So, I have a deep and phylosophical question regarding the Surge Concerto series. One that might just strike deep into the heart of the franchise itself.

Does Nei Yuuki have a bigger chest then Ion?

I want them to announce the new Atelier already though I know it's still too early.

The thread took a while to be created this time.
>>
>>16317041
You have to kill the elementals as fast as you can because if you wait too long, they'll start to use attacks that stack time cards like crazy.

Forget about defense and just go full offense. Rely on the automatic healing that Wonder Stimulant has (I think) and stack the automatic revival effect from the dunkelheit.

Use Breezy Aroma for timed healing on the whole party.

Sophie has no weight limit so I let her hold multiple copies of extra large, extra destructive, extra usage Heaven's Cleansing and God's Gift and just spam them every turn.
>>
>>16328467
Thanks, that might come in handy, but she starts acting two, three or four times each turn right when the battle begins, and heals a good amount too. I'll have to do some heavy thinking about this.
>>
>>16317041
I had a funny fight with Light Elemental. At first I tried using buff and item and spam skill + normal attack but LE got all these buff and defeat me. It was on Easy difficulty too.

So I tried to just spam normal attack on my next try and she died in 3 turns.

It's not about steam itself. It's about PC release, which means:
- posiibility of graphics mods (mesh and texture format for these games is known)
- possibility of mods adding more customizsation(it's defined in xml files, easily edited)
-injecting effects with reshade/gedosato/etc.
- posibility of memory/save editing to avoid grind or unlock specific items
- etc.

It wasn't a life-changing experience, it didn't fulfill my expectations, really. I expected a bit more from the story. The script could have been better too.

And nonetheless... nonetheless I still boot the game every now and then and I can't help but smile when I see Ion, and think I missed her a bit.
>>
>>16355918
The story does have its flaws, but i still find it deep and engaging. To say nothing of how Ion carries the rest of the game through sheer adorableness alone.

Incidentally, I'm coming up to the end of chapter 7... I'm kind of putting it off because seeing Ion like that actually kind of hurts. A lot.

Literally cancer.
>>
>>16396850
Gedosato isn't actually all that bad.
All it does is raise the in-game resolution and then downsample it to your screen. (for example, running a game at 4k on a 1080p screen) Its basically the highest quality (but also highest cost) form of anti-aliasing. It doesn't mess with the art of a game in any way.

Speaking of which, KT just released more information about that release:

>>16399594

To be fair many games have an input based prompt system so if you're using a controller it'll display console buttons but if you use a keyboard it'll display keyboard and mouse inputs. So the gameplay shown could have easily been PC. Whether TKE is smart enough for such a marvel of technology is up for debate though..

>>
>>16399761
I'm sincerely asking. I can't see any way in which the games are improved by adding this particular content and numerous ways in which the material detracts from their overall quality.
>>
>>16404665
So does this work?
>>
>>16407795
So you can't see how a story having two people who are attracted to each other can have any value add to a game?

I honestly can't understand what your problem with them being girls is, but love has been a core story device through out human history. If you have a problem with it being between girls, that's your problem, not the story's.
>>
>>16408993
But in the vast majority of Gust games, it's not love, it's fanservice meant to titillate the majority male demographic. The involved heroine(s) eventually end up with a dude or the yuri content doesn't progress anywhere in most cases. It doesn't lend itself to improving the characterization and rather instead makes the characters more shallow and cliche (because the pandering scenes are just reiterations of similar scripts).
>>
>>16409097
Leave /jp/. Nobody wants to deal with this faggoty argument anon. If you don't like yuri fine but go on /a/ or /v/ instead and create a yuri hate wank thread there for all I care.
>>
>>16409374
Whoa anon, getting a bit touchy. I didn't mean anything by it.
It's fine if it's just a matter of subjective taste or something, it'd just be nice if someone could articulate in what fashion it improves the games when generally it appears to be the most superficial and tacked on aspect of them.
>>
>>16409414
The biggest reason for girl's love is because it allows the girls to develop relationships in the course of the story, while still leaving the player to feel like they are available.

Culturally, yuri is seen in Japan as a 'bored girl' phenomenon. Basically, the (incorrect) idea is that girls that cannot find a man to love will lean on their female friends for comfort. It does not mean the girl doesn't like guys, it means that she really trusts and loves her friend.

Any relations the girl has with another girl are non-consequential to the idea of her being pure because it's not sex with a man, so the nerds that need that can remain attached to their 'waifu'.

