>>16799519
I think you misunderstood that whole chapter. IIRC, it was an ordinary MP3 player, and as he was examining it, deep in thought, he got spirited away to the outside world. Yukari then grabbed him and pulled him back, then took the player, probably to prevent him getting into any more trouble with it, but with the excuse that she wanted it because it was a fashionable item in the outside world or something. As usual for Kourin, he didn't really know what was going on, and since all of CoLA is told through his unreliable perspective, the chapter might have come across as a bit confusing on your first read.

>>16799602
I don't think the liver thing is canon; it was mentioned in some dialogue as a legend or something, but it's probably not true, since the Hourai Elixir works through magic, not chemicals.

Also, it's not like just anyone can make the Elixir; I'm pretty sure Eirin was the only one able to do it.
>>
What are sanae ten desires
>>
>>16799602
"Man made" is a pretty big stretch. The Hourai Elixir could only be made with Eirin's brilliance and Kaguya's power to manipulate eternity.

The liver thing is based on an old legend about eating a mermaid's liver so it might not apply, but either way you'd have to incapacitate one of the Hourai for long enough to do it. None of the humans who fought Mokou were truly interested in the end.

If you think about it, Kaguya can "kill" other Hourai drinkers - she can somehow completely destroy them, and then use her eternity power to completely lock them in the dead state before the come back. But then there's a chance that whoever she killed will just become a soul forever without a body, and she'd probably be lonely without another Hourai person to keep company with.

From the wiki translation of CoLR chapter 1

"Those who use the Hourai Elixir take on the same taint as humans. I knew that even if Kaguya could return to the lunar capital, she couldn't live a normal life. I decided I would atone for my sin by helping find a place on Earth where she could live an easy life as a human. "

Seems like the elixer itself makes one impure somehow and while the drinker is likely too immortal to care, the other lunarians are not.
>>
>>16801484
Hourai elixir is ultimate immortality, no backsies!
>>
>>16799409

Given how complete the protections of the hourai elixer are, and tgat it completly removes the very idea that the drinker can die from the target, the elixer very likely makes death and depowerment by faithlessness impossible in the same way Mokou cannot simply starve to death.

There's also the unanswered question of how Eirin and the other celestial gods lived in the times before humans, as Eirin is so unfathomably old (assuming her claims are true)that the duration of hunanities existance actually has to be taken into account.

"Complete destruction results in complete restoration" as the wiki puts it. The elixir is commonly referenced to make the user immortal beyond physical damage as the soul regrows lost flesh, and the soul unable to be altered or maniplulated leaving it immune to Yuyukos power and similar abilities. As such, a simple destruction power cannot hope to break it.
>>
>>16801975
>Seems like the elixer itself makes one impure somehow

I think it's because taking it means you acknowledge your status as a mortal which makes you impure to the eyes of Lunarians.

To be frank, I still don't fully understand what Lunarians' concept of purity is, and Junko's power complicates things even more.

Has Touhou fandom really reached the point where people think you can kill a Hourai just because "no one's really tried"? No, you fucking can't. Kaguya and Mokou couldn't end each other. Yuyuko can't touch them and is terrified. Junko knows she can't actually kill Chang'e.

Alice says in IN's extra that it renders the soul truly immortal, beyond the limits of a physical body. It is a perfect immortality. Complete destruction results in complete restoration. There is no way to break the soul, and the soul is the core tenant of one's existence in Touhou.
>>
>>16802037

Without going too deep into the "what is lunarians concept of purity rabbit hole" (which I wouldn't even try without a full reread of basically everything involving them and a crash course on shinto concepts of impurity), Junko's power is the other meaning of purify, to remove impurities in the traditional, physical sense (though on a metaphysical level).

