Found these guys at an antique show today. The woman behind the counter wondered why I
"'wanted those ugly things and had no idea what they were, but I think they're beautiful. I hope they were used for bunraku. but they don't quite look like the bunraku that I've seen in the past. Regardless, I'm glad that I bought them.
I'll be posting more pics in a bit if anyone is interested. I'll also dump pics and videos of bunraku.

Seriously though, why'd you want those ugly Chinese dolls? Get some superior cute Japanese dolls instead.

Are those Chinese? I thought they were bunraku.

They look like Chinese people wearing Chinese clothes. I don't know what country they were made in, but saying they are Chinese (ethnicity) probably isn't incorrect.

Yeah, you're right. I wouldn't say that >>16974056
are less ugly though. In fact, they're a bit nondescript in the face and the joints are apparent. Some newer Japanese dolls that were in the Doll Thread a couple days ago are beautiful though. Might actually have to get one.

I think dollfie type dolls are disgusting honestly. Although, I don't really like heavily visible joints either. I think ones of this type are better, but I don't have any idea how flexible they are.
It's kind of strange you'd say you don't like joints though, since you like puppetry. If it wasn't all hidden by clothes, wouldn't they be a big mass of joints?

They're not immediately visible though. I even like Revoltech figures though, so I guess I'm confused. Something about the previous figures' smooth yet visible joints kinda whigged me out.

Anyone recognize this style?

No one?

I don't think anyone on an otaku board knows anything about Japanese muppet shows. There was some taiwanese puppet tv series that was popular a couple seasons ago though.
Just post your images and vids and hope you interest people