So from a marketing perspective, it is much easy to have a girl-girl relationship in the story than a girl-boy.

Meanwhile, I don't see any detraction from a game with the inclusion of yuri, which is why I suggested that you must have a personal hang-up around this instead. I've yet to see a game whose quality was affected by this 'detracting' effect of yuri that you seem to imply exists.

So honestly, I'd turn your whole question around and say this: Considering that fanservice will happen, as a design intention, what's the problem with the inclusion of yuri? Is two girls being in love really that disgusting to you?
>>
There's like only two GUST works with explicit yuri...

Holy shit, CnS ending without SekaiLink is true suffering.

Just imagine you've spent over a year with someone to the point where you know them well enough to marry them, and then you ask them to kill you off so they can save their friends and the world. Many tears were shed. ;_;
>>
>>16412680
If you were playing the games as they were released, you reunited with Ion in AnS before she turns you off in CnS. I wouldn't be surprised if this was intentional. Ion's timeline is not the same as your timeline; this is especially apparent because you taking the Shurelia ending and reloading your game is considered canon vis a vis the EXA_PICO universe, just like when Nero changed reality to try to return to her world.

Another way to look at it, there's a causal loop paradox. You started playing AnS where Ion did turn you off, so you had to get Ion to turn you off in CnS in order to close the loop.

I did it. This game was better than I expected but the last one I played was Escha so I wasn't expecting that much. The alchemy minigame was fun until your cauldron gets too good and I liked the idea of unlocking recipes by doing requirements instead of just buying the recipes. Also I liked how Sophie was cute and how you could see up the little girls china dress thing at the end of battles.

However I didn't like how the game went from reasonably difficult to unreasonably easy once I found out I could put +30 stats on all my equipment. Due to the weird pacing I feel I didn't really get to explore or battle all that much after you clear the first set or recipes. But a lot of the maps felt pointless and empty anyway so maybe it was for the best. The worst part by far was there were no zany endings.

Overall it was okay. I don't think I like it enough to buy it again on steam but I'll get the 2nd one when it comes out in a few months.

On a scale of Escha to Meruru how good is Shallie Plus?

>>16421120
If anything, watching the Youtube playthrough made me want the game much more. Ion's an absolute miracle in Ciel.
>>
>>16420094
CnSiE is finished. The intention of the project was to do a run of the story with just enough Ion for people to get some attachment, and then end with an unlinked ending.

The idea behind this end was that this is the Ion that English Ar nosurge players meet -- one that switched the terminal to the ES45 but ended up losing her "Anata" and having to have someone else help her instead. The Cielno "Anata", knowing this would happen, shares their experience so that the new (Arno) "Anata" knows what Ion's been through and how much she needs their help.

>>16421120
It's definitely not the same as playing it. It's a compromise. You can see the story, and get a taste of interacting with Ion, but you miss the daily interaction part of the game that really make's Ion feel like part of your life.

Since you read the write up the video series may or may not be interesting to you.
>>
>>16421111
The memories in Ciel is roughly the exact opposite of comfy.
>>
What is the best atelier game?
>>
>>16421120
It's been said before, but the stuff the Youtube series covers is only about ~25% of the game content. I'm not going to downplay the hurdle that is the game being in Japanese, but hanging out with Ion is worth learning as you go. It certainly was to me.

>>16421208
I highly recommend it. Just watching CnSiE doesn't do justice to how adorable Ion is. Like i said before, even if you have to learn and get used to Japanese on the way, it's more then worth it.

>>16421334
This. The daily life part of Ciel IS the game. The story bits covered in the videos and the write up are just thematic icing on the wonderful cake that is hanging out with Ion.

That said, I enjoyed re-watching the story in english. The unlinking ending was a bit painful to watch, though.

>>16421555
That's not entirely correct. The stuff that happens in the story is, in fact, the opposite of comfy, but whenever you come out of 夢の世界, Ion's there waiting, and you get to discuss what happened. This helps to aliviate the mood a bit, kind of like a breather episode in an anime. Which is what makes the end of chapter 7 and the proceeding 3ish days so soul crushing. To say nothing of what happens in the unlinking ending.

In summary, if you haven't played Ciel, you should. It's an investment, ESPECIALLY time wise, but hanging out with Ion is well worth it.

It's one of my favorites. Whether you like the characters or not is subjective like it is with most jrpgs. Combat and alchemy is as good as usual. The soundtrack is one my favorites as well and I really liked Sophie, Plachta, and Corneria a lot. You may want to play the Arland games first though.

