Hello, my name is Peter Barakan, and welcome to Begin Japanology.
>>16323933
Hello Peter where are you taking us to today?
>>16324169
Today we will taking a look into the world of smug anime girls, a pride of Japanse imageboard culture.
>>16324182
Originating in the American sister site of 2chan, 4chan, this imageboard culture has spread like a cancer to the internet community, I myself have been overwhelmed by the trend in recent years. Let's take a look.
>Lost my NHK World and Begin Jap episodes FOREVER
Kill me.

I'm still waiting.
Pee Wee Herman in Japan?
Oh sweet, glad to see Paul Reubens has work.

merry christmas anon

I hate that they needed to mute the audio for certain background songs.
>>16323933
>>16324182
>>16324191
I'm reading this in his voice.
>>16324191
The exact origins of the trend are unknown, but when arguments and debate began to erupt online, these images played the role of a substitute for a rebuttal or explanation.
this mother fucker

I can't believe they still have the Matt "fuck me in the ass cuz I don't care" Alt section
>>16336399

This is the best part you nerds
His voice is always so soothing.
Did you guys know Peter Barakan contributed to the creation of Hip Hop?

Any other people like this guy on YouTube?
Only know this channel but he can be really annoying.

At the moment, Peter is still the best.
Am I supposed to know these people?
>>16336399
People hate him because of how he reminds them of themselves
>>16339779
I do really like his videos, there's a million "gaijin living in japan" youtube channels out there but this guy really focuses on Japan and Japanese culture rather than making shitty vlogs about himself like all those other channels. I like how he travels all over the place and doesn't stick to Tokyo or whatever.
>>16344942
They're from the "Japanology" videos from the NHK TV channel. They introduce aspects of Japanese culture to foreigners. That other guy just does his own channel on youtube but does the same types of videos.
>>16339779
Too many wacky-face thumbnails for me to risk a click on even one of his videos.
>>16344984
>I do really like his videos, there's a million "gaijin living in japan" youtube channels
Reminds of a channel I liked that started out gold was exactly like you described but then the dude kept putting his friends on display and sounded like he's at Japan like he's on vacation.
Abroad in Japan it's called.

Ever seen this guy's videos? https://www.youtube.com/user/lylehsaxon
He rarely ever says anything just wanders around japan with a video camera. He also has videos from the early 90s which I think is really cool. Much better than the other Japan youtubers I think.
My favorite "Japanologist" is Ken Seeroi because I can read his blog instead of having to watch a talking head drone on in an irritating voice. Even the comments are sometimes worth reading.
I also enjoy that the theme is basically nothing but endless observations about how shit everyday life in Japan is.
>>16352565
I subbed to him, after my months of insomnia and watching shinkansen videos to fall asleep.
I always wish i could go to the Japan of my imagination, which was the Japan of the late bubble era.
>>16352789
>Ken "Hurr why isn't everywhere America? Nips should recognize their multucultural heritage!" Seeroi
He's like a personification of everything wrong with Expats.
>>16356489
Always amazes me how these kinds of bloggers give you the impression that they're living through a figurative hell yet they won't make the effort to move somewhere else.
>>16323933
This guy's pretty good.
A true connoisseur.
>>16352565
Discovered these a while ago
Almost though the 91 playlist
It's a fantastic find for me. Japan in the late 80s and early 90s is the most interesting to watch. From golden years to when the bubble popped
>>16360465
to add this is my favorite video style
Some lugging around a camera everywhere in mostly silence and not being over opinionated on every little aspect they're filming. They're very relaxing to watch
Who's that blond mid-thirties single woman who works for NHK and does the same kind of vidlogs for them?
>>16323933
When's the Soapland episode?
>>16356489
>Hurr why isn't everywhere America? Nips should recognize their multucultural heritage!
He bitches about America almost as much as he bitches about Japan. What the fuck are you smoking?
>>16352789
>Ken Seeroi
I can't even live a normal life in America. I only
debate going to Japan just to see how long I'd
last.
>>16328442
>>16334549
It kills me that people weren't making an attempt to archive all this stuff years ago. I'd love to see what NHK was putting out in the 80s and 90s. I saw a really great NHK documentary program about Osamu Tezuka on YouTube one time, looked to be from the 80s, but when I went back to it the entire audio track was muted.
>>16362804
They really need to allow sound on webms outside of /gif/ and /wsg/.
