I went to one of those mimikaki shops when I visited japan.
It was awkward for me since my shoulders width didn't match the lady unless I moved my head very close to her body.
And I'm sure she was disgusted when she scooped wet ear wax, even though I keep my ears clean.
But she was very professional about it, though she finished me as fast as she could.

I have always found it to be gross

I'm scared to let someone else clean my ears because they might go too deep by accident. That's one of my biggest fears next to heights.

I dont imagine moreso than the west. Here cotton swabs are such a synonym for cleaning ears (though not recommended by docs) that some brands even show photos of people doing so on their products.

Also apparently east asian earwax is so dry it's like tiny dusty breadcrumbs.
