I get kyary's popularity but I don't get why anons like her one bit.
candy candy is one of the few good songs and at the time of listening to it all I could think is. wow. koshi would have smashed this why waste it on this no talent.

pom pom had a great verse but the chorus makes the song trash. even in kyary's good songs her vocals are weak at best and terrible at her worst. yume no hajime ring ring was another song that was weak just because of her voice if that was put on ice and given to natsume it would have been a lot more suited to her voice.

don't get me wrong if I'm drunk as fuck I can enjoy a few more of her awful songs. but when I haven't poisoned my brain to the point where I'm at the level of a retard the only song that I can say kyary done justice is fashion monster but that's down vocals having a rap type of rhythm that makes weak voices sound catchy. it even works for yuka. look at her solo in 1mm for an example.

the drawn out verses have a great melody to them, the verses that come before the chorus have a fantastic rap like rhythem and the chorus the chorus is very strong, after a long wait with quite a few verses the chorus hits and satisfies. thats one thing nakata used to know how to do. take edge for example. the chorus was satisfying not because it was intense but because it made you wait for it. nakata knew how to keep you engaged long enough and then at the right moment drop the chorus. perfume's vocals harmonize like they always used to back then a sound they can no longer really do and even in my favorate of their songs weren't able to do. thats what makes computer city so good. everyone was at their best when it was made. perfume practiced non stop vocals so their voice hadn't grown neglected and nakata was transitioning into electronica giving it that great elector-pop feel.

another one of nakata's very under appreciated songs. though it's hard to compare a perfume song in underated value to a capsule song. again a song where they harmonize very well but they also provide great solo verses. yuka's voice is very cute and catchy to listen to and would be the best part of the song if A-chan's voice wasn't already so mature and strong.

I've unironically listened to Kyary, and got flamed in one of these threads for not hating her.

I think she's energetic, entertaining, and her music is catchy (at least the older stuff). moshimoshi harajuku and pamyu pamyu revolution are both good albums.

with that said, claiming she's better than other acts produced by Nakata is flat out delusional. her voice is passable in an autotune sort of way, but she doesn't have the singing ability of Meg, Achan, or Toshiko. and her best songs are not as good as the best songs of Perfume, Capsule, et al.

I don't really have an opinion on Babymetal. they seem to have a good gimmick, and I wish them well, but it's not for me.

Sweet Refrain's MV was pretty good but I hated recycled choreo. Secret Secret did it better and it also happens to be one of their best MVs ever.


I feel like the Cosmic Explorer era was plagued by sappy nostalgia pandering with shit like the recycled choreo I mentioned earlier and Star Train. Every month it felt like they were celebrating some new anniversary and it just got old quick.

They made it big with Polyrhythm and GAME and nothing will top the emotional moments from stuff like the Wonder2 Game Tour Encore and Polyrhythm at the end of their first Tokyo Dome concert. With Star Train/We Are Perfume documentary I just didn't feel anything.

I know I made a list. one amendment after watching GAME is the set list is REALLY strong it's god tier but the rest of it really lacking, it has the great moment with A-chan and yuka crying at the glow sticks but it has not much else, nothing special and zero sex appeal like every other live to follow. they even do take me take me and it does nothing for me.

still I should have put it in great tier for the set list alone, I stand by JPN tour being in great but the setlist is trash in comparison to GAME. computer driving is a straight up skip song for me, pretty mad they didn't replace it with inryoku.

perfume while they are brining in big bucks will quit real soon if they don't hit a new landmark. you can tell they are just in for the ride at this point the don't enjoy it like they did in the past anymore and they don't want to quit just yet because they want to see how far they can go. trust me if perfume don't quit the split second that their sales take a hit they'll be thrown out to be replaced by the next big fad.

honestly there's no reason to follow perfume for anything other than the cute girls at this point.
as much as I make fun of kashiyuka she's honestly 5x more fantastic than any waifu in my second of third favorate group. the girls are great and thats enough to keep us fans. one thing to add is that if people feel betrayed by perfume not caring anymore, let me remind you that non of us care anymore, the japanese audience doesn't care. why should they?

Yea the shift from electropop to EDM is very jarring when you compare Game/Triangle's stuff to shit like Pick Me Up. The "I-wish-they'd-sing-with-their-real-voices"fags won the war. Game/Triangle were love letters to YMO.

I thought they were gonna quit after this piece of shit came out, it was the last thing I bought of theirs after collecting their albums/singles for years. Tokyo Girl makes Relax in the City look DECENT in comparison.

I agree, their shift away from their bread & butter (electropop) is causing all the problems. Tokyo Girl is just generic, it's not garbage but it doesn't have the qualities that sucked me in.

I used to praise Nakata and tell people about him back when he was good. it seems like he got burned out from his workload, then switched to not-give-a-fuck mode, started phoning in and half-assing most of his work, but people still like it so he's still going.

Perfume, like many other artists, got drunk off their success and have gotten complacent, while always seeking a better high (MSG in this case).

I still think COSMIC EXPLORER belongs in the third tier alongside level3 and JPN. but I'm concerned that I'll have to create a new garbage tier for the next.
