This is a thread to pay respects to the now discontinued Aizu-Wakamatsu station stream
-share what you have collected over the years
-what are some of your favorite memories of the station?
-discuss future streams we can follow
I will commence a slow dump
>>16806130
Holy shit. I have ever fireworks at the station in so many years of watching and lurking on these threads. Why must I only discover this after the stream dies ;_;
>>16806192
I thought that it would be a fitting image for this thread.
There are a good amount of rare events. I hope others share too
Contributing.
Wait, they are discontinuing the stream? I didn't visit the threads much but it was always nice seeing them in the catalog.
>>16806231
yeah, there was a content termination notice posted on the official site
afaik, it's not coming back
>>16806247
Damn. It feels like a big part of /jp/'s history is dying.
There are more train streams to watch, right?
>>16806263
I hope so. There were some anons in the final thread talking about other streams.
>>16552062
I agree. It does feel like /jp/ lost a part of itself now that the stream is gone
>>16806263
>>16806289
This is really trivia but I always wanted the manager for this board's 4chan cup team to have a player with our name on it as a way to acknowledge us.
>>16806263
There are a few other train streams as well as the thought expanding the thread to more of a Japan webcam general. A few tried to start a discussion about it in the last thread, but nobody else seemed interested.
>>16806309
That would be nice. I found a stream of a stork nest in my country and it was really nice, but not /jp/ related unfortunately.
>>16806309
>but nobody else seemed interested.
I wouldn't say that, I think its just then general indecisiveness and passiveness that, and I shouldn't be speaking for everyone, this board personifies in a way with the ゆっくりしていってね! attitude.
I think the indicative guidelines developed so far were:
> must be from Japan, interesting, minimum 480p, constant stream (none of those 2-frame-per-second streams), with ambient sound preferred.
These were the non-train ones I like:

>expanding the thread to more of a Japan webcam general.
As long as these are public CCTV feeds, I'm game. I don't want "pro-content." I want the realness.
>>16806347
This was the main candidate for the new train station webcam.
The problems I think were its pitch black at night, its really slow like it a rural non-main station.

The current sunrise is quite pretty.
>>16806361

Sunrise is usually nice and pretty yeah.
>>16806307
I'd love to have Aizu-Wakamatsu representation in the team, but it's never got the necessary amount of votes in the polls we've done. Next poll should happen before the Summer Cup, which will probably be in August, so keep an eye out for banners around then.
Regardless even if doesn't make it as a player, it'd be nice to have it represented in the team as a kit or something.
>>16806438
>polls
We've had polls? How would I find the next poll?
And are you the manager? If so, how did you find this post so fast and good job getting to the QF shame about the PSO.
>Regardless even if doesn't make it as a player, it'd be nice to have it represented in the team as a kit or something.
That would be very nice but like I alluded to its not a big deal. Its just I thought it would be nice as a 4cc fan and given how long we've had these threads (since 2009ish).
>>16806470
Last poll we had was before Autumn 16. We purchased self-serve ads to avoid having to make threads and getting them deleted, so if you use adblock you may not have seen it. We also post links to it on the team's wiki page.
>And are you the manager? If so, how did you find this post so fast
Yeah, I'm one of the managers. I spend most of the day here and check out most threads that are not generals.
>and good job getting to the QF shame about the PSO.
Thanks! Winter was a very fun cup, I loved the /vp/ match.
If you want to talk more about the team, you can email [email protected]. It's always nice to talk with fans but I wouldn't want to derail the thread.
I'll miss the stream.

I still can't believe it's over. I did not follow it all the time but the "experience" spanned for multiple years. I actually started before moving to Japan and now I live here. It's like a stage of my life is gone with the stream.
Thats a shame. One of the first webm's I saved from 4chan was from this thread. Thanks to all those who contributed.
>>16806380
So is this one dark at night? Because it's really pretty and would be a shame if we didn't go with this but eruofags need something to look at in their time zone
Good night, sweet prince.
This station, and these streams, were experiences I've had almost nowhere else. It's upsetting.
I hope we find another station - not to take the place of this one, but one to make new memories with.
Marginally related, but someone posted in the final thread about a stream of a temple/shrine.

It's just a remnant of when /jp/ watched a multitude of streams, like with schools and shit.

