I prefer left-side Alice, if only for the fact that I hate generic, anime/manga non-personalities like the ones on the right. The design on the left is really good too, looks powerful and is right up my alley since I have a femdom fetish.

However, the Touhou universe according to Zun is whimsical, even when serious matters are dealt with. Mature language and themes never occur, and all the threats of murder and cannibalism are just banter between the girls.

98-Alice is cute as hell. It's a good thing Shinki isn't actually her ma or I'd be looking at some divine punishment.

I don't think the translaters are wrong at all. In the first sentence, Alice says: "邪魔だ、そこをどけ!"

In the end, Alice stills speaks bad of Reimu, but with a more gender neutral word. The translation could be "Idiot! Step aside", though.

"Bitch, get out of the way" is a harsh thing to say, even if used jokingly against a friend. It really sticks out since mature language never occurs otherwise in Touhou, and more recent translations have corrected it to "You, get outta my way!".

Because of that 1 to 1 idea of translation. There aren't really many things in Japanese that would truly translate to curse words in the same way English would use them, so it makes people want to write without them, like everyone is a 5 year old or something.

The opposite of 1 to 1 translation would be localization, and believe it or not, it seems like you're the one here having a hard time fully grasping how that works.

Even if curse words often are used more casually in the English language than in Japanese, the tone and context of the original Japanese dialogue would still have to motivate localization into such harsh, English words as "bitch". We'll get back to that after also explaining this:

You have to understand that there's a big difference between the foul, "casual" language we use here on 4chan and in everyday life, and the kind of "casual" language you see in books, games, movies and other forms of entertainment. Words carry a lot more meaning in the latter cases, and the harsher ones are therefore usually saved either for shock effect, or when we want to set an uncensored, realistic tone. This applies to both English and Japanese.

So: Zun has created Touhou as a whimsical, dark-comedy universe which only gets serious on rare occasions. The B-bomb dropped by Alice and Marisa in IN is clearly an anomaly of translation, as neither the original words in the dialogue, nor the tone of the Touhou universe supports it. As previously stated in this thread, the translation has even been retconned in a more recent version.

Of course there are. You hear such phrases and attitude in anime all the time; Touhou doesn't use these. What doesn't make sense is to take such liberties to introduce profanity when the original phrasing doesn't suggest it. Touhou is not a series that uses extreme language to get a feeling across, not does it have characters whose attitudes are that extreme. It has color; it definitely isn't everyday japanese, but nothing really on that level. It's casual and down-to-earth, even when there is tension or outbursts.

Right is pretty much Alice.

Makes her look a little too cute, but she's friendly and smiles a good amount. She's kind of creepy when holed up in her disturbing doll-filled house, but Alice puts on fucking puppet shows for children and guides lost humans out of the forest/even lets fairies take shelter in her home.

Now, I don't actually like Alice, but I will say she's one of the rarer "nice" Touhous in the series, first introduction in Windows not withstanding (everyone is always aggressive before a danmaku battle except maybe Kogasa). Her tsundere side that has been overblown by the fandom is also supported by canon, just hardly. Marisa also almost never pays attention to Alice, and spends most of her time with Reimu, followed by stealing books, followed by staying home to do experiments and research.
