2chan is dying, there's a lot of slow boards and empty threads from the last 2 months. If anything you can still browse the major 2D board (二次元) for the anime season.

That's the thing, neither of those sites have gotten significantly easier to use. 4chan looks "old" but it's been modernised significantly over the past few years. Compare the site in 2007, 2012, and today.

Yeah I noticed more Japanese YT channels, content and activity recently.
It is sorta of a shame. There was quite a bit of novelty and uniqueness with Japan having their own native video website. But Nico has only themselves to blame given how shit they've been.
And we haven't even gone to how poorly designed and outdated alot of Japan's websites are.
The continuing decline and irrelevance is real.
