If the people at Eientei had any semblance of sense left they'd just steal Sagume and watch how Luna succumbs in the fires of its own degeneracy. The Watatsuki wouldn't even sense danger if it bit them in the ass.

While interesting (the idea that Eirin was ready and willing to fucking murder Patchouli depending on how she answered her questions), I can't help but feel this might have been another one of those artist fuckups that SSiB is apparently littered with.
>>
>>16248326
I hope it isn't. Man Eirin is such a badass and for the right reasons.
>>
>>16248326
People seem very willing to assume Eirin would have actually murdered her over what I think is just a pretense to threaten her for information. There's no real reason Eirin would even have to kill her; she wants to know who would have given her information (and what info) on the Capital, which is what Eirin's goal always was from the beginning.
>>
>>16248326
I'm confused. Being a Youkai, wouldn't stabbing Patchouli be a useless endeavour?

Also, Eirin is a faggot for not doing it anyway.
>>
>>16248707
Patchouli is a magic-user, not a youkai per se, so she'd still be vulnerable to stabbings. Yes she was born as a 'magician', but this just means she's a human with the ability to use magic from the get-go. Like Harry Potter.
>>
>>16248634
>>16249082

>>
Is Eirin the most Mary Sue'ish of all the Touhous?
She's one of the most powerful characters, a genius and immortal. But the thing is that she always gets things her ways, she has never lost a fight and everyone respects her. She's a character without and downsides or faults
>>
>>16248634

While you have a point you're missing the fact that Patchouli had no idea there was an arrow at her back, so Eirin drawing it and having it in shank position serves no purpose if she hadn't intended to go through with it if need be.

>>16249215

Yeah except for the time Yukari gave her a bit of the Lunarian Sake (I think?) Yuyuko had snagged from the Lunar Capital and completely blew her the fuck out.
>>
>>16249215
Maybe? Sometimes it does seem written that way, like how impossibly smart she is and how she knows everything. But it'd be a mary-sueness only in terms of talent, ploting, defeating her enemies and such. For the other part only the watabitches seems to actually really like her, and they are bitches not likable characters. Everyone else either doesn't trust her, fears her or dislikes her. And none get ridiculed or are considered wrong for doing so, like with most mary sues. Also she's devoted to Kaguya, but kaguya is like lol ok.

I think she's too much of a highly competent antagonist, which makes her annoying in the same way mary-sues are for never losing or getting away with everything, but in the other hand it's kind of necessary for her to be that way, considering her most defining traits are her absurdly high age and intelligence.

She probably does need a flaw that's more than just -another character was able to perform better than her here-

Eirin took another drink.

There was no doubt about it. Whatever labor they went through to get this sake, it was no ordinary venture. This was not some cheap swill that businessmen would drink after hours, incomprehensible babble spilling from their mouths.

It was an exceedingly ancient sake that had been aging for over a thousand years in the Lunar Capital. Yes, it was likely sleeping even at the time when Eirin fled for Earth.

"Wh-What is this...?" Eirin was clearly shaken. She had shown composure without intending, meaning it was the moment Yukari had been waiting for to strike.

Eirin could never forget the taste of that sake. The purity that was impossible to obtain on the impure Earth, and the deep flavor that came from its millennium-long slumber.

"It must have been centuries since you left your hometown. I thought you were becoming distraught with homesickness, so I had some sake from the Lunar Capital prepared for you."

Yukari grinned.

That ominous smile left a deep scar in Eirin's mind, something she would never be able to forget. To make those who cannot die question the meaning of living. To make them fear the unknown, what they cannot understand.

That was the true intention behind Yukari's Second Lunar Invasion.

Is Yukari our gal?

I feel like people are starting to use "Mary Sue" to name just any op character. The point of the Mary Sue is that she's perfect in her personality as well.
Eirin certainly doesn't have a perfect personality. She does care about Eientei people: not so much about all the others.
>>
>>16265527
But her personality is near perfect, not caring that much about others is not what I would call a flawed personality trait. Everything else about her is near perfection.

Yeah, shonen-like manga usually require a lot more exposition than that.

Anyway, from what I gather, Meiling herself is a tumor born from the disturbance of the dragon's vein. So much like the drake, she absorbs the spiritual energy from the surrounding, restoring herself.
That's why she asked Chen to leave.
>>
>>16294749
You don't need hax powers to defeat Reimu
You just need anything that can put a human "out of commission" and use it suddenly.
After all, nobody expects a knife in his back or a bullet in the back of his head as he's walking to the grocery, and neither a IED just under the floor, or if chemistry is your fancy, Sarin is both odorless and colorless and it can be absorbed through the skin.

