Now that I remember, I posted this on /v/ and Reddit, but not /jp/. This is my own custom controller for Future Tone, build from generic Aliexpress parts and a Brook Universal Fighting PCB for PS4 compatibility.

As some anon pointed out, I incorrectly mounted the bottom inserts of the four main buttons on top, so they are kinda raised up. I'll try this configuration first and, if it becomes uncomfortable, I'll just remove the inserts and put some felt to protect the methacrylate.

does anyone else think it's near time to start an accurate tagging/bitrate audit & reupload project? the amount of badly tagged/mistagged/missing tagged/badly encoded or transcoded albums shared online is despicable.

rules:
>all archives are .rar. (.zip does not preserve codepages, .7z is for hipsters)
>all archives unpack into their own folder name (formatted as artist - title, or just title for various artist albums)
>all folders have a cover.jpg in the highest resolution possible, scanned artwork in a Scans\ subfolder. lossless artwork optional. "noart.png" from vocadb.net replaces cover.jpg if no artwork is available.
>lossless rips are marked as [FLAC] or [WAV] at the end of the folder name
>all filenames are strictly "nn. title"
>no tags are to contain "feat. xxx" featured vocaloids belong in the comment field.
>"shared by xxx.txt" "lyrics.txt" or "find more at gayanimeforum.net.txt" files are to be deleted.

most albums are well-documented on vocadb, which has a metadata export feature that can auto-tag your files inside foobar2k. there's really no excuse not to have a tidy vocaloid collection. who's with me?

oh and also: all archives should be compressed with the "Store" option in WinRAR. i don't know why people do this. MP3 and JPG files are already compressed, so there is no further compressing them. using a compression option to compress already compressed files is redundant and serves no purpose other than slowing the rate of compression/decompression. it also saves no filespace at all, in most cases the archive ends up being larger than the original set of data.

I spent a month of work (on my free time and more often than not waiting for something, like for the correct parts to arrive or the painting to dry) and around 200 € of parts:
- 80 € for the Universal Fighting PCB
- 40 € for the buttons
- 30 € for the paint

The light is not that strong as the photography suggest but you can regulate it with the correct resistors. They came with 470 Ohm ones for around 20 mA on 12V, but I change them for 100 Ohm for 15 mA on 5V. Yes, the light is poorly diffused. Maybe it is because they are generic buttons. I bet Sanwa did a better job designing them.

A lot of people will disagree with you on this. But the root of the problem here isn't even people's different formatting preferences; it's the fact that the ID3 spec is so poorly designed, and implementations so screwy, that we're forced into deciding "do we put vocalists in the artist field, or the comments? what if we have actual comments then? how else can we differentiate from producers? what about the lesser-known id3 frames? do we separate with commas, or with semicolons, or with null bytes like the spec says even though a lot of software doesn't support it?" etc. etc. It's an even worse nightmare for anyone who's ever had to work with the spec: https://blog.codinghorror.com/a-spec-tacular-failure/

Personally, I put producers and vocaloids in the artist field, formatted the same as vocadb, because at least then it displays nice. Most players don't show comments, and I care as much or more about the vocaloids than I do the producers for a given song, so I don't want to hide that info away.

Just finished watching Nico Nico Cho 2016. It was pretty shit desu, aside from Yukari's part. I like miku, she is my 2nd favorite, but there is too much of her and not enough of the others. Even the Odds&Ends part is almost the same as in 2013. Hope it will be better next year.

That's one reason why X confused me so much. F and F2nd both had plenty of cool MVs; things that were awesome to watch and show people outside of just the game. Then they were like "what if we ignored the coolest parts about being a virtual idol, and made it so they dance on stage like normal people do" for almost every song.

It's super nitpicky but I still don't know how to feel about the controls. Pressing two different face-buttons instead of the regular double-presses isn't quite the same, and 3-button/4-button presses clearly aren't meant for a controller (relying on a macro is lame IMO, and it's uncomfortable to do manually). To be fair, I think the slides are a waaaaay cooler replacement for stars, but it doesn't make up for the previous points for me personally.

Also I could never get over the Extend/Arcade artsyle. Looks unsettling, like those creepy anime doll facemasks.

triples and quads are not that hard to pull off on a DS4 after a little practice, reading them is tougher but that's why it's better than lame same direction doubles.

Are you asking about X or FT?
I'm still not super-high level, I can only clear a few of the FT 10 stars consistently and there are even a few 9 stars I haven't cleared yet at all but I guess I can give tips.

If you're asking for X the biggest thing is to get comfortable alternating between both thumbs, that is pretty important in all the games. You should still be able to do single thumb stuff pretty fast. The rush mechanic in X is actually really good for practicing this, what I do is kind of switch how I hold the controller so my fingers aren't wrapped around the bottom, but instead pushing in on the sides with your palms, you can kind of shake the controller back and forth while keeping it stable and for me at least, I can hit notes way faster consistently.

Reading ahead is also essential like any rhythm game.

If you meant FT all that still applies but multis are something you have to get used to, I remember someone posted something about the way they come onto the screen being consistent with how the buttons are lined up on the arcade machine, but I don't remember the details.

Reading multis is less about the notes' symbols and more about their positioning. The arcade layout is, from left to right, Triangle Square X Circle.
For horizontal multis, that layout is important because Triangle is always on the far left, Square is always center left, X is always center right, and Circle is always far right. This makes horizontal multis easy to read because you don't have to look at the shape at all, you'll know the note from their position on the screen.
Vertical multis start to get trickier, since they can be triples and can be anywhere on the screen, but they follow the same position rules as above, but vertical, with Triangle at the top.

No, it was a few years ago.

Basically, my details used special characters like "éáűúő", and on every line where there was one, everything from that character went missing. Name, city, street, all cut in half or worse.
