>watching jap shows for the plot

i watch them for the aesthetics and the cinematography. plot and acting are irrelevant to me desu

>cute jap girls in seifuku
>scenery of glorious japanese cities and rural towns
>japanese language
>japanese culture

only uncultured plebs care about acting and plot
>>
>>16287349
Except that Japanese shows in 99% of the cases look like local dogshit because they don't give two fucks about lightning and composition. If you like cheap looking shows, Japanese television dramas are your magic chest.

I've been here before you were born but it won't change the fact that I'm still a bit bothered by those. If you think for one second there's absolutely no point to this besides losing time for the poster and the reader. It's not even funny, nor informative, it's just someone letting off steam.
But yeah I know I'm pretty naive, I should avoid pointing those things, people don't change their mind when they're told anyways, only when they're ready to.

Anyways

I'm interested in discussing doramas but this kind of rec thread is /a/ quality shit.

The best way to get recommendations is by discussing the things you enjoy first and hoping that others will want to talk about those and then you go from there.

Get it together, baby.

I enjoy Densha Otoko, my man :^)
>>
>>16295950
Well, yeah. Everyone does. It's a staple.

I thought the drama was especially well done. You had more time to let the plot coalesce, which I think to the uninitiated viewer is essential to understand the board culture and anonymous users. Then again, it's not quite so niche in Japan so most people probably got the context immediately. I didn't like the film at all. The anons were fucking annoying and everything felt much stiffer. It was kinda joyless, where the drama always had a light atmosphere, like a joke's just around the corner.

The original manga by Wataru Watanabe was great but I've never read the novel.

I enjoyed sanada maru. If you like sengoku jidai stuff you might like it.

But I agree with this anon >>16287349
you watch doramas for the scenery.
>>
>>16286605
The most popular right now obviously which is NigeHaji. Final episode just aired two days ago so now is the perfect time to marathon the whole thing. The drama peaked at 20℅ average viewership which broke all kinds of records apparently for a Tuesday 10pm dorama. The dance at the end of every episode also sparked some kind of trend so you can find all kinds of people dancing it on the net i saw the white dudes at the American embassy dancing it.

Rec me some dorama that are not made for housewives. Most stuff I try to watch are very cheap in every aspect.

Kudo Kankuro and Yuichi Fukuda are still good tho.

Good taste.

I also recommend Legal High (same main lead as Hanzawa this time as a lawyer). Super funny yet meaningful story.

oh yeah, doctor x didn't start in 2016 either, but i still like it. i have a thing for long legs lol

in this one, it's a 2015 drama that i came out really liking. partly because of how awesome and pretty yoko maki is and how grounded the story is.
>>
>>16307995

There is a time and a place for cheap looking filming & editing. It just so happens that Japan is pros at this and makes that time all the time. There is nothing bad about it.

>>
>>16287388
I've always wondered about this. Compared to western tv shows, Japanese shows look as though they were recorded on an average videocamera and that's it. Differing values perhaps? Or maybe lack of budget for the typical drama?
>>
>>16309732
Even Kamen Rider and Sentai look better than most Doramas.
>>
>>16306156
>I also recommend Legal High (same main lead as Hanzawa this time as a lawyer). Super funny yet meaningful story.
I got trolled, 10/10.
Very entertaining though, thanks for the recommendation.

How / why is it so popular?

The premise and by extension the name of the show seems really silly.
>>
>>16304297
I didn't like it. I thought it was bland and boring.

Date koi to wa donna mono kashira did the same plot 10x better
>>
>>16312544
>i got trolled
O-oh i think i might've worded it poorly my bad. It's the same actor (Masato Sakai) is what i meant.

>>16312795
I think it's because of the fact that it resonates well with Japan's culture nowadays where many young people from ages 20 to 40 don't even have time to date let alone marry. Also they really really like dances ie. Parapara if you're old enough to remember.

>>16312838
It wasn't even Gakkis best drama imo but it's her most popular by far now. I agree with you that the plot was a bit too straight forward.
>>
>>16312873
>It wasn't even Gakkis best drama imo but it's her most popular by far now.
im the biggest gakky fanboy but this wasnt it. its still papa to musume
>>

I was talking about the ending of Legal High.
about them fighting over a hamster, holy shit
>>
>>16312881
Was papa that popular at the time when it aired? I didn't watch it then.

>>16313068
Yeah the reveal is my favorite scene in the drama as well although there were others which came close such as the first meeting in the train. Btw there is a second season.
>>
>>16306382
This sounded interesting until I read about MC being a businessman and since I'm NEET I don't really want to have my nose rubbed in shit by a drama.

Any good "otaku/loser-makes-good" stuff that's new?
>>
>>16316564
The mc is portrayed as a loser who's never had a gf at the age of 35 although he is good at his job. He's quite insufferable actually. The other love "rival" for the girl is the cool dude.

Also have you seen I Am Hero? It's a new movie about an aspiring manga artist ie. loser in a zombie apocalypse setting who as the title implies finds his path to become a hero for others. Has a good cast also.
>>
>>16316564
>since I'm NEET I don't really want to have my nose rubbed in shit by a drama.
You're a million times more likely to see that in a drama involving a NEET character, though. At best, they're just punching bags who eventually get some kind of job.

It's a little weird to ignore the show just because the MC has a job.
>>
>>16316733
Yeah, you're right. I'm not saying I won't watch it or anything. It's supposed to be great. I'm just looking for something a bit different right now.

>>16316605
That sounds pretty great. Downloading it now. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
>>
>>16312795
The main girl is cute.
>>
>>16331584
if that were all, then gouriki (bleah) dramas would do well, but they dont
