The Touhou universe is like an old Disney movie. Even though it mentions many dark and grotesque elements, we only get to see the E-rated stuff. Complicated matters, such as Sakuya's habits, or how the youkai keep feeding on outsiders without freaking out the local humans, are conveniently overlooked.

Speaking of which, ZUN is a master of "conveniently overlooking" things as he sees fit. Even though the Touhou timeline follows the actual, real-world time, which means that two games released 3 years apart also take place 3 years apart in story, none of the humans have aged one day. Sakuya can be excused due to her manipulating time thing she has going on, but Reimu and Marisa who have no such abilities should have turned 30 by now (they were in their mid to late teens back in 2002).

In other words, just the usual downward spiral of toho doujins depicting someone unfortunate enough to rack up debt and have no other way to pay it off. Merc., Assassin, etc.

Me saying "debts must be non existent" was just another way of saying that people could ask others for a favor and never have to pay it off if history isnt really worth preserving since there is little to no conflict. Though, to counteract this, they do favors of their own.

That conversation doesn't exist. The human pastries thing is from the omake, and it's not a mistranslation.

You're right that there's no confirmation that it's Sakuya who prepares the pastries, but who else could it be? Flan said that she doesn't prepare her own food, and that she doesn't think Remilia does either. Meiling is just the gatekeeper, Patchouli is more like a permanent guest than an actual worker, and the fairy maids are all comically incompetent. Meanwhile, Sakuya is the chief maid, and someone who shows a general lack of empathy towards humans.