Where'd the school streams go anyway?
Some guy taking pics of the train
Are you folks Japanese rail fans? I was just watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSxEjf9TfQE
I love the way Japanese rail looks like through videos. This is my first time visiting /jp/ and I didn't realize there'd be a rail thread here.
I'd love to visit there someday. It would be great to work there, but it is unlikely that I would be able to find a job there as an American.
I've finally got round to watching a stream I found a few days ago: Yunokami-Onsen Station
http://www.shimogo-live.jp/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yunokami-Onsen_Station
This is actually just down the line from our old Aizu-Wakamatsu station, but unfortunately the trains terminate a couple of stations before Aizu. I think it's a nice station, but like Bessho, it's very slow, with a train roughly every 30 minutes or so. It's a constant stream with decent quality, but no sound. It also gets very dark at nights. The trees alongside the tracks are apparently cherry, so it might be worthwhile dropping by during sakura season for the view, but I think Bessho is a better stream.
>>16809042
That is an excellent find! Thanks for sharing.
I'd agree to make this one of the new cameras.
Because of this stream I've been streaming some densha de go every now and then. No commenting or stupid jokes, just some good old trains. I'd invite you guys over but I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing you'd enjoy.

More than you'd think.
>>16832119
>the ongoing decline
A sad fact is that most things outside of the Tokaido Corridor is in decline, and even then the country as a whole is seeing slight population decline in recent years.
My favourite part of Japan is the back-country, since it resembles the quaintness of where I grew up, and has lots of natural beauty. One day I'd just love to get into a train, and ride through the countryside or up north around Hokkaido (which alone is twice the size of the country I live in now). I can't count how many hours I've spent on Google Earth just plucking down the streetview in some random area out in the boonies, and just exploring around, amazed by the natural beauty of the mountains or the fields or the rivers.
Anyway, I don't definitely want to say the shutdown of the webcam is because of the decline in daily ridership, but if it is I worry about the future of the railways. How much longer until more and more lines start getting discontinued because no one rides them, or it's just impractical to keep them going? That'd be really sad.
>>16832218
Explain?
My understanding is alot of the foreigners are from other Asian countries so you can't really tell. its not the stereotypical whites / blacks.
>>16832303
There are a lot of foreigners in Japan these days.
A lot.
Specially in industrial and high populated areas.
>>16832303
If you can't pick apart a natural Chinese and Korean from a Japanese, or any SEAsian, you best get out more. But there are more and more whites and blacks in Tokyo every year. If you just look at any video taken in Shibuya, Roppongi or even Shinjuku, basically near any major area you'll see a bunch of blacks or darker skinned in the background, along with whites every now and then. There's a growing Brazillian community in Japan as well.
>>16832391
>>16832322
Yeah Tokyo (Shibuya, Roppongi Shinjuku), I can understand since its a "global" "cosmopolitan" city. Are they permanent residents / citizens there though? I though long-term residency in Japan was supposedly hard.
>>16832491
A permanent visa is harder than a lot of western countries but not impossible, it mostly involves staying for a long time on another visa (often a spouse visa) in the first place. Not many people want citizenship since the requirements are steeper and it's (in theory if not practice) exclusive.
Also Shibuya and Roppongi (and Akiba) have more foreigners comparatively, but they're not at all representative of the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, not to mention the rest of Japan.
>>16832136
rare!
>>16832322
I hardly meet any foreigners here who are real otaku. Often it's just people who are like "yeah I love anime like bleach and that other one I forgot the name of!" or whatever. Either that or people with no interest whatsoever.
I don't know why anyone would choose to live here if they weren't into 2D and didn't have a major Japanese girl/boy fetish.

I'd bet that 80% of the foreigners who live in Japan do it because they love the country as a whole, or just for good business oportunities.
I'm not an otaku and I'd love to move there to work.

I'm having such a hard time believing the stream has come to an end. How long have these threads been going on for again? I swear I remember seeing them in 2009 or early 2010, maybe earlier. My memory is bad now. There was something comforting in seeing the same station everyday though. It was another day as usual. Even if things weren't going so well elsewhere, Aizu was always here. Let's continue its legacy with new streams and making new fond memories to look back on.
>>16878827
I'm new to this thread in special, only one year or so. Even though I've been so long in this shithole as a whole, I'm thankful for this little oasis.

While I'm glad there's been a number of new streams posted in this thread, what we need to do is come to a consensus on what the new "main" one will be, the one actually replacing our dear old friend.

It'd be very hard making a final decision like that, if not impossible. Maybe just a stream general would work and the opening image could vary from thread to thread?

Rest in peace Aizu-Wakamatsu camera.
I might visit the Aizuwakamatsu station again in about a week and half. I'll let you know if the camera is still in the window or if it has been removed.

