>>
>>17141735
You're not even understanding what I posted, OnC has a good reason, same as CITY wich is only connected at the end and Horizon which is basically killing Destinty before it wipe out every form of life. On hexennacht is different, is not about the destruction of the world (in case you don't know the real world is alive and kicking without any problem) is about selfish desires.
>>
>>17142275
>(in case you don't know the real world is alive and kicking without any problem)
That's only asumption. Maybe it's too connected to neverending doom circle, we don't know.

And how whats Mikoku did in OnC is not about selfish desire? Or even what Musashi is doing to a degree? And Destiny wants to kill herself because she felt responcible for what she did to the world, how its any different from what Shoko is doing? Screw the people of the world, if this world is broken I'll create another better one, even if there is no guarantee that what Destiny is doing in Horizon will succeed, the same is here.
>>
>>17142351
>That's only asumption.
No it isn't, and that was spoiled long ago, even the manga version gives you a slight glimpse of that. The real world which is Kagami's world is there without any issue or problems.

Mikoku's desire was founded by ignorance of what truly happened and once she learned about the truth she cannot stop, so team Leviathan has to deal with her mess after Mikoku understood that they wanted to save the world as much as Hajji did, the difference was the feelings from what happened in the past were still there.

Musashi is not doing the same, at all. Same as P-01m with Hashiba and PA O.D.A, Musashi wants to save the world through emotion, saving everyone who wanted to live outside the rules of the world, while Hashiba wants the same but using reason, even if that means making sacrifices.

Regarding Destiny, you're not getting the right idea. Destiny doesn't feel guilty about something he/she did, destiny is tired of watching humanity + the rest of the species fighting each other over and over again, killing themselves and losing lifes that could be saved if it wasn't for their nature. Destiny always existed in the world, but humanity gave it a personality so they can manage destiny in the way they wanted but as always they failed and now Destiny reached the conclusion that the only way to save humanity and the other races from their destruction is erasing the current world and restart it so this shit won't happen again.

P-01m's mission is basically using the ether moon to put Destiny inside her body and then kill herself, that way only the personality of Destiny dies and the world can continue.

tl:dr Shoko doesn't know what exactly is going on in the world and she did some shit for her own reasons. Any other story didn't have the same basis, it has a clear purpose and goal plus a very precise difference between reason and emotion, at least on Horizon and OnC (cuz CITY is different).

Why are the SPEER technohexen called Kime and Angie?
>>
>>17146829
Because that's the names their mothers used? LOL
>>
>>17146829
As usual, alternate kanji readings.

Kime seems to be based on reading Yoshiaki as Kimei, although the "ki" part is a bit of an odd reading.

Angie is based on reading Yasuharu as Anji and then (just for fun) extending the ending vowel to make it Anjii.
Whether or not Kawakami intended for that to be the Western name, I don't know, but it looks better and matches nicely with the AnG chat name.

I've spotted a few problems.
https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Horizon:Volume_5B_Character_Introduction
Date Shigesana when it should be Shigezane. I don't know if the other character introductions have the same error, in which case it would need to be pointed out to prevent copying the error into future character introductions.
Also, Yoshiaki's nickname is given as Ushuu instead of Oushuu.
On https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Kyoukai_Senjou_no_Horizon#Series_Overview Girl's Talk 2 is misspelled Matsuri to Yumi. This one is simple to fix but requires a registered account.

I just noticed that the 150 cm mark on the first scale is in the wrong place (should be where Uzy is). The distance between each bar is obviously 10 cm, but there are four bars between 180 cm and 150 cm.

>>
>>17160745
>>17161098
I don`t think it's wrong. It's just that the number indicates the bar above and not the one below it.That also means Futayo is 158cm (without her hair accessory)
>>
>>17161346
It's wrong because the numbers in every other case indicate the bar below the number. It's the odd one out.
They could have at least moved the number up so it's closer to the bar above than the bar below.
This is really fucking minor nitpicking in an encyclopedia of over a thousand pages, I just happen to enjoy nitpicking

No, I agree with you.
They could have just used 140 instead if they wanted to have it there but I get the feeling they just copy/pasted the text from the 150 below.
Kimi, Asama and Horizon line up correctly for it to be 10cm intervals in both cases but the position of the 150 definitely makes it look like it is referring to the line below instead of above.
>>
>>17161628
Very nice.
>>
>>17161565
It's good nitpicking to me. I wouldn't make sense to me any other way. That would mean Futayo would be 160cm which is a lot smaller than my estimates I based off her figma and scale. 170cm makes a lot more sense to me.

