I was looking on hobbyheart for a daki. I didn't find any touhou daki, that I really wanted. I did find images of dakis online that I liked. Is it fine to make a custom daki that has low resolution, like 72 dpi? Hobbyheart recommends a high resolution like 100-150 dpi.

Just check sites like AmiAmi and Hobby Stock for pre-orders because they sell out fast. For past releases you need to do a hard search frequently. After 2 years I finally found a brand new COSPA Maria Takayama Dakimakura from haganai season 2. I missed out of the pre-orders back then. No support for the original artist, anything about the cover could be low quality from the zipper to the stitching to fabric, the printers don't have access to the full size original artwork so they typically blow the images up and create image artifacts, they colors might fade more easily, and sometimes come with a complementary shitty chinese factory smell. Course, not all of these are guaranteed to happen, but a lot of times you get what you pay for.

Bootleg quality can vary from average to absolute garbage, both in materials/print and artwork quality.
That said, many official dakis use shitty materials too, whereas almost every doujin (amateur) cover uses high quality material/print providers (like A&J and P80). So if you're after an official cover the difference with a bootleg might be smaller, but if the one you're looking for is a doujin one then it might make a world of difference.

So I've had my daki for over a year now, and she's gotten really dirty. I also live in a damp basement. I'm scared putting her in the machine will wear out the colors so I want to avoid that, and I can't exactly hang her outside to dry. Is my only option to hang it up in my room and wait like a month?

Time to give her a bath, anon. Better wash her by hand, especially if it's a fragile material (2way tricot). Use cold water to preserve colors and a bit of mild detergent.
If you really can't hang it outside, not even reversed inside out, hang it inside and have a fan blow on it to help drying. Keep the heater in the room on if necessary (but don't blow hot air on it), and it should be dry in a day or two.

I had the same worry, but I hung it up on a shelf in my room on a couple hangers and it dried in less than a day. Just hand dry it a little before, put a towel or two underneath, and you'll be good
