I don't see why not. It is imperative that I gather more information on the two and their relationship. I've speculated and continue to do more historical research and I come up with various conclusions resulting in both being better and worse than the other in different fields.

I am not able to give any clear examples or link historically to how they would act toward each other if that situation arose in a series.

Battleship girls are confusingly underrated. You would think that historically famous pride of the nation ships like the Yamato class and other big battleships would have tons more fan art.

But instead they are all pedophiles that like snotty nosed boring destroyer children. Ugh. Nothing wrong with sexualizing children and all but I don't find the characters very attractive or interesting. The destroyers all kinda look the same.

Honestly, at this point my characterization of most characters is dictated by their fanwork. Since Kantai Collection doesn't exactly have a wealth of characterization I don't even feel bad about it.

Most people believe they are actually the warships. The anime would have been a lot more interesting if it focused more on historic eccentricies between the girls but alas, it was just about a group of plain looking kid destroyers trying to be better at their craft. Never heard that plot before...