What? Nobody said "straight fight". And killing your enemies is a legit way of defeating them.

That's the kinda thing I mean. Meiling's backstory is pretty much a blank slate that you can do almost anything with, and she can fit in all different power levels, its just a matter of not overdoing it where it comes off like some kind of wish-fulfillment wank.

Genuine question: why do you think it's unnecessary? How would you write it differently so everyone got their happy ending?

Unrelated, but I'm happy that most doujin (that I've read anyway) that features Meiling has always been light-hearted. Even when the artist is someone who gave us Uetora.
>>
>>16297674
>bring down the barrier and kill every youkai/fairy/god residing inside thus becoming an unspoken hero that saved humanity
Outside of Gensokyo is quite literally our world, Gnesokyo and its inhabitants are not a threat to humanity as a whole in any way shape or form

Gensokyo's human inhabitants would probably be completely shellshocked when exposed to an entirely modern world too
>>
DESU Meiling's described as actually being really strong and skilled in physical fights, just that since everything's solved through danmaku and she isn't really great at it she seems a bit weak.

Love doujins that focus on her fighting skills though
>>
>>16305386

It just seems like an awkward added layer to the story that didn't really need to be there. Instead of being a story about how these 3 characters figure out whats going on, confront the threat and take care of it, it instead is a story about how 3 characters get completely played by Yukari into doing exactly what she wanted and Yukari gets everything she wanted because Yukari knows everything and takes care of everything because she's Yukari.

This is already pretty much how events tend to go in Touhou canon, what's wrong with a story where other people take care of things for once? You've even got Ran mentioning at one point that Yukari isn't around to take care of this threat for them, which is supposed to add to the tension of how the group has to handle this situation themselves, which is part of the build-up to when Meiling shows up going "Hold my hat, I got this".

You could've cut out the entire thing between Yukari and Remilia. If length is a concern, just expand a little more on the hinted at backstory of Meiling's. Draw more parallels between her past self and the Drake in the present, show how she's more in control of her powers now and better than the monster she's fighting, culminating with her being able to let go of the energy she absorbs from the Drake instead of just mindlessly consuming it.

I dunno, it just kinda irks me that for a story that seems like its supposed to focus more on Meiling, the story isn't actually focused on her much at all.

>>16305546

Reminds of that whole boss review chart that came out in one of the recent print works or magazines lately. Meiling got godawful scores from Reimu and Marisa, but a surprisingly good one from Sakuya who mentions something along the lines of "I thought her usual should've been good enough".

The way I see it she's basically a character who would be considered pretty amazing in a low-level power setting, but is unfortunately stuck in a batshit-ridiculous-level power setting where she's wildly outclassed by most of the cast just in sheer baseline ability.
>>
>>16305507
>Gensokyo's human inhabitants would probably be completely shellshocked when exposed to an entirely modern world too
They *are* shellshocked. Rinnosuke half-consciously ends up on the outside in CoLA, and in ULiL everyone that goes outside is utterly confused.
>>
>>16249215
I don't remember too many times where she gets her way in canon. (in a bad way)

Imperishable Night you get to Kaguya's room against her will, all she really did in SSiB is tattle on Yukari to the Watatsuki's, and I can't remember her doing much anything else.

That aside, I should say I think Eirin is a very loyal person if you're someone she cares about, which is not a universally positive trait. Take how she's keeping up with Kaguya. There's her, she has to keep up her end of the bargain with Tewi, and she tries to make sure the Lunarians don't wet themselves.

So she's really smart and really cunning but she has all these fucking responsibilities to deal with. Compare her to say, Marisa who just runs around stealing spells and maiden's hearts.
>>
>>16306187
Ah, I see what you mean. Personally, I've gotten a bit too used to Yukari 'all-according to keikaku' Yakumo that I'd be more surprised if she doesn't have her hand in a situation in some way.
Thinking about it now, it does seem like a waste to give some kind of backstory for Meiling - and a good one at that, in my opinion - just to make it irrelevant in the story itself.
>>
>>16306968

Yeah, unfortunately the more I think about this story the more I've started to dislike it.