Yes. I hate to spoil but I'm going to have to say the killing process probably also failed. Since in Hexennacht they still have to go to the Moon to kill the "witch".

I guess the issue would be finding out what exactly happened between the end of Horizon and Obstacle Overture. Even the name is appropriate since the event in Overture leads event in Hexennacht.

>>17147928
From how Korean TLs came out, I'm going to have to say it's intentional. There's footnote for every single chat handle of 10 Speers here, so.
>>
>>17207860
>I hate to spoil but I'm going to have to say the killing process probably also failed. Since in Hexennacht they still have to go to the Moon to kill the "witch".
That's not even close to be right m8, not a single chance.
In Horizon they're using the ether moon to stop the apocalypse, doesn't matter if they use it to kill Destiny or for another option. On Hexennacht the Moon on the world created by Shoko is just something that is not real, just a replica where she lives, the original world that allows the concept of contradiction on Kagami's world doesn't have 2 moons.

Obstacle era is about creating many worlds and see if those worlds can survive destruction until humanity and the rest of the races finally creates one that can survive that process, Hexennacht is only one of those worlds and that's why Kawakami stated "one of countless obstacles". City is the final world that can survive destruction.
>>
>>17208680
>on Kagami's world doesn't have 2 moons.
Is kagami's world and doesn't have 2 moons*

Sorry this fucking phone sometimes sucks balls.
>>
>>17208680
>Obstacle era is about creating many worlds and see if those worlds can survive destruction
You see that's the thing I don't get since it didn't seem to have happened with this clear purpose. The whole reason for multiple worlds existing was because Kagami's sister created them, right? It wasn't with the purpose of avoiding destruction.
>>
>>17208748
That's exactly one of the things why I didn't like Hexennact too much, the continuity we used to get since OnC is not present there and it has some plot holes here and there.

Now if I want to give Kawakami some slack, CITY is weird as fuck until everything wraps up at the ending (that's what js06 said).

Should I post the world construction?
>>
>>17207794
Ah I see. Thank you for that fill in. I'm trying not to read it until Korean one comes out. Trying to support the author by buying legal copy.

>>17208789
>>17208748
At CITY, it was revealed that the purpose of multiple timelines (someone actually told me it wasn't parallel-universe like you think it is but rather it was universe looping itself from ascending to destruction, which makes more sense to me desu, as none of event in OBSTACLE is "concurrent", as mentioned by Kawakami-san) was to find the "right answer". But it's clear that "right answer" was never found by the end of the Horizon, that much we can at least agree on.

Also, if we are to force the OnC plothole, biggest one would be the fact that we have all the other parallel world people in the Horizon (and by extension, it would mean AHEAD universe also) knew that there are non-Humans that exist in the world, but they seem to lost knowledge of what happened during the event of OnC, which would indeed be ironic, especially with all the Elf-race, Dragon-race, Demon-race and all.
>>
>>17210125
I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding what you posted, but I'll try to answer based on what I could get.
I don't think it's a plot hole the people from Horizon not knowing about the origins of some of their races. Remember there's the whole EDGE age where everybody left the planet for some wacky space adventures. A LOOOOT of time has passed since AHEAD, to the point that even to the long-lived in the HORIZON era things have always been that way, and those races were already there with them.
>>
>>17210415
>Wacky EDGE age
>Wacky space adventures
>Hey, let's give fate emotions so it could screw us over and try to kill itself by doing XXXX

Now that I think about it, they still haven't explained XXXX.
>>
>>17210415
Didn't Kagami said that her sister fought some wacky spaces wars or did i misunderstand this dialogue?
>“When it was a space war, she had injuries dealt with using individual superpowers or a healing pack while machines were repaired using repair equipment. The common pattern was for it to look like the enemy was in the center of the universe, but then everything would gather there and begin to be annihilated.”

How far did the Horizon Manga went?

The Horizon Manga covered the first volume of the books., so yes.

I believe he said he wrote the basic concept of the entire Kawakamiverse back in his High School age? So that's literally 20 years ago, at earliest? Though it's clear that he still hasn't completed the knacks out on EDGE.
>>
>>17251796
I can't wait to read more Horizon, hopefully Js06 delivers because I couldn't care less for Hexennacht.
>>

To be honest is not like Hexennacht is bad, but it lacks in a lot of things that other LN's coming from kawakami dont.

World building is almost nonexistant, character development is basically centered only on Kagami and Horinouchi, everyone else is the usual jobber and disposable characters you fin on any random light novel out there, the info dump about this world is on the same level.

OnC didn't have that problem, CITY has more depth than Hexennacht even with the episodic nature of the stories, Horizon is the pinnacle of the LN genre and Forth doesn't count because is not even a light novel.