It worked to fuck over lunarians not because she generated impurity herself but because she purified fairies, which are spirits of nature and life, and life that ends in death generates the lunarian kind of impurity, so purified that is the lunarians worst nightmare (on top of fairies being difficult to get rid of by force due to not dieing when killed). Junko's power does not seem to directly interact with lunarian impurity at all (though, in theory, might be able to apply to it, not that she would ever help them).
>>
>>16802037
I think the way to think about Junko's power is that she "refines" things to the utmost, so like she could make some chocolate pure chocolate (bitter!)

The concept of purity v impurity is different though, it's like weird philosophical life shit. Anyway when Junko "purified" the fairies she made them SUPER LIFE, which upset Lunarians who deny mortality.
>>
>>16802114
>"refines"
I wish the translators had stuck to that word to describe what Junko does.
>>
>>16802037
The Lunarian concept of purity (kiyome) and impurity (kegare) are distinct from Junko's version of purity.

The former is, as said, the Shinto version...with the addition of some Pure Land stuff from Buddhism.

In Junko's case, it's basically refinement, such as when dealing with metals. It has no relation to the Lunarian version.

Anyway, that which invites kegare, such as death, is bad, bad, bad.

That old trope of a miko or priest sitting under a waterfall meditating, it's one way of cleansing yourself of impurity.

Traditionally, this is why butchers, tanners, undertakers, and such were traditionally discriminated against in Japan (look up Burakumin). Because their line of work deals with death, they were thought to be tainted with kegare.

Would ZUN give this series a penultimate end, or should he keep everything stays the same and happily ever after? Felt like everything is coming to a close in a next few years, with the top dogs of each factions seemed to have shown herself one way or the other and their motives becoming clearer.
How would you end Touhou Project. /jp/?
>>
>>16805433
I really doubt ZUN will go the "galactic war" route with the Lunarians, Hell, Gensokyo, maybe even Heaven all involved.
But since the Lunarians are getting more and more attention, the end is ultimately probably going to involve them. Either they completely destroy Gensokyo, or they are defeated and the Moon colonized.
>>
>>16805433
I wouldn't expect (or want) a conclusion to the series overall. Individual characters' stories, on the other hand, probably. I'll be pretty upset if Scrollery and Hermit don't get real endings, and pretty soon we'll have to see Akyuu go, so with any luck her death will be somewhat significant.

As for larger events, things with the Moon, Hell, and/or the outside world may come to a head in some large-scale incident, but even then I wouldn't expect it to be anything world-ending. That just doesn't seem to fit with the tone of the series so far.
>>
>>16806061
I'm really interested to see how Akyuu's story pans out. Sure, she doesn't have much left to live, but she's actively looking for ways to extend her lifespan. We may get to see her grow desperate and try more and more drastic measures to buy more time.
>>
>>16806107
>she's actively looking for ways to extend her lifespan
Wait, where was that mentioned? It seems like the kind of thing that would have stood out and been memorable, especially because it seems rather out of character for her. I mean, there were nine Children before her who (presumably) lived, did their duty, and died without fuss, and now suddenly she's the one combo breaker who's going to go insane trying to deny her fate and live longer than she's supposed to?

By that logic, you can assume that their soul goes through some sort of transformation when they drink the elixir, right? If you could study that, you could figure out how it works. If you know how it works, it's possible you could find a way to undo it.

I'm not saying it's definite, but it's possible. Even magic has to be governed by some laws.

Keep in mind that the Dragon God's Palace is in the Lunar Capital

As of now, she is THE strongest.

That's not a matter of strength. That's like saying Hecatia is not the strongest because her hair is not red enough.

All this talk about Lunarians and LoLK and shit has got me curious. I wonder what would happen if the heroines of LoLK(e.g. Reimu etc.)decided to sit back and do nothing? What kind of defenses, aside from moon rabbits, Yorihime and Toyohime do moonbitches have? Presumably the greatest damage instilled by any attack would be the impurity it wrought, but would they be able to repel the invaders by themselves, at least? How would the battle turn out?

