And, at the end of the day, are you really even hurting sales that much by uploading a creator's works? The people who primarily use Sad Panda and the like are likely people who are unlikely to purchase doujinshi in the first place, and people who purchase doujinshi are very unlikely to stop simply because things are uploaded on the Panda. If anything, it serves as free advertisement for people who both browse panda and purchase doujinshi, at least in my opinion. People who find artists that they really like on Sad Panda are likely to search out more works by said creator. But, the decision is up to you anon, you can do as you wish.

Of people can't read moonrunes and it gets translated, the people who can't read moonrune will be grateful. If you don't translate, consider your content a "preview" like what >>15976708 said. If people can't pay/ don't know the art/artist, they might check to read the book, get knowledge on the artist, and decide.
If It's a novel, had it been a work safe novel, you'd have a good chance. A NSFW novel has a lesser chance, and a fan novel with what I read in your post? Almost guaranteed that will never be translated.

I think that if you're a fan of an author, you probably have the capability to find and contact the author in some way. Most artists have contact info in their books. My genuine advice is that regardless of the release method/location you decide on, you contact the author and ask if they're okay with uploading their works. Even if you can't communicate yourself, if you're determined enough to do things properly, you can probably find someone willing to middleman for you.

People can talk about how uploading works for free consumption is a way for people to discover the artists and give free advertisement, but that excuse has always been a load of self-serving crap. Ask the individual author whether or not they think that it's acceptable for you to upload publicly so people can discover them; otherwise that excuse is completely empty.

There's also a difference between works that are intended to be reprinted and works that will probably never be released again. The latter is a much easier target for authors to be okay with distributing, and is clearly more ethical to begin with.

As a translator who once did commission work, I'll just say some obvious things here. There's two factors: how much are you willing to pay and how much does the individual translator care about what you want translated. The more you pay, the more likely a translator is to work with you (like I said, obvious). $10-20 is the average rate for a doujin of 20 some pages so as you approach $100, the chances of something being tl'd approach 100%. But, I'm guessing from OP's post he knows Japanese and just would like to share his stuff with the west, thereby not being someone who really is invested in it being translated. So, he'd have to look for someone who reads it and cares about it. In other words, a translator who focuses on yuri, likes touhou, and doesn't mind the lack of porn. Indeed, low chances.

Bruh, you're talking about doujins from circles that produce profoundly limited runs of their books. Relatively few people outside Japan have the means to purchase these books from the circles themselves, so you're not really taking money from anyone but the stores who capitalize on the secondary market anyway.

There is a very sizeable portion of artists that sell a significant number of books through shops like Melonbooks and Toranoana. Given that they have the resources to secure consign deals with shops after doujin events, these artists are often the ones that 1) don't use their entire print run for the event, 2) are popular enough that people overseas are also interested. Depending on the circles you're talking about, scanning these works can definitely negatively impact the artists expecting consign sales from doujin shops.

If we're talking about truly small circles, that's a different matter, as these circles probably can't secure deals in the first place.

No. Because even if it's sold out, will never be printed again, and the creator won't get a single yen from sales anymore, they still don't want you to. It's really as simple as that. You can email them and politely ask, but if they're doing it themselves, they could probably just release the doujin online on their own, using the original digital files. And a handful of people have done that. Why it's not done for all releases after 5 years of not being for sale is entirely up to the artist.

There used to be a lot of people like that but it seems like a lot of secondary interest has really died off. If I were a little better at Japanese I'd inquire myself, but I'm still somewhere south of what would make a good translator.