What Hexennacht is in reality? an attempt from Kawakami to make a magical girls story that didn't hold the elements that make any of the other titles so special.
>>
>>17256343
I want to see "Magical Girl StaLin!" adventures.
>>
>>17253202
In this sense, Kawakami is just like Kinoko Nasu, except Kawakami didn't give up (cash out) half way through.
>>
>>17254419
I'm really enjoying Hexennacht. Sure, it's different from Kawakami's other works, and somewhat lacking in the titanically-complex-worldbuilding aspect, but it's got plenty of it's own charm and the characters are great. The battles are fantastic and it's great fun.
>>
>>17253202
>So that's literally 20 years ago
Actually CITY is 20 years old, when Kawakami did that was more than 25 years ago.
>>
>>17256343
I feel ya, Hexennacht is the same as NT for Kamachi. A great idea that was executed like shit.
>>
>>17256684
This is a low blow.
>>
>>17256343
My main problem with Hexennacht is the complete lack of tension and stakes. Yea, it's kinda another "saving the world" story. but you never felt like the characters were in danger, like battles meant something( we are fighting for... another rank? well ok), like there is weight to everything. This is ok for magical girl genre but really unusual for Kawakami works. Even Nanoha have more tension than this, and it says something.

All breasts are great, they're just great at different things. Asama's would have a great texture and shape for surprise groping from behind, fitting with how easy she is to fluster.
Kimi's meanwhile aren't as receptive to a surprise grope, which makes sense given her likely reaction to such a thing, but if she's into it, the firmness would make for an amazing paizuri, and unlike Asama's which would likely squish down into themselves, if Kimi's willing to lay down with you, hers would still be perky and tempting against the force of gravity.

So... when the Book of Creation released its power, all the worlds have become real?
I don't get the ending.
>>
>>17275450
You have to read between the lines using what information we already had on the Obstacle era.

The overview of all the eras (https://pastebin.com/fSp9FpaD)had this to say about Obstacle:
>Some unknown means were used to create several worlds based on the destroyed Foundation World and they were repeatedly destroyed.
>The aim was to create a world that would not be destroyed, but these strange worlds in which a few materials were removed or added to the Foundation World all ended up being destroyed.
>Originally, this was thought to have been a single world, but investigations show an uncountable number of worlds were created one after another and each one had its history proceed to the level of the foundation era.
Presumably, this is referring to the Book of Creation.

In an untranslated part of City, it's explained that the previous worlds were destroyed because they did not contain enough powerful "things" to avoid destruction, but that the stronger "things" they did contain would survive that destruction and remain in the world afterwords. City is almost entirely composed of those stronger "things" which allows it to continue existing without being destroyed.
So presumably the Book of Creation was storing up the stronger "things" from each world its owners created and destroyed and it released all of those into the real world at the end of Hexennacht, which lays the foundation for the City era (although history still has to get reset somehow).

For more detail, the "things" mentioned above are known as Concept Existence Lives and they are a fundamental part of the world that says certain concepts will exist in that world.
City used the examples of automatons and mechs as concepts inherited from previous worlds and the end of Hexennacht showed us dragons and witches as examples of concepts being brought to the real world.
>>
>>17275559

That's the chronological order and the best way to read it so all the pieces fall into the proper places. Another advice is that you never take what you're reading in a literal way, if there is one thing you should always keep in mind is the fact that Kawakami loves having a lot of mystery and secrets aroud that are related to the characters and their past.

For doubts about thos (you will have them quite a lot) ask to the ones who can really answer you, which are a couple of oldfags here and js06.

This is the long ass post, useful info.

1. World Construction
Ever since the City World came to be, many different worlds have existed and been destroyed. However, it has been mostly proven what kind of world it was based on.
That world is tentatively known as the Foundation World.
As the name suggests, the Foundation World acted as the foundation of the current world and it is thought to have had a similar flow of history. The Foundation World is broadly divided into four eras:
-Forth
-Ahead
-Edge
-Genesis
These four eras are connected, but the Foundation World was destroyed at the end of the Genesis World.
After the Foundation World’s destruction, the world was experimentally recreated and destroyed again and again in search of a world that would not be destroyed.
This significant wandering era was a great obstacle to the world, so it is known as:
-Obstacle
During this great obstacle era, either the world got tired of being destroyed or there was some other reason because a world made not to be destroyed was finally created.
And that is the City World that we live in.
It is known as:
-City
Now, let us look briefly over those six worlds.