Like what? Western Gensokyo featuring a Catholic nun and totally-not-a Marisa clone and instead of eastern mythology it focuses on a Cold War between the Abrahamic faiths while a bunch of dead gods try to stay relevant in the cross fire?
>>
>>16808549
Anon, Gensokyo started out in 1885. If you want the FULL lore of the Touhou universe, even the TL;DR would be too long to read.
The music cases tell a story too.
>>
>>16808549
Japanese mythological beings forgotten by the advances of the scientific world have retreated into a pocket dimension along with a number of humans whose job is to keep the faith. These beings (and mostly girls), thrive on the conflict that underpins their existence, but conflict is generally bad for people, so conflicts have been ritualized into "incidents" where they mess things up and (mostly) humans resolve these incidents through "spell card battle."

The games are about the incidents; the other work (music CD stories included) are about the non-incidents. I don't think it gets shorter than that.
>>
>>16808549
Japanese folktale monsters and deities used to roam freely across the land. Then, after the world started modernizing, Yukari and some other powerful beings created the Great Hakurei Barrier to keep a little pocket dimension where youkai could still exist. They also have some humans in the village to supply faith and fear. And now it's a little fantasy land with some incidents now and then, which are solved peacefully through spell card battles.
The Lunarians are starting to get more involved in Gensokyo's affairs, though.
>>
>>16808014
It would have been worse if the heroines did nothing about LoLK, because the Lunarians would have carried out their invasion plans and gone into Gensokyo to run from the fairies.

The recent Memories of Phantasm ep got me thinking back on IN's story, and I realized that I couldn't recall one detail at all. I brushed up on the stories on the wiki, but I can't find any explanation for how Magic Team extended the night. Border Team has Yukari manipulating day and night like in the MoP episode, SD Team has Sakuya's time magic, and Netherworld Team's story briefly handwaves it as Yuyuko's doing without going into any detail, but it's not even mentioned with Magic Team besides the usual unchanging dialogue of Kaguya accusing the heroines of it during the final battle. It doesn't really seem like the type of feat either Marisa or Alice would know how to pull off, Marisa likes her magic flashy and effective at pummeling other people in fights, and Alice is devoted to puppetry magic which in turn is related to her research into the creation of artificial life. So what's the deal, is it just a hiccup of IN's story setup (and maybe a hint at a possible 'canon' story route) or what?

Where do Gensokyo's Western-style clothes come from? Japanese clothing is traditionally made with shit like hemp, linen or silk. Yet there are scarves and gloves and other such garments that are obviously made from wool or cotton, which we have never seen actually existing within the border. Is it magically produced? Does it enter from the outside world?
>>
>>16810744
>>16810844
Eirin is talking about the use of magic itself, not specifically however they stopped the night. "A power from the time before humans" is rather just talking about powers used by the gods in that time, which I guess is supposed to be magic in general.

If Eirin knew the protagonists were stopping the night at that point, she'd have actually done something about it instead of escaping, since all she wanted at that point was for day to break.

>>16810885
Alice bringing grimoires to Marisa was her bargaining tool, specifically because humans wouldn't usually be able to obtain them.

Really, it isn't important as to how specifically anyone stopped the night. It's just something that they did, somehow. ZUN avoids talking about it entirely by intentionally making all references back to the details of the Eternal Night Incident incredibly sketchy and ambiguous. The protagonists don't want to be the ones labeled as those who stopped the night (which was what most people cared about) so they dance around the subject, but also all claim that they helped resolve the incident. By doing so we'll obviously never get any more details about it.
>>
Actually, who the fuck cares if there isn't a explanation of how either Ghost or Magic teams stopped the night?
Neither of these routes are canon.
The canon route is BT's, and even if you wanna argue that the ST's route could be canon, it already has explanation anyways.
>>
>>16811726
Its either the Human Village is actually a Human County but no incidents have ever take place in a farms, or it cames from the Youkais, who are more knowlegeable and can came in contact with those who wears it from the outside. If Gensokyo is sealed in late `19th century, mentions of western clothing and techniques could have carried over somewhat, and it still comes down altough in small amounts through things spirited away.

