that pic in the op is from Round 1 Eastridge in San Jose, CA

what happened is:
>turntable grip gets ripped off by bored mexican teens or unattended children, nobody knows which
>bunch of adhesive left on the turntable
>somebody puts paper towels on it so they can still play without their hands sticking to the tt
>someone else rips the paper towels off

they eventually got it cleaned and a new cover installed but this is the same r1 that had a busted sdvx cab for like 5 months cause they couldn't get a new microswitch for one fx button

So I know I bitched and moaned about 42s/43s in Pop'n and how they were "the hardest wall in all of Bemani" some threads ago, but I have recently learned of my foolishness.

I take back what I said about 42s/43s and reapply it unabashedly to 46s. Holy shit, fuck 46s. Easily the hardest wall in all of rhythm gaming. No amount of 45s will prepare you for them. At least with IIDX the transition from hard 11s to easy 12s is pretty seamless. You can have many, many 12s cleared and still not have even 80% of 11s cleared. With Pop'n, I can easily see someone clearing every 45 but not having a single 46.

Pop'n ratings are so fucked, even still with 50. They need to condense 1-20 into like 5 difficulties (cause who's playing those for more than a day or 2?) and spread out the last 10 or so into 25.

inb4 "git gud"

I tried that, now all I have left is bitching and moaning like a faggot.

Are USKOCs really as cheap as people say?
I found a deal for a USKOC with old PS2 games for about $80, but I can't decide whether to pick it up or just save up for a DAO.
>>
>>16592036
which ps2 games are included? you should probably buy that. worse case you could resell it for the same price. kocs are totally fine to learn on, the only thing you'll have to adjust to is scratch distance (just don't get used to reaching 4 while scratching and you'll be fine)

Oh, I wanted to get it for LR2. I don't have much interest in playing the game itself, although I have a friend that might accept it.

You can easily snipe some good one's for cheaper on ebay if you're willing to bid. Not to put pressure on you, but there's a listing with a starting bid of $40, and it ends in 16 hours.

>>16592106
Heads up, if you're going to use it on a PC, make sure to downclock the USB polling rate to 250Hz. There's a design flaw that prevents it from working at anything higher than that. Recently got a US KOC as well and it took me a while to figure that out.

>>16592573
I decided to go with a cheaper deal with just the controller since I don't have a PS2 and any interest in the PS2 games. I might pick up the game separately later if I get the interest; it'd still be cheaper than that deal (although it is still a great deal)
>>
>>16592573
bmus is actually pretty good for the 5key selection and it has a good mix of iidx songs as well

the only big issue is having no anothers
>>
How do I stop sucking at accuracy?
I cleared a handful of 12s but I mostly get A on 11s and AA on 10s.
>>
>>16592661
to time stuff, your skill has to be at a level "above" it to where you can comprehend the notes/patterns 100% and make accurate, decisive hand movements

hope that makes sense

you can clear stuff kinda flailing through it, with less than 100% understanding, but to time you've gotta know exactly what you're supposed to do and do it perfectly

10s are my peak right now and I get B/A on 10s, AA on 9s, and AAA on 7 and below

>>
>>16594429
>did you actually clear all 45s tho?

N-no. I'm sitting at 24% in eclale. But my point remains valid. The 45s I haven't cleared I only ever miss because of some dumb burst of density, or gimmick, or BS ending. None of them are utterly crushing me. Except a few which are obviously misrated 46s or 47s (Empathetic)

Meanwhile, I have cleared only 1 46, which in my opinion is also a misrated 45.

>>16594487
Not bad. Pretty middle of the range 45, nowhere near a 46 though. I couldn't clear it just now but I had to play with the sound off. I can get it.

Oi you diy controller bois and girls
Has anyone tried to use plastidip/other rubber coatings on a turntable?
Seems like it might work, provided it sticks to the turntable
>>
>>16594740

Bad idea. Plastidip will rub off pretty quickly in that application. It was meant to be durable, but easily removable.
>>
>>16594436
This. Gamed hardcore my whole life and never injured my hands.

Start playing IIDX with all the safety measures, like stretching, taking breaks, proper posiitoning and my hands still got fucked anyway. Can't even stop since I spent a lot on my ASC. It's not worth it.
>>
>>16594972
You must fucking suck.
>>
>>16590726
i want to fuck left
>>
>>16594972
if you used proper hand positions then your hands shouldn't have gotten fucked (unless you have really tiny hands).
>>
>>16594972
I can't be the only one who plays iidx hours a day and doesn't have any hand/wrist problems.

osu on the other hand, I had to visit the doctor after excessive play.
>>
>>16594994
The reason most people have wrist problems from IIDX is usually from moving their wrist left and right too much. When instead they should be moving their arm and their wrist should be mostly static.

