Why aren't you studying for N2?
>>
I could pass N1, I believe. But then I would have to go outside. Nah.
>>
>>17096543
I am.
>>
Because I passed N1.
>>
>>17096543
I'm studying for N4, that's twice as good.
>>
>>17096543
Would Core10k + DoJG + Kanzen Master be enough? I've done my N3 last year, thinking of signing up for N2 this winter.
>>
Where can I find N2 practice tests online?

I only know the one on the JLPT site.
>>
此の俺様には何の試験だって合格出来るよ?
>>
>>17107069
Sure thing, N2-kun.
>>
I passed N1 in 2012 and I've lived in nipnong since last year.
>>
>>17096543
Studying is hard.
>>
>>17105705
That is almost enough for N1. Seriously.
Kanji reading will be a piece of cake, and reading/grammar will not be very hard.
Make sure to get lots of listening practice.
>>
エロゲーさえ読めればいい。試験とか意味ない。
>>
>>17110585
I can barely undertand that and I've never studied Japanese
>>
wtf is n2
>>
>>17110264
>Make sure to get lots of listening practice.
What would you recommend for listening? I'm just listening to radio shows that I like, and that's about it. Should I get some audiobooks or something?

Japanese is difficult.
>>
>>17096543
I passed N1 four years ago.
>>
>>17130612
>>17107529
>>17096771

Speaking of which, I knew someone who went to take the N1 exams drunk and passed. It seriously can't be that easy can it?
>>
>>17096543
Because I need to learn all the kanji for N5 first :'/
Damn its hard to remember them..
I can recognize a few when I see them on screen, but I have no idea what they look like when I'm going to write them, lul.
Dying soon. But I can't stop.
>>
>>17127914
Japanesepod101 is quite good and got lots of stuff. But paid subscription.
However you can register as a free member and get email notification on subscription offers. they have like 30 to 40% offers on premium and premium+ almost every month.
>>
>>17130623
You only need 100 points out of total 180. And that 100 needs to contain at least 20 points out of each 60 point section. I.e. you can go 60-60-10, which would be 130, but still fail.

So if you've studied long enough and reached somewhere around the N1 level, you don't have to give it your all to pass.

If you want the test as proof for some Japanese institution, those usually ask for score too, so you need to do your best.
>>
>>17130623
it's easy as hell, went from 0 knowledge to passing it in about 4 months
>>
>>17110104
studying is really hard. how do you guys focus, /jp/?
>>
>>17131648
Use the pomodoro technique when you don't feel like doing something. If you can't manage that, then you're fucked.
>>
>>17131674
i've never heard of that technique before. i'll try it out.
>>
>>17096543
Because I can easily pass N1
>>
>>17131946
Why didn't you do it?
>>
>>17132075
What for?
>>
>>17132086
To stop being a self-assessed N1.
>>
My ultimate goal is to pass N2. Will this allow me to find a decent job in Japan? I'm currently at N4 stage :'(
>>
>>17132483
No.
>>
So if I were to take a Japanese proficiency exam for foreigners like the EJU, and got to the writing section, and wrote everything in kana, would I lose points?
>>
>>17130623
Are you incapable of speaking while drunk or something? Language is the easiest shit in the world.
>>
>>17133754
There's no speaking at JLPT, EOP-kun.
>>
>>17133769
"Comprehending" seemed a bit awkward.
>>
>>17133835
"Reading".
>>
>>17132483
No. A graduate degree in a technical field and some specialized experience will though.

But why would you want a job? You die if you work.
>>
I did JLPT 4 way back in 2006, but never did anything beyond that. Since I'm going to Tokyo at the end of December this year I was thinking of brushing up and doing JLPT again, but I can't decide whether to do N5 or N4.

I know the website says N5 is roughly equivalent to the old 4, but I don't know whether I remember enough of it to attempt N4 this time...I'm still pretty solid with kanji and reading, but vocabulary/verbs/listening, not so much. Any thoughts for an old 4 pleb?
>>
>>17134574
You sound like a complete fucking retard so it barely matters, but why are you interested in taking the exam if you're probably going for pleasure, and even if you weren't, literally nobody there will be impressed with your N4?

Honestly, is your life that utterly devoid of meaning?
>>
>>17134588
Because I find learning languages fun, though I'm not sure you know what fun is, anon.
>>
>>17134596
What part of learning languages requires you to take meaningless exams in the language equivalent of tying your shoes? Do you need a new shiny sticker every year to keep it up or something?

I take it back, you're even stupider than I imagined. I bet you're one of those braindead polyglot wannabes with 5 languages "learned", because you know how to say "hello" and "where is the toilet?" in them. I'm sure mommy is very proud of your swimming certificates and participation awards, but maybe you should grow up.
>>
>>17134612
>meaningless exams
Having a tangible goal when learning is meaningless, huh? Chill the fuck out. Passing N2 won't get you out of your parents' basement.
>>
>>17134644
>a tangible goal
Being able to read something is a tangible goal. Sitting in a sweaty exam hall with the absolute worst weeb dregs around for the sake of a slip of paper that means nothing to anyone, AND paying for the privilege? That's not a goal, it's just pure idiocy.

If you were aiming for N1 to get a job, that's one thing. But N4/5? You're just dumb.
>>
wew lads
>>
>>17133754
>Language is the easiest shit in the world
Why is it so hard for people to learn then?