All of those who wears eccentric clothings are all important characters with supernaturall powers tho. The rest of the humans are no faced kimono wearing nips

In all likelyhood the amount of life on the moon would have reached the point where the moon as a whole became impure, making it unsuitable for lunarians with no immediate metod to remedy it.

I imagine if the lunarians had the means to remove Clownpiece and friends safely they would have, but putting a fairy down for any legnth of time at long range would be problematic (shooting them does nothing but kill them), rabbits are highly unlikely to be able to defeat Clowpiece and lunarians themselves would not what to get anywhere near them, much less try to capture her and throw her off the moon. Even if they did manage to relocate them to elsewhere there's not much stopping Hecatia from bringing them back to the moon.

The issue isn't really that lunarians don't have defences, it's that removing the threat by force is nigh impossible but they can't ignore it either. If Junko had decided to say "fuck you" to the protag and didn't leave there's not much that anyone could have done about it unless Junko's power is undone with her destruction.

True, not all supernatural phenomenon is magic (the Faith based abilities of divine beings and youkai seem to be something else all together, and don't get me started on Sumireko's ESP), but there's no reason to assume that Mokou's fire isn't magic in origin, especially seeing as she doesn't seem to draw power from faith like youkai or gods.

>Sanae is the canon ending of UFO because hers is the only ending which results in Myouren Shrine being constructed,
Actually multiple endings at least allude to it. Not to mention all endings in a majority of the games are typically used to establish relevant canon information, regardless of if the route and its ending are actually the canon ones or not (which is to say, simply, that endings tend not to lie). And ZUN already confirmed Marisa B's ending was the canon one in UFO, which makes sense as it leads directly into Extra.

From what I get is that she already shown her miracle ability in the outside world, but not too exposed and more like a local rural celebrity and all that, before moving to Gensokyo to save Suwako, right?

Given her soku ending and treatment in the manga It's probably a voluntary thing at this point. It's not like she lacks the ability or willingness to do so, but with the current state of affairs has other things to do, and her role as an active agent is more valuable to the shrine than doing all the stuff that godhood entails.

A shoddy ascension is going to undercut Kanako/Suwako and not last for long. Presumably the ropeway factors into this, as it would greatly increase foot traffic -> faith. Once Kanako feels their position is stable enough she could give the go ahead. With all the religious fighting that had been ongoing it likely was put on hold for a bit.

>has nothing to do with dreams anymore
Her only relation to dreams in PC98 was living in the dream world once, but she can clearly leave the place, as seen in MS.
>had nothing to do with flowers before, it is now her core theme
Her shot in MS was flower shot, and she uses flower bullets in the second Seihou game.
>What has been shown or used again, or even alluded to?
Many of her patterns in PoFV are actually very reminiscent of her patterns in LLS.

There's a Lake of Blood. It's just that...

In the PC-98 games the lake is on a mountain behind the Hakurei Shrine, which is tended by a purple-haired girl called Hakurei Raymoo and exists in a feudal "eastern land" where no other humans live. Underneath the lake is a portal to "a gensokyo" ruled by a youkai of dreams and reality, a long-haired woman who dwells in the boundary between worlds, and is super-powerful but spends most of her time sleeping (to the point where it takes another stage for her to wake up): Yuuka.

In EoSD, the Hakurei Shrine has no mountains behind it due to being in a hidden realm named Gensokyo, and is tended by a brown-black-haired girl called Hakurei Reimu. It still doesn't have any meaningful human population, but there's a settlement just outside Gensokyo and the barrier doesn't stop things from passing through it, so Reimu is worried that the humans there will see Remilia's scarlet mist.

