There's also the game's japanese title itself which isss "Eastern Jade Scepter of the Skies".

I'm not very versed in japanese or chinese legends (since Zun loves drawing inspiration from chinese mythology too) but there sure's got to be something in eastern folklore about seasons, stars and well, jade scepters.

Pretty much every theory that relies on previous characters will fall apart I believe. Sure in the post-MoF era the Moriya shrine was involved with a few things but the main plot was always focused on new characters. Plus I'd find hard to believe they'd be involved with something this big.

I guess stage 4 will take place in the forest of magic then.

Perhaps Alice will appear and guide the protagonist, like in PCB. The game is kinda similar to PCB anyway.

No, Reimu actually does solve incidents through spirituality and asking the gods. Her problem is she's just rash to judge and thinks anyone who shows up in front of her is part of it.

A recent chapter of FS involved her and Marisa trying to figure out who took Kosuzu. Marisa solved it by gathering evidence and using logic. Reimu consulted some spirits to get the answer and beat Marisa there.

I tend to likd the newer soundtracks more than most people here, but while I think the compositions themselves are much better now, the older instrumentations were more characteristic of Touhou and its world than the new one. Yeah, I think the synths and hip hop drumkits fit TD and LoLK given the settings of those games, but I'd love to see ZUN's more refined compositions and mastering with the detuned, more mystical instrument choice of DiPP and EoSD or the more acoustic and jazzy instrument choice of MoF and UFO.

Biggest difference is that in SWR the weather would reflect on a single person's personality (everywhere around Reimu was sunny, everywhere around Marisa was raining). In HSiFS, different places in Gensokyo are having different seasons.

While both incidents have to deal with weather, we could say that TH16's is a bit more geographic than SWR

ZUN really isn't even being subtle here, albeit knowing English and English literature may be an unfair advantage. He's pretty much asking for it when the stage 1 boss is declaring their intent to become god though.

"A star of hope" is oddly specific though. My guess was that it was intentionally vague enough to refer to either the protagonist or the stage boss.

I'm less by the midsummer dream one though. It is oddly appropriate to the premise of this game, but it's also true that it's an extremely excessively referenced title. Even Hirasaka's manga used Midsummer Dream as the title of its recent summer chapter.

Typically when the hero is highly motivated with lofty ambitions, they're more grounded and just trying to improve the world, rather than achieve complete control over reality.
