word up to all my nihon kokujin, ki o tsukete
Here's the damage a tsunami wave can do. Those screenshots of the news above say there's an area with 3m waves so there will be houses being washed away.
>2 m: wooden houses destroyed
>1 m: cars washed away
>50 cm: people washed away
>30 cm: people can't stand up
>>16139524
>People are dying hehehehehehe I am so smart laughing at weebs
Back to /b/ mouthbreathing retard
>>16139525
>wooden houses destroyed
why don't just make them of another material?
Animated. Just some boats leaving harbor. The wave hasn't reached yet.
I came here because holy shit this is my best source of live coverage of this event.
Many boats.
>>16139525
> 50cm of water can wash japs away
fucking manlets.
3 meters is not that high desu
>>16139576
You underestimate the strength of water, it doesn't take much to wash away almost everything.
>>16139581
10 ft of water
>>16139599
>subhuman units
neither 3 meters nor 10 ft are very high
>>16139581
>>16139589
nigga my bro Dubal is almost this high no water can wash his ass away from the street i guarantee ya
You can see the water flowing back into the ocean. The tsunami comes afterwards. It's called drawback apparently.

>>16139589
That and tsunamis don't break and quickly recede. They keep moving like a steamroller.
Drawback here too.
Woke me up in Akasaka.
Pretty spooky.
Wasn't Fukushima a ghost town because of the whole nuclear plant thing?
>>16139635
If that is correct it means the waves will be coming in soon after. If what is displayed is not regular tidal motion. These shouldn't be monster surges like in previous years though.
People evacuating.

Can watch it together with ojisan.
Lots of boats.
Also updated estimated times for the tsunami wave.

A car.
>>16139675
Why does a person drive out to this spot when there's a tsunami coming?
>>16139686
suicide
>>16139454
Do earthquakes usually cover half the country?
>>16139686
Japanese storm chaser?
Looks like there's someone in the water swimming too.
>>16139541
Wood is more flexible during an earthquake, and also easier to rebuild if it gets washed away. Building with concrete and brick in an earthquake-prone region is stupidity.
You can see the height of the water is lowering here because of drawback.
>>16139686
Yolo :D
Here we go! Good to go! Neptune!

He doesn't want to be a car anymore. Screaming "take me" at the ocean.

Surf.
Surfing a tsunami is like the ultimate thing.
This is taking very long, is it actually coming?
They're been saying it's going to hit for 15 minutes. Needs to just happen already.
i guess love live sunshine 2 is cancelled
>>16139722
Water level still going down.
>>16139764
>>16139796
Now that I read these the earliest one hits in 2 hours, maybe the news lady is saying it's about to hit so everyone evacutes as fast as possible.
>>16139858
They are already arriving.
What kind of tsunami would a 10 generate?
>>16139901
Godzilla.
>>16139864
Oh fuck, is the wave incoming or has it passed and currently receding?
still nothing
>>16139901
Depends on location.
>>16139901
Considering there hasn't been a quake that powerful in human history, one big enough to kill millions and cause complete and utter destruction of much of the county.
>>16139908
Incoming
>>16139901
The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was 9.3
The 2011 Tohoku Tsunami was 9.1
>>16139902
Kinda makes you think what the point of the sea walls is. There's no way those will ever stop a tsunami.
>>16139926
Its to soak up some energy so all you get is flooding rather than a wall of water slam + flooding
>>16139901
Well the 9.2 earthquake in Alaska in 1962 caused a 67 meter high tsunami and raised some islands 11 meters in elevation.
Where is this being watched? I've only got the NHK link and it ain't showing me shit
Some of Fukushima has no power.
>1-3 m waves
Tubular!
>>16139941
>raised some islands 11 meters in elevation.
What? How?
SIRENS
I have no idea what these are. Rafts maybe?
>>16139981
Oyster cages maybe?
>>16139969
Y'know how some mountains are formed? When one tectonic plate goes under another and raises up some shit?
Yeah
>>16140002
That's wild
>>16139981
>>16139986
Probably some form of aquaculture.
>>16139981
Solar plates maybe
Maybe it's wrong, but some of my fondest memories on /a/ and /jp/ took place during the '11 earthquake/tsunami ordeal.
All of the jokes coming out of here and /a/ - Madoka-based ones or about that black cat chilling on a floating roof - made me laugh like nothing else.
I do hope things don't go nearly as bad in grorious Nippon as they did back then. I hope fatalities are kept to a minimum.