Then this was retconned again in PCB, where ZUN introduced a youkai of dreams and reality, a long-haired woman who dwells in the boundary between worlds, and is super-powerful but spends most of her time sleeping (to the point where it takes another stage for her to wake up): Yukari Yakumo. Yukari came about partly to set up a partner for Reimu in IN, and partly as a vehicle for worldbuilding. The PC-98 games had very little continuity or coherency, but through Yukari he began establishing rules about the setting, including how Gensokyo exists in the modern day but is sealed off from the world, and has a small city's worth of humans living there.

Later in PoFV he brought in a character named Yuuka Kazami, who had Yuuka's personality and a similar design (minus the long hair) but a completely different place in the world (being a flower youkai who lived in a random field).

Still later, the Lake of Blood showed up again. In Former Hell, where it has no association with either of the characters that Yuuka was split into (and they're not even allowed to go there). Recently it was mentioned that the original inhabitants of Hell put it there in case they got thirsty.
>>
>>16821100
I'm going to need you to back up any of that, aside from the obvious like Yuuka sleeping a lot. I can't find any reference to the dream world being refered to as gensokyo, while I did find reference to a "human village" all the way back in HRtP.

>Her only relation to dreams in PC98 was living in the dream world once, but she can clearly leave the place, as seen in MS.
That doesn't matter. You're missing the point that it's never even alluded to ever again. It isn't included in the setting after LLS, for the simple reason that ZUN just made up what he wanted for the one game, for fun. The fact that Yuuka has a significant deal of modern content while never referring to any of this stuff again is important.
>Her shot in MS was flower shot
Whether a single word in the manual was inspiration or not for her redesign, or if he wanted to go in that direction anyways, doesn't change that it wasn't an important part of the setting. There's just as much relevance to the setting as there is with her holding a wand in her bomb portrait.
>second Seihou game
By the time Kioh Gyoku happened (late 2001) he probably already had a better idea of what to do with the character even while ignoring her shot type, so I'm not talking about Seihou. It's much closer to EoSD mentality than PC-98.
>patterns
Just like essentially every other small nod to PC-98, they're just that. It's cute that ZUN used the straight-then-rotate pattern again, just like how it's cute that Byakuren uses Shinki's pattern. It doesn't mean anything besides being a nod.

>>16821588
They're obviously semi-joking and are just talking about how ZUN has evolved the series over time.

Jesus fuck anon I'm sure I had this conversation just like two weeks ago, this is super wrong.

>>16821901
I think you're getting too hung up on how Yuuka was originally found in the dream world, when in the very next game her origins are hardly discussed at all, and like in the modern era what is treated as being important is her status as an ancient and powerful youkai.
Besides, even some of her patterns in LLS had a sort of flower like anesthetic to them. It wouldn't shock me if that was something that ZUN had in mind while designing the character. I mean, it's not like we had character profiles to flesh bosses out, as such all we even have to go off of for LLS Yuuka is her pre-fight dialogue, which doesn't lend itself very well to establishing such things as having a flower theme. I mean ZUN could have done it if he really wanted to, but I think he wanted to focus on establishing Yuuka as a legitimate threat first, and explain her motives.

Not an offensive power, especially after the implication that she struggles to move people around during stopped time.

And the answer is danmaku rules.
>>
>>16822990
She can't just delete matter, at least nothing indicates this.
But she should be able to age her opponent instantly killing them(or most of them), but there's no reason to do this because they're playing by the spellcard rules.
>>
>>16823370
We've only seen her age inanimate objects, and since her magic follows arbitrary rules in other regards, it's not unfair to assume that she can't do that to a moving target.

In one of the endings of IN, Eirin goes to the Netherworld and Yuyuko tries to kill her by sneaking poison into her tea. Eirin notices the poison, and tells Yuyuko that she drank the Hourai Elixir so it wouldn't have worked anyway.