>>16890438
>fuck the jap salary women sometimes
I wish I could,. All the time too.
But why do you want to fuck them? It is my understanding that outside rush hour, train density is quite low and comfortable.
>>16890438
Yeah, their average adult life is not very glamorous. I do not envy the salary life at all. What's even worse is if you're a temp or unstable part time worker with little to no training or education. I think Japan is one of the worst modern countries to be financially unstable in. Also, their future economic outlook is not making anything look better. It seems like Japan is slowly sinking from the economic world leader it once was.
>>16891708
>I think Japan is one of the worst modern countries to be financially unstable in
I don't know, the US and UK sure take the cake for that in terms of modern countries. There aren't many places I'd want to be poor in, but from what I've experienced in Japan as a student on exchange, I'd definitely prefer being unstable in Japan than anywhere else without a proper welfare system.
>>16891779
I think their good welfare system counterbalances the difficulty of finding any additional part time labor (I don't say this from experience, just perception).
Then again, many NEETs are capable of living off both of their parent's pensions. (2 pensions can support 3 people supposedly) so you're right about welfare making it much easier on the poor.
I feel as if in the US you can pick up work easily for around 70-100USD a day if you can into physical labor
Not Japanese, but the Ffestiniog Railway in the UK has 3 webcams set up.
http://www.festrail.co.uk/webcam.htm
>>16891848
>the difficulty of finding any additional part time labor
I mean the official figures show there's more jobs than people in Japan right now, but it might be skewed a bit. There's always a バイト available for anyone.
>>16891779
>>16891848
Well, currently there should have enough part time job vacation available in Japan, to a point that certain convenience store chain owner claimed that they have difficulty in finding part time workers for their shop.
But on the other hand I don't think their welfare system is something that can be described as great. Iirc during the financial crisis time a few years ago, there're people that get literally starved to death in Japan
>>16892154
>>16892287
interesting. I've always had an interest in how the native less educated young demographic manages to live in Japan. Specifically, independent individuals past high school that have chosen not to pursue higher education. I suppose this is a demographic minority though because of social pressure or the easier route of NEET

A lot of high school graduates who do not pursue college end up going to work in construction.
Part time バイト is really fucking hard to live off of anywhere near the big cities if you don't have family to support you. It's basically working and still being below poverty line.
>>16892432
>It's basically working and still being below poverty line.
I see. So it's a difficult path to take unless you have some niche job lined up. Seems like higher ed. is the only sane option over there for a stable income.
Even well paying construction requires some higher level specialization/training
I have just read a Japanese report that said some workers are demonstrating that the government shall raise the minimum wage to 1500 Yen per hour. Many people think that is unrealistically high. However a comment said that a 1500 Yen/hour job is high-paying, but if you multiply that by 8 hours a day and 20 days a month, 240k Yen/month seems pretty normal, and if you multiply it by 12, 2.88M Yen/year seems poorly low, and another commentor pointed out that such conceptual difference is because of overtime compensation and yearly bonus, which normal workers have already get accustomed to as part of their salary but part time workers does not enjoy. Other commemtors also pointed out that 1000 yen/hour might seems sufficient for a high school student but 1500 is about the minimal level that can support the life of an adult in society
>>16892811
It really depends if you live in a small town with low rents and general cost of livings or in tokyo. 1500 sounds really average for a major city

>now discontinued
Why?
I like this stream.
But if you blink you miss everything.
>>16891380
Maybe I've just been unlucky since I have to go from outside the city to into, but I always get super crammed
>>16891380
They're pretty dickish when it comes to lines. As long as they get on, they don't give a fuck about personal space or anything else, they're just trying to get from point a to b and not miss their transfer line or waste time

Yeah it was organic as far as I'm aware.
Basically before the /jp/-/a/ split, old school /a/ used to have live webcam threads, nicodouga threads and of course 2hu threads. And from the webcam threads this Aizu camera was the most prominent and so when the other cameras died and after the 2 boards split, this Aizu cam eventually and organically got its own thread - and became dedicated over time with more and more regular posters. All the more reason its so sad this has ended. Literally /jp/ history with old school /a/ roots. Plus I think the fact that densha otakudom is the most "dangerous" and stereotypical had something to do with it. Pic related.
At least this is my hazy combined recollection and understanding of this history.
>>16890559
Its run by the prefecture for tourism purposes right? So when number of visitors go down and they consider their attempts to be not working maybe they pulled the plug?
>>16899023
Why is B'z in a category of its own?
>>16899023
Why's it the most dangerous?
Is it "physically" dangerous, or just so esoteric that it's limiting?
>>16899106
The wind pushed it there.
>>16899023
I'm guessing that politics mostly refers to netouyo
If we're talking about Nate Silver-type data freaks, I'd stick them right above love otaku, since they can appear rational enough to gain widespread acceptance by media but be crazy enough to believe that their models can routinely predict election results
>>16900474
Japanese train otaku generally have a reputation for being some of the most socially incompetent individuals out there with character traits resembling borderline autism spectrum disorders
Watch the first episode of tetsuko no tabi for a better depiction of the stereotype. Remember - he's 40 years young:

>Japanese train otaku generally have a reputation for being some of the most socially incompetent individuals out there with character traits resembling borderline autism spectrum disorders
Stereotypes are bad anon. All otaku have their group of socially incompetent individuals with character traits resembling borderline autism.
The guy who organizes/runs the Tadami-sen viewing/drinking trips rides the line over 100 times a year, keeps handwritten notes of the trains, has massive printed books of all the train schedules in the prefecture but doesn't fit that stereotype at all.
>>16901345
I was more trying to explain why train otaku are placed the way they are on the chart in >>16899023, rather than justify the underlying stereotypes
You are right, stereotypes aren't reflective of reality and I didn't mean to imply that.
I fully stand by my comments on politics otaku though, which are based on personal experience and 110% true

Pretty damn dark this one for sure. Gotta keep an eye on this stream though. Seems like a comfy place during daytime.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sswP80jHi4M
The view is amazing right now.
>>16863222
Great article. I read it a few days ago and today I finally found some time to go on a little adventure to an obscure place of my own. Not quite as magical as the one in the article though, I don't have any interesting stories to tell. I do however recommend that people get out and try this for themselves in their local area.
>>16893938
Which stream is this?
>>16907175
This seems like a great idea. There is a secluded small station in the town that I live. Trains only pass by and don't stop from what I hear. Looking at google maps it seems like I have to walk for nearly an hour there, but why the fuck not. As soon as there is a day with good weather, I'll go. Thanks for this idea.
Now this is something I wonder, the people who come to these threads are train enthusiasts or people who enjoy the cozy feeling of those cameras?
>>16908652
Probably both, maybe more of the latter. You might find more of the former on /n/, but I do think there are a few in these threads that are train enthusiasts.
>>16908705
I asked that because there are other cameras that offer a lot of nice possibilities, but very few that are train related, such as https://youtu.be/lV_MlgflbHE
>>16908652
I'm not really into trains THAT much, but I find smaller trains that go around the countryside to be very charming. The comfy feelings that I get from the cams is why I tune in from time to time primarily, but having some trains around adds a very special atmosphere. You almost start to wait for a train to arrive after some time. When it comes, there is an odd sense of excitement.
>>16908652
I came here because I love trains a lot.
>>16907249
see
>>16809042
95% of the time you'll just be seeing the nice scenery though.
We really need a new stream.
Something where we can see cute schoolgirls would be ideal.
If it has a nice view, that would be even better.
>>16911760
Thanks.
>>16912536
There are tons of live streams up in jewtube put up on several different spots around Japan. I think theres station as well.
>>16908652
The latter for me, but I also have enjoyed picking up on the knowledge of the train experts. I've gained a lot of respect for the old machines as well. The conversations are interesting to follow even if I don't really understand. Fandom is the same no matter what the topic (Bakuon!! comes to mind) so just seeing people passionate about it adds to the whole experience in a way, like looking through a portal into another world and culture.
I wonder when is the last train of the day.
Looks pretty before they turn all the lights off.
>>16913880
Could be the last train/s in most stations for the day. What a momentous occasion!
>>16806130
>now discontinued Aizu-Wakamatsu station stream

Beautiful station but it's just not the same without being able to see the hustle of Salarymen and students.
>>16916205

>>16916211

Google Earth. It was updated recently and the 3D visualization is beautiful.
I would suggest the threads to continue having the Aizu name, in remembrance and waiting for it to maybe come back one day, with following new cameras now. Mostly maybe >>16916328 and >>16916251

>>16922343
This happens to me too, with ffplay.
>>16922367
How do you use FFPLAY for this? Used FFplay on the Aizu stream but I just scripted baby off some other kind anon.
>>16922343
same thing happens to me, using rtmpdump into cvlc. it must just be the server.
>>16923320
It is as simple as entering "ffplay rtmpt://114.160.7.45/livepkgr/live-cam003" in to the terminal.
>>16924712
That lighting looks really nice.
>>16924487