What could have been a decent action/backstory doujin just ends up being this kinda dry bowl of potato chips shonen monster of the week story, which the artist seems to even acknowledge at in the comments at the end. Touhou stories have the potential to carry a pretty significant amount of emotional weight, which Zounose has even has even explored fairly well with a couple of his other works, but most artists just seem to be more interested in just plain fightin' scenes.

Also just to a nitpicky little shit, the whole "Dragon Slayer/Killer" thing doesn't make a bit of goddamn sense. The characters literally have a conversation where they talk about how the monster isn't a dragon, its a drake, and its not even an actual drake its just some fucky spiritual energy tumor. So where the hell does Ran draw this conclusion where she calls Meiling a Dragon Killer, other than it sounded cool and it was the title of the book?

PS Fuck you Kasen/Zounose for that "it just looks like cannibalism" line, I know you've got a raging fetish for it, but it was wholly unnecessary and added absolutely nothing to the events unfolding.

The only good Touhou stories are stories where Alice gets ravaged by hundreds of cocks.

There's the tanuki-like beast youkai that Marisa stomped as well.

Eirin is of course a racist, hence the ironing of her exile into Gensokyo, which is basically a refugee paradise for supernatural beings.

IIRC nobody really knows what Mokou did exactly after drinking the elixir, the rampaging madman thing was one of the rumors or theories.

>IIRC nobody really knows what Mokou did exactly after drinking the elixir, the rampaging madman thing was one of the rumors or theories.

No, she says it herself in her CiLR chapter.
>For the first three hundred years, other people hated me, and I lived a sad life who only caused trouble to myself and those around me if I didn't stay in hiding.
>The next three hundred years I spent harboring a grudge against this world, and was able to preserve the faintest sense of identity by immediately dispatching anything that crossed my path, youkai or otherwise.
>For the next three hundred years the youkai in the area couldn't hold my interest anymore, and I lost all motivation towards anything, surrendering to tedium.
>But during the next three hundred years, I was finally reunited with my immortal archrival, and we discovered the joys of killing each other, over and over.

The "rumors and theories" are about who Mokou is in the first place. From back before the creation of the Great Hakurei Barrier, people thought that the forest was inhabited by a ninja clan who protected humans from youkai.

Are you insisting Mokou didn't have any children?

Eirin just knows humanity can't compare.

Pretty much. Doesnt it say she keeps killing people who are trying to bring back kaguya to pay for her crimes
>>
>>16240283
Why did she betray the Lunatians? i doubt she had that much loyalty to kaguya
>>
>>16353199
Their immortality makes them continually spread impurity, it's a really pragmatic move and spares Kaguya's feelings by calling it loyalty.
>>
>>16353225
I thought eirin no longer cared about the moon
>>
>>16357516
When is this said?
>>
>>16348232
No. Kaguya was sent to Earth as her punishment in the first place. When emissaries led by Eirin came to bring her back later (i.e. her primary punishment was over), Eirin killed them and went into hiding with Kaguya because she knew Kaguya wouldn't be able to live normally in the Capital anymore either way. If emissaries found them again (looking for Eirin now as well) they'd get rid of them and hide again. This only happened until they traveled to the Bamboo Forest of the Lost and constructed Eientei. Meanwhile it didn't take long for the Lunarians to stop caring about finding them, but they were paranoid about being found for ages anyways. At this point there are likely no problems on either side, considering they even made use of Eirin indirectly for LoLK.

Consuming the Hourai Elixir inflicts you with kegare, but nothing else you said makes any sense and contradicts the story.

>>16357625
"I don't care about the internal affairs of the Capital anymore" doesn't mean she doesn't care about it in general.

Shes just indifferent

I'd give Yukari credit for going to war with the moon for no reason other than to cull Gensokyo's youkai population.
>>
>>16364704
nothing has ever said any of the youkai were destroyed

I wonder how 2hu would be different if the genders were swapped. There's a lot of mean girls in 2hu.

well yeah they are mean. They eat people or manipulate people to further their own goals

Didn't Yuyuko took the sake on a whim? She could have took something else and still blew Eirin's mind but decided on sake because she could probably enjoy it more.
>>
>>16371805
She took the sake as it was the only treasure the Lunarians wouldn't be able to recover.

Didn't she took the sake to troll yukari and the lunarians

I thought she took the Sake to fuck with Yukari. Who assumed Yuyuko would take something grand or at least multiple items