Can anybody explain fucking Junko and Chang'e's backstory to me? From what I understand a dude named Hou Yi shot down 9 suns, and Junko was his wife, but someone her son was killed, and now she wants to kill Chang'e who is also Hou Yi's wife? I guess Hou Yi is dead or out of the picture somehow.
>>
>>16821938
Again, take a step back here; the context is that somebody asked "if PC-98 Yuuka is canon" and "retains her old powers", followed by a claim that it's canon unless something later contradicts it (which is also a misquote). "The recent works take precedence" is how ZUN furthers his writing. He doesn't go back and outright say X isn't true anymore, he writes over it and/or simply abandons it forever, leaving the new stuff to wash it over naturally.

What are "her old powers"? Are they the spark, cloning, etc? Because these haven't even been hinted at again. And what does it mean for "PC-98 Yuuka" to be canon if not just the list of things that only showed up in PC-98? You say I'm getting hung up, but it's the opposite. This isn't a contest where we find as many little scraps that are referenced in the modern setting; those aren't important elements, it isn't the focus. I say Yuuka's character setting was wiped clean exactly because so many of the elements people would say relate to "PC-98 Yuuka" are not talked about anymore, while elements that modern Yuuka shares with PC-98 Yuuka are those basic things like design, aesthetic, and personality that just makes up "Yuuka" herself.

He only brought over what he brought over; nothing points to the effect that any of the rest surrounding PC-98 Yuuka's existence is part of the modern setting, while instead adding new information on top. It would be one thing if the few things established in the PC-98 setting were talked about just as concretely and evidently as the fact that Yuuka herself exists, but they don't. They're avoided. Rather throwing around phrases like "he never said they don't exist", people should ask themselves why they even need to resort to that kind of argument to begin with.
>>
>>16823393
Or you could do the sensible thing and not assume powers that haven't been shown.

>>16823481
They just explained exactly why it was a misconception, and that "can't physically enter Netherworld" is simply wrong. Can't tell if joke reply or daft.
>>
>>16826202
It's kind of complex and I don't fully grasp it either, but as I understand it,
-Junko married Houyi and had a child with him
-Houyi cheated on Junko with Chang'e, a lunarian princess and leader of all moon rabbits, and abandoned the former
-At some point later on, Houyi decided to shoot down nine of the ten then-existing suns (shit was hot, apparently)
-One of them fell on Junko's child, creating the fury that would envelop her
-Junko did suceed in killing Houyi, but being nothing than pure anger now, decided to switch targets to Chang'e to keep herself going
-Meanwhile, Chang'e is imprisoned in her own kingdom due to having drank the Hourai Elixir
-It's never explained how, but at some point Junko meets with Hecatia, who decides to help her on her quest since Houyi shot down some suns that Hell needed (though I'm pretty sure it's said somewhere that she just says that, and the true reason is that Hecatia just wanted to help her new friend)
-And that's most likely how she's even on the Moon to begin with

Is it ever establish what kind of Youkai, Meiling is?

I'm not asking for exact, but maybe a close comparison in power of abilities?

Otherwise, she seems like a normal human and it doesn't help that a human within the Manson can kick her ass.
>>
>>16827270
She's just a generic youkai, like Yukari or Yuuka.
>>
>>16827285
Yukari can manipulate boundaries, and Yuuka if I remember correctly, can manipulate flower and was able to learn magic.

All Meiling can do is... guard gates? It just seems that all Youkai can do something, while Meiling is kinda useless.
>>
>>16827317
Meiling can manipulate chi or something.
>>
>>16816596
source?
>>
>>16827354
But can't ever Martial Artist manipulate Chi?

I really like Meiling, her design and personality is really enjoyable and it allows for unique or more importantly funny, interactions with the rest of the cast.

It just feels like she should just been a human character like Sakuya, because she basically has no powers to speak of, and her being a Youkai doesn't really add much.
>>
>>16827317
Half of her IAMP/Soku comedy was the fact that she's a physically orientated and trained youkai in a world where that means almost nothing at all.