>>
>>17134612
>>17134668
Your failure to pass N2 must have had big effect on your psyche.
>>
>>17096543
Because I have the N1 dummy.
Going to apply for an engineering position, I will see if the JLPT is that useful.
>>
>>17138225
All government and big corporate jobs will ask you for certificates upfront, before even considering you.
>>
>>17138487
Japanese is not, formally at least, a requirement for the position.
However I will be trying to negociate a good package so I expect this certificate to tip the scales a bit.

I should be eligible for that 5 years multi-purpose visa if I make it, since there is a +15 points bonus for those who passed N1.
>>
>>17134864
It's not. It's piss easy but takes a long time and monolingual retards are impatient.
>>
There's no reason to try for anything other than N1, no matter what your personal motivations are. They must make tons of money off the retards that take the other levels, especially considering how many people fail even the N5. Passing the N1 won't necessarily mean you can manage to read through something complicated either, so it's really all very pointless.
>>
what are some good sites with practice tests? ive never tested my skills on a standardized test

>>
>>17139890
It's not about motivation, it's about disciplining yourself.
>>
>>17138772
>>17140522
All these N1 posting about patience and self-discipline on a board full of NEETs...

It's almost like they feel the need to prove something
>>
>>17140569
You can be a NEET and still have patience and self-discipline. You just use them for things that don't make you any money and get you ridiculed for wasting your time.
>>
>>17140569
See >>17138147 except in your case it probably was N3.
>>
>>17140522
but how do you discipline yourself without motivation
>>
>>17140522
How do you discipline yourself?
>>
>>17140522
You don't need discipline if you have motivation. I can tell you that learning Japanese was really enjoyable for me, and I never studied on a rigid schedule, I just did it whenever I wanted to. And since I actually liked the way the language worked and loved the content it opened up for me, I wanted to (and did) do it really often, usually several hours daily. I still enjoy exploring classical japanese and digging deeper and deeper into the language, but the time I spend on that has decreased since if there's anything I love more than Japanese, it's Japanese video games, VNs, novels, comics, etc. I passed N1 after three years of "studying" btw. I probably could have passed it earlier but I obviously didn't feel any need to rush to take any tests.
>>
>>17141954
post your score so we can laugh at it fag
>>
>>17096543
Why would I take N5-N2? I'm learning Japanese to utilize it, not to impress EOPs.
>>17134612
Your tirade was 無理 if you can't tell by your replies. This is /jp/. American NEETs go here. Do you know how to keep internet and a house and food and ero figs without a job? Mommy and Daddy pay for it or they're on disability. Not that you're in the wrong, but you're not reaching anyone.
>>
>>17141978

>>
>>17142209
Not him, but very meh.
>>
>>17139890
Guy you originally replied to here. I actually taught myself several languages. It's not about motivation or even discipline. At least, it doesn't have to be. You just have to get used to it, make it part of your daily routine so even though you have no willingness you still do some stuff every day out of habit because it feels weird not to, the same as fapping and browsing /jp/. Developing a habit is the only real challenge. After that it just takes time, though it might take less than you would expect to get literate and conversational, even if that may not cut it for the JPLT. Not that I'd know, since I don't plan to ever take it.
>>
That feel when you can BS your way through a lot of stuff and are too lazy to seriously study anymore. I'm stuck somewhere around N3.
>>
>>17144770
don't give up!
>>
>>17138772
You're saying a brainlet like me could pass? I don't think so, theres so.much Kanji to learn it looks pretty fucked desu. I want to live in Japan so bad though. Even if I pass my n1 there's still tons of more fluent people to take the jobs.
>>
>>17147343
It's just a language. You don't have to be smart to learn it. You just have to invest time. You know at least one language, do you not?
>>
>>17147343
Kanji being hard is a dumb meme perpetuated by idiots who haven't spent even a moment trying to learn Japanese and anki monkeys (who may as well be the same thing). Just learn jukugo like you would learn words in any other language and you'll absorb kanji knowledge like a sponge, or something.
>>
>>17147547
Should I use core 2k
>>
>>17147547
What's wrong with Anki?
>>
>>17147547
>>17148051
think he's trying to emphasize that learning jukugo directly is faster than grinding individual kanji for onyomi and kunyomi readings, which I would agree with.

Anki is still useful for grammar and for mining jukugo from reading materials
>>
>>17145179
Th-thanks anon, I'll ganbaruzoi

>>
>>17147343

You don't "learn" kanji. You read and passively absorb words. Kanji are just characters that make up words and don't mean anything on their own.
>>
>>17152733
>don't mean anything on their own
Huh? I thought every kanji character each had their own individual meanings.
>>
>>17139065

Companies take people with N2 onwards.
Universities ask for N3 onwards.

Not like NEETs that learned japanese to wank it to nukige care about actually using japanese in their day to day lives. But the JLPT exist for a reason, and "making money" is not one of them (thought that It's also a mistaken idea, as the JLPT is extremely cheap comparing it to TOEFL or IELTS).
>>
>>17154424
Considering they don't test your production skills in any way it's probably a lot cheaper to do the tests
>>

I'm studying but I'm terribly inconsistent. Just like with all of my pursuits I put in a good effort but I can't keep up that pace. It's not like I haven't studied at all since I can get through my study materials and the explanations. It makes me wonder how I got this far in the first place.
Please say something nice so that this idiot can do their best, /jp/.

I mean they kind of do but not in any meaningful way.

Got N3 in 2014 and then slowed down as I picked up other hobbies. Finally grinding for N1 this year. I took a peek at the practice questions and it seems a tad easier than the news, so hopefully reading NHK is a good start.
