don't worry anon. if I may say my personal experience as an example, I hated touhou and its guts. it was on that time in life when you face disillusion and think everything is bad. when anime was shitty for one, a glimpse on touhou made it look like from the same cloth. but what gave interest was the variety of fanmade works. I can't say it was the same for everyone, but crossovers was a big part of this, and touhou had crossovers with (almost) everything. you mellowed out, and one day gave it a try.
