LET'S PLAY UMINEKO, GOATS ( •̀ω•́ )
I want older main characters
kids/teenagers in Higurashi, young adults in Umineko, older adults MCs in the next WTC would be great
>>17214331
Agreed. The most interesting characters in Umineko were the parents. I don't think he'll go for a 30-something protagonist, but I do hope the cast is rich with older people/parents. They have much more backstory to them if done right

I-I love you, Beato! P-please be my gf!!!
>>17214331
Older adults that look like lolis and we're talking
I want to make disgustingly sweet love with Rosa.
>>17214354
Beato.
Am I the only one who has a bug(?) in my Umineko Chiru version, in some scenes near the end of some of the episodes the voice acting gets all high-pitched and weird, it fixes itself when that scene is over. Has this happened to anyone else?
>>17214331
I hope not, that would literally kill any chance of it being popular with Japanese audiences and the thing I care about the most in the new WTC is whether it makes 07thexpansion and Ryukishi back to his former glory, I would just enjoy seeing the creator of the stories I love so much be praised again.
>>17215328
Happened to one of the let's players in the middle of EP7
>>17215328
>>17215337
I think there is a patch for it, you have to replace some music files.
>>17215328
It happened to me, too. You have to replace some music file whose name I forgot. The fix is written somewhere in the wiki.
>>17215427
Oh, fuck it, here it is: http://uminekofix.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:14452

I'm re-reading Meakashi and I have a questionWhy is it that in Tatarigorashi, when Keiichi calls Mion, she reacts like she heard that before from Satoshi? Shion was the one who heard it before. And if it was actually Shion pretending to be Mion, then that makes even less sense as she has no motivation to do that and hardly even knows who Keiichi is in that chapter.
Maybe there's something obvious that I'm just forgetting

Why does Umineko have such a lousy soundtrack compared to other high profile VNs?
>>17218258
No
>>17218262
What are you talking about? Umineko's soundtrack is one of the best out there in terms of both quality and variety.
>>17218272
I can agree there is a better assortment of song but they are really small.
Just look at Tsukihime ,all 12 tracks are masterpieces, but its biggest sucker is as you've guessed it the fact that there are only 12 of them.
>>17218297
I wasn't a big fan of Tsukihime's ost to be honest. It got way too repetitive for my taste. I've even seen some people recommend playing it muted.
Just got done reading this. Why was Hanyuu there anyway? Does she just dick around for a few months after Rika's death before looping again or is it just a plothole?
Tsukihime's ost is what I would call generic shitty vn music.
Having read most of both 07thexpansion's and Type-Moon's VNs I've come to realize why fate is one of the biggest franchises in the Otaku world right now while Umineko is kinda dead, particularly in Japan, writing fan fiction based on historical figures for man children will beat actually an interesting and complicated meta centric story that requires the reader to think about what he just read and what it means.
>>17218490
I actually enjoyed fate way back when, but now I feel like it's gone to shit with cashgrabs like Grand Order.
>>17217089
Wait, is it gone? I used it like a month ago. What happened?
>>17218556
You mean someone uploaded it again? I mean, I thought the thing went down years ago.
>>17218563
It's weird, I can't seem to find it now, but it was definitely up in 2017.
I don't know why but the way she says desu wa in the live guide to traps video drives me crazy (in a good way)
>>17218584
I found this but either it's not working or I'm doing someting wrong because the generated screencap never loads.
http://uminekossg.byethost7.com/generator/generator.html?i=1
>>17218653
>>17218584
I've seen like two identical umineko screenshot generators on different sites since like 2009. The one in >>17218653 is, if I'm not mistaken, the oldest one I had bookmarked, which I abandoned because it just stopped working properly. Trying in both Firefox and Chrome and it's not generating anything. The other one is no longer on the internet as of now, but I used it months ago. It worked, but took a million years to generate an image.
>>17218653
>>17218693
Yeah, that's the one I used in recent months. But I'm getting the same problem, doesn't seem to work anymore at the moment. It also was a lot of work to make an image.
I wish I was around for that other one you mentioned, but I never got to see that. A quick and easy way to make Umineko screenshots would be lots of fun.
>>17218853
I looked at the code and looks like the Generate button makes a call to some kind of service which is formed wrong.
Honestly I think I could just write that service again in a few lines, because to me it seems it's just a simple function that merges several image layers into one and returns the result.
The real chore would be having to code the interface again, it's a good thing we have that available, it only needs a bit of tweaking to get the call to the service right.
I wouldn't mind an Umineko Screenshot Generator using the PS3 sprites, or am I alone in this?
>>17219120
Agreed, having more options is rarely a bad thing.
>>17218383
>way too repetitive
For 5 routes, yes. But you can't say the weren't great.
>>17219142
I mean, I like the original sprites and they'd work well with the jokes and stuff in the made-up screenshots because the emotions on that sprites are better in my opinion. But I really hate the backgrounds of the original. Just overly blurry photographs. The backgrounds of the PS3 version are very nice, detailed and cosy-looking.
Did anyone ever rip those mangagamer higurashi sprites? I've been out of the loop for a while.

