book off
Don Quijote Kaheka store | BOOKOFF
The book off jingle will haunt me for the rest of my miserable life.
>a successful bookstore
What is this sorcery?
>>16075065
Buy books from people for like 50 cents
Sell books to people for like 10 dollars
???
Profit!
I bought a copy of Klonoa from there when I went to Sapporo.
>>16072519
no YOU book off, dude
>>16075713
You can book me off.
>>16076287
Ill book you in the back cover
Reminds me of this.
There is a pretty big one close to the place I work at, do they sell doujin music? I browsed it for a bit during my break but I couldn't find anything.
>>16083881
I've never seen any at my local one.
Depending on where you live, you might wanna try らしんばん or Melon Books. Plenty of non-chain-shops selling them in Akihabara or Denden Town as well.
book off rules, i spent $120 at a book off.... on 500 yen CD's
>"tablet for only 3000 yen? wow, its almost free!"
>can't even open Chrome
>"notebook for only 20.000 yen? wow, it's almost free!"
>Windows 10 consumes half of CPU and RAM
>"IPhone for only 6000 yen? wow, it's almost free!"
I need to stop this.
I drop by the one in San Diego pretty much every time I visit the city

You can reinstall better windows on the laptop. Blame your own inability. I bet, the owner also was like this. Updated to win10 automatically and was unable to go back, so got rid of it. Pathetic.
HOBBY OFF TOO :D
I love Book OFF and HOBBY OFF
Does anyone have train pictures, HOBBY off had some cool trains
This thread made me sad somehow
It's like I remembered something beautiful I once had and I cannot remember what it is and I cannot have it. Like a childhood love or a friend or something...
>>16072519
I haven't been to Book Off in nearly 3 years
>>16093151
When I read this my mind jumped straight to the gentrification of Akiba for some reason.
reminds me of the VN gsenjou no maou
>>16093214
It always feels weird to be nostalgic for something I was never alive for and never experienced
Man why the fuck do they always have the Western books right next to the porn.
>>16094196
Yeah, it seems to be a pretty common phenomenon though. You were probably alive for the most recent wave of gentrification, since it started with Densha Otoko.

Went to this one with one of the pictured orange shopping carts full of books and vidya, came away with a whopping $12.
It's a better deal than dropping this stuff at Goodwill, but yeah. Huge profit margin for them.
There used to be one here in Paris, it's been closed for now a year and it still hurts
Should have bought all their Doctor K collection instead of all these 3DS I ended up loosing
Can you buy from Book Off online?
>>16079350
post pictures of book offs
>>16075237
So it's like a pawnshop?
There are book off otaku here?
I used to spend hours watching videos of people digging through shit there
Finally gonna go myself soon, looking forward to it.
>>16093139
As well as the unfortunately named HARD OFF
We have at least 1 of these in Los Angeles county and I wasn't impressed.
>>16100829
I'm sorry. I did not buy the doujinshi in question, and have not taken any pictures of book offs myself.
>>16102364
I want to buy 90s electronics and laserdiscs
>>16102369
We have one in new york
as americanized as it is, I found a nice evangelion status for a small price
>>16072519
The fuck are those nig nogs doing in my pure race Japanese society?

What is it about Japan that gives it such a unique "look"? It's got this dense crammed-in-a-sardine-can look to it that just doesn't match anywhere else. It's a claustrophobe's nightmare.
>>16104200
South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong have the dense city look as well, but Japan just has its own twist into it.
>>16104200
Ever heard of Kowloon city? Japan just built a theme park based on it
>>16093151
Why? Did they shut these stores down? I don't live in Japan...
>>16072519
There's one of those down in San Diego
Might be the only reason one would visit San Diego
>>16075237
my professor told me he used to take his dad's old jeans to japan in the 90s and sell them at flea markets for ~$300 a piece
not that relevant but i thought it was funny
What are the book offs in America like? Are they mostly western? Or is there a good share of untranslated manga?
>>16113263
Well my experience with the NYC Book Off is mainly on the first floor, as one previous Anon had mentioned it's very Americanized. The main floor seems jam packed with American dvds and music. Also on the main floor are figures/toys of both the Japanese and Western varieties along with electronics such as stereos, computers, monitors. game consoles and even watches. They also have tons of used games of both the Japanese and Western varieties as well, some that are as old as during the SNES/Genesis era.
I haven't been on the second floor and only been to the basement once where they tuck all the anime/mangas down there and I think some of the more risque Japanese figures there as well (funny how they try to hide all this in the basement as if out of shame).
Perhaps someone who has been to the 2nd floor and basement can fill you in on those.
>>16113710
I think 2F is where the light novels were when I was there, but I haven't been since 2014. It was a pretty small selection, as far as I recall. I haven't felt the need to go back, since as you said it was mostly not books (let alone Japanese books).
>>16106120
Oh yeah. In the 90s, Levi's Red Tags were the SHIT in Nippon.
So how is the Book-Off manga selection?
Fuck the way Japan sorts manga.
Publisher first is so fucking dumb.
>>16113263
I did a grand tour of most of the SoCal BookOffs five years ago. It was mostly Japanese stuff, but maybe that has changed by now. All stores have a $1 manga section and a ~$5 manga section. Pretty good selection but you rarely find whole sets in the $1 section. They have random sales too which can be pretty crazy.
>>16113710
lol they moved the embarrassing shit to the basement? It used to be on the upper level, maybe 3-4 years ago, after they moved away from the location across the street from the main library.
