anyway.
>>
Will Komaku Juushoku or Bkub participate at this Comiket or do I have to wait until autumn Reitaisai? Is there any page with a list of the majority of circles participating at Comiket?
>>
>>17395443
I don't think most of the internet community even existed during the millenium except in Usenet/mIRC chatrooms and closed forums, that is practically pre-search engine era.

Even Google had only been around for like a year and back then and even Yahoo was nothing more than a Active Directory listings.
>>
>>17395962
Yeah the album I'm looking for looks to have gotten a redistribution via "Key Doujin Music Collection" / KDMC. From where or how, I don't know.
Everything I've looked at leads to dead places. All torrents / eMule stuff I've found are pretty dead.
I'm like the only person alive who likes to collect stuff from my favorite artists who uses the internet for such. I should probably get my ass to Japan sometime soon so I can investigate a bit.

All we can do is hope that anon who bought a second copy of Adrastea who through a series of events was told by Shibayan that he's working on a new electric album wasn't lying. I have a feeling that if he is making something like that, it'll be released next year.