2. Forth
The pre-hope era.
This was the calmest era of the Foundation World. There were plenty of wars, but it was peaceful on the macro level and the only crises were on a regional scale.
It had little individuality, but it was likely an era focused on personal points of view.

3. Ahead
The progress era.
The Foundation World began to change during this era, but the reason is not well known.
All we know is that various things and technologies began to exist at around this point.
Bipedal humanoid machines.
Large aircraft.
A world of electrical signals and the technology to reach other planets.
The existence of other races, bodily modifications, etc.
It does not seem these things initially existed in this world, but it is not known where they came from. For this reason, people were not able to make these technologies entirely their own during this era. They used them as if borrowing them, they imitated them, and they researched their foundations.

4. Edge
The cutting-edge era.
As people grew more and more used to the technologies gained during the Ahead era, they abandoned the earth for some reason and went into outer space.
The details are unknown, but a single star system caused a rebellion for some reason. In this era, the ether-like fuel source that was discovered during the latter part of Ahead became widely used and the technologies researched during the Ahead era were created to suit this world.

5. Genesis
The great foundation era.
In this era, people returned to Earth.
For some reason, people became unable to use most of the old technology and primarily used the technology gained during Ahead and Edge. This resulted in that super technology fully belonging to the Foundation World. They began to produce for themselves what can be seen as the foundations of what exists in this City World.
The earth was forced to revert back to the dark ages, but it recovered afterwards. However, the war that caused the end of the Edge era restarted and the world was destroyed.

6. Obstacle
The great obstacle era.
More about each of those will likely become known in the future.

7. City
The city era.
Or perhaps it should be called the City World. This world was created during Obstacle as a world which could defeat the power that leads to destruction.
In the name of progress, the City World gathered the technologies from the Foundation World and all of Obstacle. Currently, City original technologies are being produced as well.
The protection put in place when this world was constructed seems perfect so far, but this has become a world of self-responsibility where the residents try to do something about it for themselves.
Well, even now there have been times when the destruction of the world seemed only a step – or maybe even less than that – away from destruction, but it seems someone has always thrown a punch to correct things.
Perhaps that is because the destruction of this world would mean your very existence has lost. That is a good reason to put some effort into it. I wonder if there is anything good about doing that. Yes, I’m sure there is!
Okay, everyone. Do your best with whatever until we meet again.

So you have to understand that OnC is placed on AHEAD, Horicon on Genesis, Hexennacht on OBSTACLE and City obviously on CITY era.
>>
>>17282405
That's a quite interesting, if vague, timeline.
Is there anything other than the place of OnC in the chronology that I should retain from it, though? Maybe that they are using technologies they don't understand or produce by themselves, procured by unknown means?
>>
>>17282447
Not really, this is only Evolution and nothing more than that.

OnC is the break point between the real world and the "new" world. Once you finish OnC you will understand what that means.
>>
>>17282466
Sounds good. I guess I'll leave the questions until I finish 1B at least.
>>

Berlin is much more straightforward and
at 5 volumes makes up the bulk of City's latter half.

DT can get bogged down in made-up terminology too, but the computer/vidya theme was (for me) easier to keep track of than the Pointing and Signing stuff in Paris.
It also helps that Horizon's sign frames and Mice are reused elements from DT, so some of it is already familiar.

This is not supposed to be "altitude" and is correct as-is, right?

That being said, if you want to just hop straight into the Horizon LNs, you can. Reading OnC first is helpful, but each series stands on its own.

http://baka-tsuki.org/project/?title=Kyoukai_Senjou_no_Horizon

The anime covers 1-A through 2-B. It's better to read from the start, though, since plenty of stuff got cut or compressed for the anime.

In general? The Horizon girls taking turns telling stories about some past event to create a record that contains the whole story.

This one in particular? The story of Mary joining Musashi and how that relates to IZUMO initially refusing to let the Musashi land there.

Kawakami is clearly having a lot of fun with these and he uses the "it's a story they're telling" setup for unreliable narrator gags, phantom tsukkomis from characters who aren't even there, and cutting back to the present for multiple characters to comment on the story.

Muneo is Toori's nickname for Muneshige, kinda like how he calls Masazumi "Seijun". It's basically taking the name "Muneshige cannon" one step further.

>“E-either way,” said Horinouchi, “defeating the Black Witch is our most important task, so greater attack power should be a good thing.” >“Looking at it another way, this means we already have attack power equal to the Black Witch’s, doesn’t it?” asked Horinouchi.
>Now that you mention it, thought Horinouchi before saying more.
>“It may be somewhat insane, but we can also rival the Black Witch’s defense…or rather, we have a way of repairing our Devices. And on the level of recreating them entirely.”