I always wondered if anyone else thought of this or was this common knowledge.
Shion 诗音 Mion 魅音, both have 音 in their names. They are sisters that pretend to be one identity.
Shannon 莎音 Kanon 嘉音 also have 音 in their names. She/he pretends to be two different identities, but is one single person.
I mentioned this two years ago at a con's WTC session, but no one else seem to have known this before, so asking here to see if I can get some answers. I joined the series pretty late so kind of missed the best time to discuss the game.
Also, asking if anyone has the screenshot on 4chan of a story about a russian guy owning drawing the Beatrice art, I kind of miss that one
>>17220473
It's really common knowledge. It's one of the reasons Shkanon was so loathed, since it was a really obvious rehash of Shmion.
>>17220473
Umineko and Higurashi have share a ton of similar yet different elements between them, like how in Higurashi Satoko pushes her parents off a cliff, while in Umineko Natsuhi pushes her child off a cliff.
>>17218490
Umineko is too much of a masterpiece for plebs and goats.
New at eleven, the earth is round, the moon orbits the earth, the sea is blue.
>>17218490
Congratulations, you just realized most people is dumb and thus the market needs to cater to dumb people.
>>17219459
There wasn't much to rip, the files were just located in the game files without any special filetype or anything.
Still frustratred that none of the remake sprites lives up to Takano's design. The original's and the Anime's are still by far the best.
>>17218490
Fate is much more action fantasy and the setting makes it much "better" for cashgrabs like Grand Order.
I enjoyed the original FSN plenty but it's not the same genre as umineko, it's not comparable.
>>17220525
It would be a rehash of ShMion if they swapped clothes though.

>>17223248
What about Takano though? She looked pretty huge in the original.
Would be more fair to compare the original sprites also. The Pachinko ones just took the ps3 sprites and inflated the breasts rather than basing themselves on the original.
>>17223293
Thanks a million anon! I've been stuck on that for quite a while.
>>17223318
True, but the originals is that a lot of the times it's impossible to accurately gauge the proportions. I try to take in examples from all mediums when analyzing such things, Like I did with Bern and Lambda a while back.
Takano's definitely the biggest from Higurashi, but I'd say Shannon or Gaap still likely have an edge over her, if only very slightly.
>>17223365
> Ben became totally flat in the ps3 version and Anime
What a fucking heresy. At least other mediums got it right.
>>17223376
Yeah, they were seriously pushing to make her like Rika, when she's supposed to be somewhere around a B-C cup. They probably would have done the same with Erika had Chiru been adapted.
>>17223405
How is Erika's chest compared to Bern's already? Same?
>>17223376
Ben is disappointed
>>17223411
Some material suggests Erika might be a bit bigger, but it's not conclusive. Erika herself ranges from flat to about a C cup depending on the artist.

What do you think/want WTC5 to be about? I really enjoy Ryukishi's mysteries, but since he said that this game would be much different from Higurashi and Umineko, I think he's going to try a new genre, which is a shame.
>>17226084
*since I didn't enjoy his other works.

Fate/Zero is great, Fate/Stay night is also great but has a bit too many generic anime tropes and its so weird that it breaks so many of the holy grail war rules.
Like, if I didn't know Fate/Zero was a prequel I'd think it was written first since its a much more proper holy grail war compared to Stay Night.
Why didn't Umineko have cool Ryukishi covers like Higurashi?
>>17236588
>>17236520

Who else from Umineko would be a good candidate aside from Kinzo? Maybe Featherine, but that might be a little too absurd.
Wasn't Rena originally planned to be playable as well? If we can extend it to other Ryukishi07 characters outside of Umineko, I think Alice from TRianThology looks like she would fit in, but I have no idea about her or what her movepool would be like. Hsiao-Lan from Rose Guns Days might be a fun idea for a general 07th Expansion fighter.