If spellcard dueling was passe she would be much more impressive.
>>
>>16827361
Reimu is the main character.
>>
>>16827403
I agree, she's bland as far as powers go, but if they made her human like Sakuya it would have invalidated how special Sakuya is for being a human at the SDM, which is probably why Meiling was made a generic-type Youkai.
And we don't really have other martial artists to compare to her, so we don't know if chi manipulation can be learned, or if it really is an innate talent. The closest we have is probably, I don't know, Byakuren? And of course her martial arts power is derrived from magically enhancing her body.
>>
>>16827236
>Chang'e is imprisoned in her own kingdom due to having drank the Hourai Elixir

Wait wait wait, I'm not that dude and I was already aware of the whole Chang'e story, but I don't recall anything about her drinking the Hourai Elixir. Where did you get that from?
>>
>>16827403
>her being a Youkai doesn't really add much.

Being a Youkai basically means she has super strength and can't be physically killed, which are MAJOR bonus for an already incredible martial artist. Like >>16827406 said though, the point/joke of Meiling is that she exists in a setting where being super physically powerful is near pointless.
>>
>>16829057
I'm the original dude who asked and Chang'e was the original drinker of the Hourai Elixer, I believe before Eiren made the batch which she, Kaguya, and Mokou drank. Drinking the elixer is why she's imprisoned on the moon, and why her rabbits pound mochi all day; to attempt to recreate the elixer.
>>
>>16829070
I guess, it that makes sense. The only other question about Meiling is, how strong is she compared to the Oni's of the series?

The Oni's are extremely physically powerful Youkai, and can mostly get by with just their sheer strength. Could Meiling fight or hold them off? Or she also too weak for them?
>>
>>16829829
Well, that's up to your imagination man. The oni are definitely physically stronger, since they're basically the Youkai of physical strength and power, but Meiling has martial arts and everyone knows a weaker dude can beat a stronger dude with the right technique. Since we've never seen the onis or Meiling (or anyone for that matter) actually fight seriously though, there's no way to accurately judge how much of an advantage in skill Meiling has.

In danmaku eh who cares, anyone can beat anyone in that.
>>
>>16829829
>Could Meiling fight or hold them off? Or she also too weak for them?
Probably not, unless the oni was just goofing around.

Remilia is the kind of person to hire tons of maids who don't do anything, just so that she can brag about having tons of maids. It sounds cruel, but Meiling probably just caught her eye because she was exotic.
>>
>>16827236
>Houyi shot down nine suns, one fell down on Junko's child.
I vaguely remember Yatagarasu's story being something like that:
There were ten three-legged heavenly crows, which used to eat some tree's branch of immortality or something like that, down here on Earth. Sometimes they would all come at the same time so Earth would get too hot.
So Houyi shot down nine of the ten three-legged crows. The one that survived was Yatagarasu.
>>
>>16829829
MeiLing is able to keep up with an oni, but it's more speed vs strength.
>>
>>16829941
Yatagarasu didn't survive, the sun that survived is supposed to be the one that's floating in the sky right now, i mean, there's a reason Okuu was able to gain Yatagarasu's powers despite the story never mentioning Yatagarasu's thoughts on the manner.
>>
>>16829962
Okuu is portable shrine for Yatagarasu.
>>
>>16827403
Meiling is filler, like Elly before her. She's just a youkai working for a youkai.
>>
>>16829829
Canonically speaking, Meiling has no feats that would put her near Oni. It is a fan work, but the scene from burning Meiling where Meiling is whaling on Yuugi, while Yuugi just stands there smiling, is probably an accurate representation of what would happen.

It's literally the origin story of the elixir. Chang'e was introduced specifically as the figure who drank the elixir in the context of the various stories about it.
>>
>>16829941
The yatagarasu involved in this story does not refer to the same god Yatagarasu, which is probably why the term "Yatagarasu" isn't used in the context of Junko's story. The yatagarasu is just a common thematic element representing the sun in all kinds of stories.