>Cooling systems at the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Reactor Shut Down
Nothing to worry about, right?
>>16140047
I think the news lady said they were shutting it down.
>>16140029
Stalker-posting was also fun.
>>16140047
Cooling systems being turned off is only an issue if the reactor is running. If there's no power there, I would doubt its running.
>>16140065
don't 2 of the 4 reactors still run?
>>16140029
The picture of Homerun and QB sitting on the crane or whatever over the waves was one on my favorite pictures from them. I wish I could find it again.
>>16140073
And there is no way to shut them off.
>>16140073
I have no idea, but its possible that they use 'heavy water' for the moderator which doubles as a coolant
>>16139962
>>16140047
>>16140055
>>16140065
>>16140073
News report says the reactor wasn't running, but the cooling system in one of the cooling pools for spent fuel went into automatic shutdown. No signs or panic, so it's presumably expected.
>>16140085
dozo
>>16140085
Shit, I think I know just what you're talking about.
Does anyone have the picture?
>>16140129
Nevermind. I'm an idiot who can't look a post above.
>>16140115
Thanks for posting it, anon
Looks like the party is spreading.
Miyagi prefecture's estimate got updated to 3m.
The current high score board. This is the actual observed heights, not estimate. Also the heights are still rising.
>>16140115
have another one
I keep hearing that the water is rising and that the tsunami hit some places but the video feed doesn't show that.
By the way, for comparison, here's the estimates for the 2011 tsunami. The worst areas were estimated to be 50m and many other areas were over 10m.
Right now the highest tsunami height is only estimated to be 3m so it's obviously not going to be anywhere near as bad.
just woke up in a panic
everyone daijobu?
That's really lame. Is that even a natural "disaster"?
Tbh I was expecting shit to blow up plants to catch fire and people to drown just like in animu.
>>16140338
Get your head out of Hollywood's ass, anon.
>>16140324
A 50m tsunami seems so incredible. I live in an area that can get storm surges of about 5m, which are pretty damaging. It's hard to even imagine that people went through something magnitudes greater than that.
Hopefully this one is true to forecasts and stays relatively small.
Any casualties yet?
>>16140748
well, fug :DD
>>16139405
7.3 is not such a big deal, I have to withstand that at least once a week
>>16139695
Normally no, but Japan is made out of earthquakes.
>>16140825
おお。こわい
>>16140812
what are those things stacked on the beach?
NHK translator can't pronounce "Meteorological". Cute!
>yen rises after earthquake
I don't understand.
But I'm glad it seems to be dying down.
>>16140825
My town has a river and whenever it floods it looks like that, it's scary and beatiful at the same time.
What in the fuck, please someone save glorious Japan. They already lost a million due to their horrible birthrates.
small ripples
Apparently this earthquake was an aftershock of the 2011 one. Pretty interesting stuff
This is terrifying. Glad I don't live in a place that could ever get tsunamis.
>>16139639
Woke me up too, near Tokyo. Was pretty weak here though.
>>16142337
Didn't they say the aftershock of it would hit Tokyo and itd be pretty big?
>>16139686
Drifting a wave while listening to Eurobeat.
If only we could all be so brave.
I remember watching this live with my buddy from the USGS. From the filmed perspective it was like a slow motion apocalypse.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrMH3xh_93U
Glad to hear that nothing catastrophic happened.