I find Daybreak a lot more fun than the Umineko fighter. It's really silly and the characters look like Ryukishi's original ham-handed moeblobs.
It feels more authentic I guess. And I love the stamina mechanic that allows you to fly and do all kinds of crazy shit.
>>17238752
Nah. I tried Daybreak and it was dated, not really that interesting, with a shallow gameplay. It's fun if you want to smash buttons and see things happen on the screen. The smash bros of Ryukishi fighting games.
Umineko Musou has honestly a pretty deep gameplay, and is ridiculously professional. More professional than both Melty Blood and the Touhou fighting games, which is saying something.
>>17239321
Yeah, OMK actually seems like a legitimate fighting game.
>>17239321
I'm not really a fan of fighting games, since I'm terrible at them. I hate having to remember how to do combos and shit.
I like them because I get to play as my favorite characters, not because of the gameplay. Daybreak is a bit shallow, but I find the controls more simple and easy to understand. It just feels good to play.
Every fight feels like one of Mion's crazy games, I really love it. And I love how all the characters have multiple weapons that they used at some point during the story, like Mion's Super Soaker or Tomitake's piece of wood.
The music is also pretty catchy, and I absolutely love how all the characters look like 3D versions of their original sprites. The game as a whole feels less professional and more amateurish, just like the VNs themselves.
... I just wanted to play as fat George in OMK.
>>17240135
Well, yeah. The smash bros of Ryukishi fighting games.
In Daybreak you can smash buttons and see people fly and do crazy shit. It's fun. It's not really that interesting, but it's certainly impactful. You have the whole doujin vibes. It's like the Haruhi fighting game. In fact, it's exactly like the Haruhi fighting game IIRC. Like, same control. Same graphics.
OMK is an incredibly good, deep, professional fighting game in comparison. Ridiculously so. In fact, as a fighting game veteran of 20+ years, I am absolutely amazed by the amount of deepness and just plain rightness in OMK. It werks. It isn't genius, isn't a masterpiece, but it's a good fighting game, with interesting gameplay and all that shit.
What was the cost of OMK? Why does Umineko have a better fighting game than, say, the Nasurverse, Tougou, or Haruhi?
>>17240653
>Why does Umineko have a better fighting game than, say, the Nasurverse, Tougou, or Haruhi?
Love. You can tell that whoever made OMK seriously loved Umineko with just how thorough everything is done.

Edit anon here. I know it’s been a while but I thought I’d go ahead and give a quick update on what I’m currently working on.If anyone still cares that is.I’ve decided to switch over to the PS3 sprites for future edits. My current piece is Eva-Beatrice, and here’s what I’ve got so far.
>>17245350
nice!
this will probably be better looking than the pachinko sprites edits (even if I like some of those too)
>>17245454
Thanks. I've started using illustrator in addition to photoshop, so hopefully that opens up some more options for me. I'm still getting a feel for when to use what.
Eva-Beatrice took me a while to get her anatomy down, particularly her legs. It's not as noticeable when clothed, but the PS3 sprite makes them seem way longer than they should be. Please let me know if anything looks weird as far as her proportions go.
>>17236372
I'd like to see something weird like Clair where a lot of her attacks are specific scenes from the games appearing in a fragment. Like for example, a fragment appears with Eva killing Battler at the end of episode 3, and you get shot by Eva. Shit like that.
I agree with Kinzo, and Gaap is also someone who really baffles me isn't in it.
I'd also like to see one of the uncles, probably Krauss.
>>17237722
I think a 07th expansion fighting game would be cool, really interesting if each series had its own special mechanics. Like, Umineko has the meta thing from OMK, Higurashi has something similar to the MUGEN characters, RGD has something like bullet time or something idk and Higanbana I don't know but I'm sure they could think of something.

This is what I'm hoping for after their work on Umineko. It'd also be great if the next WTC was actually released in the West. I always felt a bit guilty about reading Umineko without ever paying any money for it. I got some merch but I'm pretty sure Ryukishi doesn't get all that much money out of merchandise than if I'd have bought the VNs.
>>17249104
I've never bothered looking into any of the Higurashi side works. Are they any good?
>>17249313
Some of the random manga and stuff are decent enough, but you're gonna wanna check out more than the main series if you're a fan. Even the live actions, too.
>>17249355
I read Saikoroushi-hen and that manga with Natsumi.
I still don't know the difference between Matsuri, Kizuna, Sui, and Hou.
>>17249730
Sui is Matsuri and Kizuna combined. Sui basically has everything except for Hou, which is a short VN that includes Outbreak and Hinamizawa Bus Stop
Has anyone read Bus stop or Outbreak?
>>17250465
Yep. It was good.
>>17250465
It was fun, and Bus Stop is worth a look-see just to see what came before.

