Yeah it's weird. In some other material it's stated she has respect for her older sister and in the Aya interview she is a bit of a cunt to her sister. And Aya thinks Flandre is just spouting incoherent nonsense. I have no idea what I should make of that, either the other thing is false and Flan is usually a dick or she just does it because she can shittalk Remi with a reporter around and any other time she just pretends to be on good terms.
From her fight I just got the impression that she likes to do a ruckus and can be as manipulative as many other youkai. And with success, your average fan thinks she is actually imprisoned in the basement, when she is actually more like a hikkikomori.
Too bad we will never get more canon stuff with her. There is just no exitement about her left, everything possible was already done in fanon.

A very vague character who I don't have much interest in.
I like Remilia better and Remilia is not my favorite 2hu as a character.

Being honest doesn't make everything respectful. Unless you mean that Flan is an autistic, naive girl that can't understand that undermining the head of her household in front of the press in a world with super powered people scheming and prodding for any kind of weakness is a dumb idea. But people usually see Flan as a forever victim that can do no wrong, so it's no surprise that people confuse canon and fanon so much.

That isn't an accurate reading of the setting at all. I hate to use this example, but it's not Game of Thrones. Most powerful characters are either loners or whimsical in nature.

She actually might not be able to in a too direct way. The devil contract states they can't attack humans, but the exact details could include more or them getting involved could be seen as that. It might also be that with food being covered the village isn't of any interest.
That contract also is a reason to not have Flan leave the SDM, since it's hard to say what would happen if she came across a villager, with her tendency to just break things.