Also people tend to really tense really hardcore when pushing harder songs. Probably doesn't help their situation. I don't know how osu fucked you up, but I never really played Osu so I don't really know what it involves.
>>
>>16594999
Osu puts serious tension on your hands and wrists, because you're mostly moving only two fingers rapidly with one hand to tap and the other hand is on a drawing tablet usually. Like you said people tense up when trying to clear harder songs. This is very prevalent in osu because songs are usually longer and there's the stress of failing the song and not getting your score posted. It's very taxing especially in songs that require an insane amount of stamina to clear.

Also, nice trips.
>>
>>16594980
>>16594984
>>16594994

I think >>16594999
Nailed it. Playing on my current level (top tier 10s) for hours does nothing. But I'm trying to break into 11s and I'm mashing because I'm not used to th3 increased density.

But I can only beat 11s by playing them. I have no choice but to slowly stop mashing. There's no way to not make my hands hurt.
>>
>>16595071
You need to break whatever bad habit you have that's straining your hands. It shouldn't hurt at all.
>>
>>16595071
Maybe focus on clearing easier 11s/harder 10s with a better score/timing. If you're mashing through 85% of the song you're not really learning much. I forgot who said it on the IIDX discord but you generally shouldn't be getting more than 85 bp on songs you can clear. It's not a golden rule but it's something to consider especially if a majority of songs you are playing, clear or not, have 100+ miss count.

So after warmup maybe consider interweaving the harder stuff with the easy stuff. Like what's your general grading on 9s, 10s, and 11s?
>>
>>16594769
Well shit. I thought I'd finally found the perfect coating.
Do you know if there are coatings that are not meant to be removable, yet provide high friction? Bonus points for transparency/printability.
Right now I'm using a vinyl sticker on an acrylic disc, and it's alright except when my hands get dry. So sweating is actually beneficial with my controller.

Is there someone playing infinitas here? I have a couple of questions that you might be able to answer.
What input does it accept? Can you setup the keys, or does it have some predefined key layout?
Also, what sort of turntable signal does it accept, mouse movement, key presses or something else?
>>
>>16604537
it works with the official controller natively, no idea if the turntable is actually analog or not

if you have a Dao with an updatable PCB there's a keyboard firmware floating around at the sekrit klub

for everything else you have to use joy2key, and the keyboard controls can't be rebinded.

as of a few months ago you couldn't use analog turntable inputs either, and i doubt that's been patched.
>>
>>16604808

hey im not him but can you do two players that both play 1p side ?
>>
>>16604872
idk, i never actually played it. I just watched streams and heard people's grievances. Probably not, though, since that's the kind of feature they'd have to explicitly code for infinitas.
>>
>>16604140
Machines taking e-amusement passes can actually use train passes, IR-enabled wallets or phones, etc. that have IR ID things inside of them and are common in Japan. It doesn't have to actually be an e-amusement pass.

This isn't the same for all of them though. For example Aime or Nesica readers will only take those kinds of cards (as far as I can tell).
>>
>>16605007
>all of them
I mean all kinds of card readers on rhythm game cabs
>>
>>16604808
Hmm, well that sucks. Guess my controller won't support infinitas any time soon...
>>
>>16605079
You using arcin?
>>
>>16604808

>>16605079
here.
It seems infinitas has basically the same turntable as BMS for non-konami controllers or keyboards, i.e. key-based and not "analog"(encoder/mouse). So if you can change the keybindings in your controller, it's easy to play.
Source: http://p.eagate.573.jp/game/eac2dx/infinitas/p/common/info/iidx_howto.html#howto_play_start

Btw, if someone has a dao controller with the newest firmware (1.22), I have some questions about the inner workings of the controller. Would be really nice if you could answer. Well, here goes:
In infinitas mode, what does the turntable do? press keys, move mouse, or something you can't see?
In LR2 mode, how easily does the turntable register? Does it misfire?
And lastly, before infinitas, if you played something else than BMS, did dj dao support mouse movement or something else?
Thank you for all the answers.

>>16605142
Nah, arduino in a diy controller. I'm just wondering if I could make it support infinitas easily. The keyboard way is easy, since I can just remap the keys that the controller presses, it's not a problem. But it would be way better to emulate a real turntable, if only for the accurate lift and stuff.

The official controller does use analog turntable, there are firmwares for both Dao and Arcin to use the real controller mode in Infinitas.

>>16605160
To have Infinitas recognize your controller all you need to do is use the same vendor and product IDs as the official controller.

The VID should be 1CCF and the PID should be 8048.