Last one's good.
>>17251375
I agree with >>17251421, the last one is good but the others you're kinda right, they're not bad tracks but they're not the reason I listen to Umineko OST.
So I've been looking into making a compilation of the best/most memorable Umineko quotes and was wondering if you guys could help me, looking for quotes in Japanese and romaji, gonna leave these two as examples and anyone can contribute with quotes they like:
Misete yaru yo, ougon no yume tte Yatsu ooooo~~
Hajimemashite, konnichiwa, tantei Furudo Erika tomo shimasu.
The Dyatlov Pass incident is seriously some Rokkenjima-level shit.

When it comes to truly bad tracks, though, those castrato singer tracks from EP7 take the cake.

I started reading Higurashi not knowing anything about it other than rika_knife.gif, 3 hours into Onikakushi and I thought someone had pulled some kind of joke on me, then watanagashi happened. I ended up reading all 8 chapters in one week.
Higurashi is still one of my favourite VNs 6 years later, I've almost never been that entranced by a piece of fiction since.

Anyone happen to have the ougon musou kyoku background images? All the links I've found around are either long dead or incomplete.
Alright so, what the fuck was the golden truth really?
>>17259094
You know enough of the truth to know the very underpinning of the game. One of the underpinning of Beato's game is that Kinzo is dead. No proof required. If you know the absolute truth, you can assure people that the game is not built on the idea that Kinzo is alive.
Same with Shannon = Kannon = Beatrice. No need to prove it, it's simply the golden truth.

This is Battler's uncle.
>>17263749
Why are you so sure? The old man kept saying he wanted to apologize, but that was when there wasn't any physical manifestation of his beloved Beatrice. We're dealing with a man who raped his own child (and the dirty geezer didn't even care about getting her pregnant (maybe that turned him on?)), remember that.

>>17271001
Some people refused to accept it in favor of the alternate Rosatrice theory. They're pretty fierce about it, though they seem to be in the minority.
This is pretty cool, it's even signed by Ryukishi
>>17271308
>>17271001
Sure, shkanontrice is the obvious intended solution, but you also have to remember that r07 went out of his way to show specifically that the intended solution isn't necessarily the best one there is. Even as someone who acknowledges it to be the truth, I still dislike most diehard shkanontrice-fags because they're intellectual rapists who force everyone to accept their reasoning whether they're going to benefit from it or not.
Is ruining peoples enjoyment of the story really worth getting them to acknowledge something they're not going to engage with emotionally anyway?
>>17271001
>theory
In the same way that evolution is a theory, sure. Shkanon and the personality wordplay was a retarded solution, but people need to get over it already. Once you realize all that stuff can be ignored if you just think of it as "the real name Sayo never gets mentioned in the red text, so there's a huge loophole for her in every game", it gets a lot more tolerable.
>>17271483
>Is ruining peoples enjoyment of the story really worth getting them to acknowledge something they're not going to engage with emotionally anyway?
The thing is, Shkannontrice supporters likely ARE emotionally engaged, which is why they're so invested in it.
>>17271001
Well, it's because Gohdatrice theory is the absolute truth.
>>17271728
Just like Erika is emotionally invested in her theory of how Beatrice made a candy appear under an upturned cup. Just because they're right doesn't mean they're correct if you get what I'm saying.

>>17271483
>>17271728
The problem with most Shkanontrice haters is that they are the ones screeching about how Umineko Chiru is shit and how Yasu is retarded.
There's more to Umineko than the mystery part.
Ignoring Yasu is ignoring what Umineko really is about.
>>17272646
>Ignoring Yasu is ignoring what Umineko really is about.
Umineko really isn't about Yasu as much as you seem to think it is. Ryukishi devoted a pretty sizeable chunk of episode 2 and 4 to Maria and Rosas relationship, expended a lot of resources to fleshing out Evas character, and almost all of the characters that appear in the first episode have a pretty impressive amount of depth to them. The heart of Umineko is that social commentary, as well as the discussions about the nature of truth.
If someone understood that much, even if they missed out on the intended culprit solution, I'd still be willing to grant that they understood what Umineko was about more so than your average yasufag does.
>>17272646
As someone who's a fan of Yasu, Chiru was shit precisely because we got way too little focus on the actual Yasu in favor of more meta-Beato shipping scenes. Battler being obsessed with having Chick-Beato put up her witch facade again in EP6 is disturbing as hell when you consider that he's basically refusing to accept Sayo for who she is and confirming all the fears and insecurities Shannon had that led to her "transferring" her love.
>>17272924
>Battler being obsessed with having Chick-Beato put up her witch facade again in EP6 is disturbing as hell when you consider that he's basically refusing to accept Sayo for who she is
He's definitely Kinzo's grandson.
