Do the right shoes make a difference for DDR? I always play without shoes in my socks because there's so much traction with shoes that moving is slow as fuck with. That's aside from all the pad-tearing issues you get if you have a soft pad.

try playing with socks in an arcade and see how much your feet hurt and how hard it is to stay standing up.

yes, shoes make a difference.
>>
>>17272488
I always used to play without shoes back when I played 10 years ago on a machine. Granted, I wasn't that good back then, but I didn't have too many problems.
>>
>>17272495
if you could play anything harder than oldscale 9s in socks, on old cabs with unmodded, uncountersunk pads, then good for you.

another reason to wear shoes is that round 1 and dave and buster's have rules against playing without shoes.

Too high for my taste, but if you lower it you'll notice how the falling speed make the notes a blurry mess. That's when using lane cover helps.
Also, black magic happens and you improve your accuracy.

hello /jp/!

I've been a IIDX and Pop'n player since around 2014. I took about 9 months off because i was NEET and couldnt frequent the arcade anymore, but about 2 months ago i got back in and i feel like im finally starting to progress again. I can clear easier 10s in IIDX and am starting to develop the endurance required for 43s in pop'n. A few questions-

My hand positioning in IIDX has always been the double prong type with right index on 4 and no thumbs, though ive started to incorporate my right thumb on 3 and 5 for harder scales, but everyone has told me that the correct way to play uses your left thumb too. Will I be able to progress into basic 10s using this playstyle? I admit to mashing quite a bit on scales, which I know is bad.

Also, for Pop'n- I am a tall person about 6ft5 and i have to bend my knees quite a bit when I play. But I've noticed someone who plays much harder levels than me, doesn't get quite as low as me and uses the wrist's motion in angles. What I mean is bending the hand slightly during scales-- I tend to do scales with my hands flat on top and it seems this takes more effort than if I were to start bending my wrists left and right. I'm willing to adapt and continue progress but I can't help but wonder if there are ways I can play better with more minimal movements.
>>
>>17278862
How the fuck are you passing 10s without using either thumb? Are you a wizard or just unnaturally good at this game?

There are various hand positions for IIDX (assuming this is 1P, of course): the most common are as follows, where 1 is thumb, 5 is pinky, L and R and left/right hands.

Taka S: S1234567 covered by L5 L1 L2 L1 (again, with side thumb to cover 1+3 chords) R2 R1 R3/R4 R4/R5 (last two fingers are personal preference)

3:5: Taka S but 3 covered by R1

1048 god pinky: S1234567 covered by L5 L1 L3 L2 R2 R1 R3/R4 R4/R5 - can be static if your pinky is long enough otherwise it'll probably end up turning into Taka S when scratching

1048 wrist aka cheating: as above, but with wrist on scratch, static

Dolce: S1234567 covered by L5 L3 L2 L1 R2 R1 R3/R4 R4/R5 (no, dolce does not actually play this way)

Most people who do not play 1048 will transition between the other styles depending on the pattern. There's other stuff outside this guide like one-handing (extremely dense scratches) or doing more freeform stuff during certain patterns but just feel it out.

Regarding the height of the cab it is no secret that the Japanese are short, so just powerstance by spreading your legs really wide at the cab.
>>
>>17278958
for me the way i play normally is
S1234567 covered by L4 L3 L2 R2 R2(or R1 for scales) R3 R4 (so essentially i avoid using pinkies or thumbs but can switch depending on pattern. This means i have to swipe with R2 from button 4 to 5, but i incorporate my R1 and R5 depending on the pattern, for a button 4 and 7 chord i hit 7 using R5 and 4 using R2. I'm good at scratch heavy patterns but the biggest issue for me in 10s are the rapid chords while scratching. Essentially its like 'prongs' because if you hold your left and right hand's 234 with middle fingers forwards, it feels like an alien prong
>>
>>17279037
oh no, you play claw, the memeist of meme playstyles. Don't do that.
>>
>>17279037
The claw is bad in Monster Hunter and bad here too
>>
>>17279065
>>17279071
saying to stop isnt really something you easily do after 3 years of playing. I had the opportunity to relearn a better hand positioning years ago. I just want to know if I'll ever progress any further bc ive cleared some easy 10s normally recently and feel the scales will just continue to kill me
>>
>>17279078
Keeping this hand position will severely dampen your efforts to git gud and likely make it extremely difficult if not impossible to deal with scratch chords ever, although this is not set in stone. There's some Korean guy who plays 12 with his fingers basically flat on the keys with practically his palms on 1357 and his fingers on 246 and he gets fantastic scores, and I swear I've seen a guy play with R2 on 3. These are exceptions to the rule, however.
>>
>>17279087
the biggest issues I have is fast scales that include scratching. mostly when the scale is gong away from TT such as 1234567. one it gets to 4 i can handle it with my right hand, but if it incorporates chords and scales in a fast way like the spH10 Shooting Fireball chart-- i cant hit the scratch heavy patterns in that chart, but can hit everything else without scratch. I'm sure that's the general purpose of 10s in general is to learn how to include TT into dense patterns but im mostly struggling with that atm.

I want to pick up a djdao controller. Are the 50g omron switches worth it? I'm trying to decide if it would be better to get the FP7 with omron switches or settle for the FPS.

Is the FP7 or FPS objectively better, or is it just preference in compact size?

