Interested myself because I don't hear the latter; although dictionaries seem to give similar definitions, looking at various examples of use cases, it's an issue of transitivity as the verbs suggest. 手に入れる is the actual transitive "to actively obtain/acquire" meaning you're probably already thinking about, while 手に入る is intransitive and more about something (perhaps unintentionally) coming into your possession. You can continue adding cards to core and smash good or easy if you want, it would take what, a few minutes every day to do it? It's still exposure. I rarely see people recommending this but this is what I've done with premade decks in the past and I don't regret it. On the other hand you have to handle your mining deck seriously, that is pressing again whenever you're wrong.

Most manga with furigana, especially ecchi ones, would be as easy as Yotsubato, all while most likely be more compelling. I mostly learned Japanese through manga and yet I've never read Yotsubato. Don't force yourself to read it because /a/ made a meme out of it.

Use family name + san, unless you know it's appropriate to do otherwise. If a boss is talking to his subordinates (or a teacher to student) he might use family name + chan/kun. If you are talking to friends you might use given name (with chan/kun/san/nothing depending on your relationship). For someone you just met, the safest thing is to use family name + san. If they want you to call them something else, they might tell you so.

I rewrote this post to be more clear. The terms first name and last name are confusing when referring to Japanese names.

I tried to read a volume of Index back in like 2010 and struggled through like 40 pages hating most of it and being really confused. Was taking classes and such in Japan at the time. After a while I saw Haganai being advertised in a shop (this was a few months before it got animated) and picked that up, and I found it much easier to understand. Got through that while having a lot of fun.

It only got smoother from there, after a while you learn to basically pick up from clues and such. Occasionally there'll be some specific word I don't know, but after dozens of books and a bunch of video games it's often something the intended audience isn't really expected to know either, and will usually have a little explanation.

I completed N5 almost a month or two ago.

Really depends on who you talk to. Someone who reads a lot might be able to pass pre-level 1, but there are a lot of Japanese people who couldn't pass that, even in high school and beyond. 漢検 is something you really need to study specifically for, as a lot of what you see on there is about historical origin, old associations in meaning, etc.

Anyway the point is that 漢検 and JLPT are almost entirely incomparable. JLPT is intended for foreigners and is far, far easier than 漢検1, which has something like a 15% pass rate last I checked (despite being taken mostly by native japanese).

After some googling I found a japanese linguistics paper about this construction. I haven't read the whole thing, but the gist is that it shows the action was particularly powerful, lasted a long time, is something to be emphasized, etc.

I know this is hardly a fair sample, but if the college students I interacted with while on study abroad are any example, most of them would probably struggle with level 2 even. At least one couldn't read 讃える when we went to USJ (was printed on the brochure), and that even shows up in light novels and shit.