If you have enough buttons, then why not (8 buttons in 2 rows for 7k, 6 for 5k). Obviously not the same at all, but might be fun. You can bind the joystick to the turntable, assuming it sends keystrokes or you use joy2key or something to convert it to keystrokes.
But keyboard is also viable, especially so in BMS where you have the insane difficulties and such.
I believe you could get decent with the arcade stick, but I would only recommend using it if you tried keyboard and it wasn't fun and you have an arcade stick laying about. Though flicking the joystick for scratches might be quite fun. Especially for scratch-heavy songs.

BTW, has anyone nigger-rigged an upside down mouse to be a turntable? Pic is an artist's representation of such a device.

Anybody know where I can get metal work done? Thinkin' about building my own controller and I ain't usin' none of this pussy wood garbage.

Museca cabs are literally worth as much as Beatstream cabs, that should signify their popularity.

I will agree that I love DanEvo and ParaPara and this guy >>16618131

Point being that you're wrong though, Konami management is bad and a Chuunithm clone is not going to go anywhere

>Just Dance ripoffs
This kind of annoys me for some reason, but Just Dance wasn't even on the Kinect until 3, which came out a year after DanEvo. First dance game on the Kinect was Dance Station and noone cares about that game, and it only beat DanEvo to market by a month. Just Dance was originally a Wii exclusive title and it was absolute dogshit.

Regardless, DanEvo Arcade was very good and fun, what do you have against it?
>>
>>16618761
I have been playing this game for 4 months and I just cleared my first 10 yesterday

Relativistically it is pretty casual, my playstyle and accuracy are dogshit
>>
>>16620626
Machine shop. Will be expensive as fuck though, you better have a friend in the business that you can shower with beer to get him do it for cheap.
Why not just use wood, if you use 1/2" plywood with proper joints you can literally stand on the controller without it breaking it. Should take any punch even you will throw at it.
>>
>From March 2017 onward, BeatStream can be "upgraded" to ノスタルジア (Nostalgia). BeatStream's online service will end on September 1st, 2017.

Now it's explained why Konami made this new game. Gotta recycle those BS cabinets.

How in the hell would a box made out of steel be expensive? Only expensive part would maybe be the laser cutting of holes. Surely a few hundred buck would be enough.

>335 dollars for a steel box

you're getting fucking jewed, and steel will almost certainly rust from your hands unless you use stainless

have them waterjet out a piece with tabs out of 1/8" aluminum, waterjet out the holes for your buttons, throw it into a bend brake with properly spaced fingers, and just mount the bottom piece on standoffs/spaces going all the way through the box.

Then you just wrap the corners with something and you'll be done.

Should cost less than 300, get your own sheet aluminum of mcmaster-carr or grainger supply or something.

Or, you could just not be a fucking autist.

this was my torrent to upload kill yourself
>>
>>16623145

It was for a Pop'n controller so it's both longer and can afford no structural support in the middle. So I figured 1/8" would have some flex to it. And I do plan on painting it so rust shouldn't be an issue.

I spent 50 fucking dollars on an album I don't even fucking like so I could get that bounty. To get nothing for it would make anyone fucking mad.
>>
>>16623263

...then build structural support in the middle? This isn't that hard. Use your fucking brain, if you even have one.

Do the same thing as above but with 36x12x3 final dimensions, then just cut out a bunch of diagonal ribs, bend brake those so that they fit between the buttons and attach them via short L brackets at the top and bottom with countersunk bolts.

Holy shit, this is basic.
>>
>>16623284
FEFEMZ was already dethroned though
>>
>>16623290

Oh yeah, I forgot about all this welding equipment I had lying around, not to mention your complete lack of reading comprehension. The very design of any pop'n ASC will preclude supports in the middle.

Or just use fucking diamond anyway since you're rich.
>>
>>16624130

I do actually have a plan in the meantime. 400 dollars for a box is pretty ludicrous, so before I go that far I've pulled the trigger on building the same thing made of acrylic.

I was astounded at how incredibly strong 3/8th inch acrylic was when I got a sheet I ordered for my "Masterpiece Pop'n ASC" I'm assembling.

Putting it together via edge gluing like so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT6Ow_cBTps.

>>16623967

I didn't actually give your doodle a gander. After doing so however, it just seems such an inelegant solution. Who's bending these ribs? The same metal worker I got the box from? it's still going to need to be shipped. Then I'd need extra hardware, brackets, bolts, a countersinking bit for metal.

Not to mention now wiring the buttons becomes a nightmare as all the wires now need to be fed through these ribs. All can be avoided by just going with a thicker material.

Shut up!
>>
>>16624611
Kek, ain't my doodle. Anyways, acrylic shatters quite easily.
Shoulda gone for polycarbonate, that's what they use for ice hockey barriers. Or
just like
use 1" plywood, if you break it you might want to sign up for the new avengers as the hulk, and then you won' have to

But still, over 1700$...
Get your shit sorted out, faggot