>>
>>16463903
These are both hard to answer. How long depends on you and your commitment to learning the language, as well as how naturally inclined you are to learning languages.

As far as how hard it is, it tends to hover around JLPT 3-4, i guess? At least in Ion's room. You don't need to read the story portion yourself, just watch CnSie.
>>
How gloomy is the Dusk Trilogy world? I know this is going to be cute girl doing cute thing, which I'm not a big fan of, but I loved Sora No Woto because it mixed CGDCT with a doomed post-apocalypse world.

I find the Souls serie, Castlevania and Darkest Dungeon to have some pretty comfy world if it's worth anything.

>>16417818
I didn't even know this was a bug.

I had a bug where the game was stuck on an infinite loading right after the final dungeon is reveled but that was with a several month old patch so maybe they fixed it or maybe it was something else.
>>
>>16463903
I had 4 years of college level Japanese and two years of muddling my way through occasional Japanese conversations before I started playing Ciel. The episodic nature was nice because Ion was a lot easier to understand than the story portions so everytime a new chapter came out I could do a big push, learn new words and stuff, then relax with Ion again.

I'd say that, like most visual novel style games, if you can get a good grasp of the underlying grammar and structure of Japanese, then you can do a learn as you play approach, learning kanji, vocab, new novel grammars, etc, as you go.

The core grammatical competency is the key part.

The Dusk trilogy conveyed a sense of melancholy more than a sense of outright gloom. Yes, the world is pretty much ending, but everyone is going on with their lives and it doesn't really get anyone too down.

So, I left Ciel nosurge at around chapter 10 and now finally started playing Ar nosurge.

I have no idea what's happening, they're all in the ship and Nei is this Tentouki person and Jill has a(nother) Sharl cult that caught Sarly and there's this Delta dude who looks like a grown Taabou but they seem to be unrelated and they talk about something that happened six months ago without revealing what it is? Well, the reason they're all in the ship is pretty simple. They fucked up, the planet is destroyed, and so they had to move to Soreil because they don't have a planet anymore.
I really like how nonchalantly this fact is dropped after the ending of Chapter 10 was so optimistic. Hell, it's actually spelled out in the opening. It literally shows the planet falling apart, exactly as it did.
The other things are all explained in the course of the game, honestly. It's just that they were going for confusion in the first chapter for some reason. There are plenty things which are trivial on their own but seem insane because of lack of context.

A heads-up for people like me who missed out on buying The Finder (Surge Concerto artbook) when it was first released:

GUST is currently holding a survey on whether there's demand for a reprint.

http://social.gust.co.jp/pc/event/surge/refinder
>>
>>16479246
The anket also asks if there's any other surge materials that you'd like to see re-released.

I highly recommend encouraging them to reprint the 7次元通信 DVD webvideo collection. For the first few months they had Nana Inoue (Kanon) and Ai Kakuma (Ion) doing a web video series with character skits news, and some other stuff.

At one point they had Nana, Maaya Uchida (Nay), Inori Minase (Cas), and someone else building little robots and racing them. There was also a cooking segment. They ended up taking each episode down/offline after like two weeks and I cannot find a single fucking repository online for those episodes ANYWHERE.

That DVD is my only hope, and the bitches reselling it on amazon.co.jp are pricing it higher than Filament Star at this point.

Sorry man, I autopiloted anket in there. Spend too much time in Japanese, sometimes I get stupid about fixing borrow words like that.

Though, if you were going to fill it out, you'd probably need some Japanese anyways. (Survey is just "I would like it" or "I would not like it" and a comment box, but you'd still need a MyGust account.)

I think this place does have a high ratio of jpn-enabled individuals though compared to some other threads.

Ion's emotionally stronger than perhaps any other GUST character. As for her character, I'll say she's at least a bit better than your average Ar Tonelico heroine (or just jrpg waifu character). She's not a useless girl who follow the MC everywhere but also manage to be cute as fuck.

I'll say it's the mix of intamicy and the fact that she is the one leading you around that make her great.

From my experience, it is barely a port, the UI tutorials assume you're using a PS controller and I didn't even bother trying to play it with keyboard and mouse. I think there's no mouse support whatsoever
The characters look really pretty, but everything else looks kind of like ass, but I assume that's how it is on ps4 too. The city feels really empty

It also doesn't seem to be a very good game as far as atelier games go anyway, the combat feels clunkier than usual and so far it feels like Dusk did synthesis better

What the fuck is this even supposed to mean? It's on 100% load on all cores and all threads. How is this not a fucking problem? I noticed this shit because the intro video for NoA would stutter like fuck while the game was running but played fine outside the game.

