I just clicked on this thread because I realized I've never clicked on it before and I have no idea what's going on. Are you guys train enthusiasts with a particular interest in this particular train station for some reason, or am I missing something? It's a cozy thread and I like it but I'm having a hard time understanding what is going on.

I guess the thread is centered on this particular station but occasionally other stuff is posted, frequently involving trains.

This station cam is one of the few that actually has sound so you can hear the trains departing and the station announcer and people talking and stuff. This platform is also the end of the line so trains arriving and departing are traveling at fairly low speeds so there's minimal noise. Plus during the winter season it may snow which is really nice.

That's probably why they adopted it but Microsoft has basically forgotten about silverlight. It's officially supported until 2021 but Microsoft new web browser Edge isn't even capable of running silverlight. You have to use either IE or Firefox to use the plugin now.

What is the rarest thing you have seen at the station over the course of watching?

For me, it's a tie between some wildlife on the tracks during the late night and a girl that sat on the edge of the platform

What are you surprised that you haven't seen all this time?

For me its, people falling when running for the train, fighting, and people walking into each other. I have only seen one instance of what looked like a dramatic argument between a couple as they walked by where the girl was hitting the guy. DIdn't get a cap in time unfortunately

I had a dream last night where a bunch of workers came onto the tracks and disassembled the trains and packed them into little boxes and carried them off and then the stream cut to the message "Goodbye and thank you!!".

I was worried that it wouldn't get recorded properly because I have ffmpeg record the stream in 10 minute segments and it was cut halfway through but it came out fine.

I wonder if the radiation after the earthquake caused to stop snowing so much or maybe the snow might come in January. I miss those winters with massive snow in the station/rails

I think the more probable theory has to do with generally warm winter patterns the last few years (this is not exclusive to Japan either)

Working for JR would actually be a pretty sweet job as long as you don't mind working outside a lot and at night since they pretty much only do emergency maintenance during the day. It is hard work but not soul-crushing like working in an office all day.

It's not romanticism. It's a practical means of moving huge amounts of people in a small country with heavy population density. Trains aren't going anywhere over there because the alternative of cars would simply not work

Are there any subtitled Japanese documentaries on their railways available?
They've always been a topic of distant fascination to me. I'd be interested if there was anything made for domestic consumption, instead of the regular out-looking-in with envy at their shiny trains perspective one usually gets.
