Being anal here, but there is no such critter in official classifications.
The 'LONG HULL' variant SUMNER-class (yes, all caps) is about par with the 'SHORT HULL' variant SUMNER-class, which is about par with the FLETCHER-class, just all in different roles.
Dropping the US Navy's odd obsession with Caps Lock, the Short Hull Sumners proved to be far more durable to punishment than the Long Hull variant (commonly called Gearings) and ironically better AA platforms.
The Long Hull variant would have been the superior Surface Warfare variant (because firing arcs) had they ever been available for that. They weren't.
And, to round it off, the Fletcher-class were better long range escorts.

So, in common parlance, the 'Sumner-Gearing' is one of the best DD classes in the war alongside the Fletcher, Battle, Shimakaze (only if you count a one off as a class) and Akizuki classes.

The Kagero-class is mostly overlooked because their claim to fame was their heavy battery of Long Lance Torpedoes - at a time where ship-launched Torpedoes were fading out of the limelight - and they suffered from weight problems, a poor overall meta-center of gravity, and other relatively minor but annoying problems throughout their careers.
To top that off, the Torpedo thing was something that Shimakaze did a lot better, on a much more durable and stable hull. Shimakaze didn't have most of the Kagero-class problems, having been designed with that foreknowledge.

While the Kagerou-class was certainly one of the best Destroyer classes going into the war, they were lackluster going out of the war.

The Fletcher gets a pass because they, well, they deployed 5 of the single best Dual-Purpose Guns in the war, the American 5in/38cal, in a proper mounting and served in that role until after Korea.
They were not called the 'Five Inch Anti Air Machine Guns' for no reason.
Of course, boasting the single highest number of hulls in the class of any warship class ever (there were 175 of them completed, almost all of them saw action) probably has a lot to do with this as well.
