Yes. Since the 90s or maybe the early 2000s, "light otaku" have existed; they're not as hardcore as the other ones posted so far in this thread, but they still maintain an interest in their chosen subject that goes beyond 'I sometimes watch this TV show'. They're more difficult to recognize than typical otaku, and dress nicely free from otaku style graphic tshirts with their favorite character on them and similar. This isn't necessarily the same as being /fa/'s definition of /fa/, but you get the idea hopefully.

I know Japan has an entirely different culture when it comes to their views on tattoos and reasons behind it, but really there are two kinds of people that get inked. People who just want something trashy, because "this represents me". Those people are basically just white trash. But I respect the people who get the big intricate designs, because there's an art behind that and it takes a lot of dedication and money to get that.
