i've decided i want the most accurately tagged, complete vocaloid collection possible. i've started sorting through all my unsorted vocaloid, re-tag everything including what's in my collection using vocadb to remove all "feat" from the artist tag and putting them in the comment tag. i've got around 2000 albums to audit and maybe less than 1000 already completed. i'm automating it as much as possible and i'm considering programming a foobar plugin that can just do this shit for me.

I started listening to vocaloid in high school and didn't know about producers, so I put just the vocaloids in the artist field. Then I realized producers were important, so I started putting them in the genre field, because my old mp3 player displayed the genre after title, artist, and album. Now the music app I use doesn't display anything but title, artist, and album without clicking "more info", so there's no point in putting the producers in the genre field. But all of my vocaloid music is formatted like that, and at this point I have hundreds of songs I'd have to change.

foobar2000 is the most useful for tagging files. use it and you won't struggle as much. back when i first started collecting vocaloid, i was fixing broken/missing tags field by field. it was tedious. but once i discovered foobar's scripting features and superior library support compared to winamp, into the trash it went.

i don't know if you're collecting individual songs or full albums but i can explain how i retag my albums really quickly. it's a very evolved autistic process, but it involves like no typing at all.

Setting up my userscript: Click the Greasemonkey icon on the top right in Firefox, 'New User Script...' paste https://pastebin.com/FUsreQdj into the box, save, then visit any VocaDB download page to test. A "Do Something" button will be at the top of the screen. Click it and it will download the album information the same as the "Download track info as CSV" button below it, except it will automatically use the following set of delimiters:

%artist%¶%discnumber%¶%track%¶%title%¶%album%¶%releaseyear%¶(%releaseevent%) %producers%%featvocalists%

Next we need to set up some hotkeys and our components in foobar.

Open foobar preferences and go down to 'Run Services'.
Click "Add' and 'Label' it whatever you want, this command will run an album search using the album tag of the currently selected album.

Then go up to 'Keyboard Shortcuts' in preferences and add a hotkey for it. Filter by whatever you labeled it and it will show up.

Next, right-click any file you have in there and "File Operations > Move to > ..."
Pick a folder where you want moved, properly renamed files and folders to go. Mine is H:\Music\!_mikudb
File name pattern: %album%/%discnumber%%tracknumber%. %title%

Go to the right top Presets field, type a name for this operation in, and click Save. This will move all files into a folder named the album name. I use this for Various Artists/compilations only so just keep in mind if you accidentally run this on a VA album, it will split them all up into separate folders going by %artist%.

Just the same as the last step you can create a hot key for this action.

Another, separate action is required if you want folders to be named by Artist - Album. Create a preset that looks like pic related, give it a suitable preset name, and click save. Create a separate hot key for this one like before.