Also, on the US storehouse i saw there was no button customization. Can you change LED colors at all or are you just stuck with red and blue (not that it's an issue)?
>>
>>17286252
>Are the 50g omron switches worth it?
Yes. Get them. They last much longer than Honeywells and they feel much better to play on.
>>
>>17286252
No major differences between the FP7 and FPS besides the turntable being smaller on the FPS and no support for underlays (I think?)
>>

FPS is more compact and has a smaller TT. If you want to carry around yours (or if you don't have much space), go with FPS.
FP7 has a bigger TT and has more options for custom plates.

Not really. I've got an aimtrak for these widescreen games, and it's just about passable with an onscreen cursor, although it'll occasionally get confused by a reflection or a window if you don't have blackout curtains.

The main issue I have with it is the distance you have to be. I've got a small room, and I literally have to push my monitor against the wall and sit 5 feet away for it to work.

I just tried out MaiMai Murasaki from the local arcades here.

Holy fucksticks, it's like you need three hands just to even pass songs on Expert.

Now my palm is red as fuck.

It's the one game where wearing gloves isn't cheating. Any maimai player worth their salt has their own pair. Like how Drummania players bring their own sticks.

>>

Absolutely. Running shoes don't make good DDR shoes because of the cushioning at the heel and the tip being lifted in most cases. Go for some white, flat footed casual sneakers for the best dance game shoe wear.
>>
I think I forgot how to properly play. Right hand getting uncomfortable after playing,
Just as I'm starting to soar on my previous scores and being able to clear higher 11s this starts happening. I'd rather backpedal a little and play worse and fix my posture again.

I think my right hand is making a claw shape to press the buttons and my wrists are bending sideways. So I'm feeling a lot of pressure on the carpal area and the area between thumb and index. So annoying.

Hello sorry to bother but im looking for help here about jpop/ anime / weeb music etc.

When i was a kid i got charmed by an anime OP that had cute girls, action scenes and cute female vocals with delicate voice and such.

It grew on me and have been into this since that time time, i would like to know, i know the japanese havea formula that panders to people that like cute girls doing cute singing, anime girls singing or dancing, idols and that sort of stuff and i really like that sort of stuff, more now that im an adult and i took more interest in woman than when i was a kid so my sexual desires and hormones mixes up with this music.

So i would like to know, what kind of people are the people like myself? and i bet you too, also otaku market in japan and such that are attracted to this kind of music and formula made by the japanese, they knew this kidn of content pandered well to some kind of people but what kind of people are they? and i don't mean otaku/weebs/etc i anna know a more explained scientifically accurate response as to what kind of people this music panders too?

Sorry, i had to ask because i wanna know in what kind of people im in and why i do like these kind of music so much.

And to add i thought that was why this kind of content exists?

Combination of cute/moe/anime singing +sexual content? isn't that the core of all? and anyway back to my first question, to what kind of people does this pander to? im looking for realistic answers and not the typical, you know "its for weebs" i know it is but in what kind of category are they regarding their mentality?
>>
>>17305829

>>
>>17310117
Yeah, that's true. I honestly spend so much time focusing on adjusting speed and cover that I more or less have grown to ignore what the actual hi speed value is in a given song. Over the course of a day's play at the arcade, I find myself having a GN variance of about 10 or so; i.e., start the day at 260, eventually get to like 253, eventually get tired enough to where 265 gets better results. Throughout the course of it I'm constantly trying to make fine adjustments to speed or cover to account for however I happen to be performing. If I could just figure out a certain fixed value I should have to Sud+ and never touch it anymore, that would eliminate one variable. I know it should be more than 0 and less than something like 333. I think I just need to determine what's the minimum value it should be at so that the hi speed values are the greatest to reach the GN I want.

The only consistent positions are that you should give konami money, or that you should shun proprietary rhythm games and make a freedom-respecting rhythm game ecosystem. (There is a third option: not to play rhythm games at all, but then you wouldn't be in this thread)

You can't be against lining the pockets of gonami :DD and still play their games. It's self-contradictory because you can only play the games because they make money from it, as >>17311326 said.

The only sustainable solution that doesn't involve money going to companies like konami is to play fully non-proprietary rhythm games. It might be possible that a corporation sponsors or directly develops such a game, but even if they fail to make money the game can still continue because the game is out there for other people to develop (if the community is big enough for the game to not just sit and rot).

They will continue to create IIDX titles as long as it remains popular in Japan and I have no influence over that. Konami has shown over the years they give absolutely 0 shits about the west and have consistently made poor decisions in regards to allowing international consumers to enjoy Bemani, just because a few new Round 1s have opened doesn't mean Konami is suddenly interested in bringing rhythm games outside of Japan/SEA.
Besides, Konami hasn't even given me a proper outlet to give them any money at all, so like I said, I don't matter to them and they don't care about my money.
And don't even mention Infinitas, which I actually did pay for a month of to try out, but is so incredibly void of content and is so unnecessarily grindy just to play new songs it's almost an embodiment of their incompetence.

why do the autists get so assmad about talking about pirated IIDX?

Nowhere else on 4chan does anyone give 2 shits about piracy
>>
>>17317277
Because they literally have nothing else in their lives aside from completely misplaced elitism about their secret club.
>>
>>17317277
>>17317344

If you don't know then you obviously haven't been here long enough
>>
>>17317277
because the last time people were posting publicly about pirating konami arcade games, we got programmed world shut down. educate yourself
>>
>>17317402

right it was because people were posting on the internet about your score server, not because there were actual arcades running pirated machines on that server. makes sense.
>>
>>17317277
/v/ gets assblasted if you mention piracy in any context