>The Cpu utilization isn't a real issue at all, it's just actively waiting.
What the fuck. Why would you ever do that. This occupies valuable processing time and wastes energy for, literally, doing nothing. It's doing nothing, but it's telling the system it's doing something.
Nobody ever uses active waiting unless you're a low-level programmer, and you literally need it in a kernel. You know why? Because using it in a user application is absolutely retarded. You're actively taking time away from other tasks that could be running and forcing CPU to remain at high frequencies instead of working at low power for a while.
The time is basically actually not in fucking use.
This is just embarrassing mistake for a programmer to commit. Even if he's a retard, there should be some limits.
I think Durante was saying that the problem wasn't that the game wasn't optimised enough, the problem was that it's basically anti-optimised in some respects.
Fucking KT. Or whoever ported this crap.

For everyone having CPU issues for NoA or Sophie there's a community fix currently.

Download the one you need and put the one core DLL inside your game folder with the exe.
Fix came from here.

GUST deciding to kill the AT franchise and exclusively do other shit while also having the 3d models and gameplay/programming outsourced to Corea killed gust threads.

>energy consumption
Also OS scheduling and probably how long CPU will last overall (though the wear shouldn't probably be that significant in most circumstances, but still). Actually pretty important, he's understating it.
Also, I think, CPUs (in particular, desktops and especially notebooks) nowadays can only work at their maximum power for a short while, after which they forcibly throttle, meaning enter a lower frequency and overall start working slower so that they don't overheat. Mind you, if you spend 1 second on 100% and next 10 lower, it's perfectly fine, and this 100% work will be done quicker. I think busy waiting can trigger that too, so you get a drop in performance just because you didn't want to avoid busy waiting.
And if your cooler setup is fucked up in any way? Boy do I have good news for you. Say thanks it's random shutdowns and not your CPU melting away.
This is inexcusable.
Fuck, why is everybody in that thread that is referenced seems to be saying "well, I guess it's just an illusion lol". It's a big fuck-up on their part, not a slight problem that only affects some people.
Next thing we know they will load all the scenes of the game into RAM at once because "unused RAM is wasted RAM lol you should have a terabyte of swap space on SSD anyway".
>>16537667
The worst thing is, it should be easy to see during basic optimisation. I mean, usually you mostly check GPU latency and FPS count during optimisation, sure, but I don't have any idea how you could port a game and not check CPU load even once, if only from curiosity. It's not like it's some elusive bug that only shows itself when the weather on Mars is just right, you should just run the game and open a task manager at the same time. After which, an obvious reaction should be "wait, did I mix up where I should put the bitcoin miner? Oh, it's just busy waiting".
It's not hard to fix either. It's just embarassing to leave in something like that. I can get putting something like that if you're inexperienced, but how do you ship something like that? I have no idea.

It still wastes resources and clashes with what the OS expects of you, which are both inherently bad things.
Also, what about notebooks which have subpar cooling by default?
If people were compiling on their computer and overheated as a result, I would say nothing. Neither would I if they overheated from running a Minecraft server, for example. But a GPU-bound game isn't supposed to act like this.

question about Totori (i know, I'm like 10 years late to the party) but in New Game+ all your stats, items and equipment carries over, right?

I'm at the final boss evil face and I am way underlevelled with like 13 days left in the game. no matter what I do I cannot beat him. So i'm thinking about saying fuck it, and letting the time run out and starting a NG+

>>
>>16553179
I wouldn't worry about min/maxing early on. Just upgrade your equipment when you can, then once you can make the ultimate equipment you do it all at once and make 9999 quality overpowered shit.

For grinding, once you can make the highest tier fire bomb that hits all enemies, slap the one-hit kill trait on it and have loli restore it.
>>
>>16553209
Not really trying to min/max, just looking for some good traits to use to get that small edge. Been using Mutated Material on all my armors since that was real easy to get but not sure what I should go for on my weapons since I read attack isn't actually too useful of a stat

They still have the slowdown, but it never bothered me much in any of them so I can't say how much it'd be a deal breaker for you. Ayesha+ also has a memory leak issue wherein using items will start to get a delay between selecting them and the animation starting which gets longer the longer the game has been running, but it won't come up if you just close and re-open it every 5 hours or so.
The extra content is too significant to pass up anyway. Ayesha PS3 is dub-only, and E&L+ and Shallie+ both get extra story content on top of the extra bonus bosses and outfits.
