Hi, I don't know if anyone remembers but I haven't forgotten about /jp/ and I'm still writing something for all of you to read. I hope you will enjoy it on December 7!
>>
>>15820813
Maybe somebody can turn it into a VN.
>>
What is it about?
>>
I remember! I can't believe it's been 6 months though.
>>
>>15820879
>>15820821
I have three monographs on the go right now:
1. An experiment where I quit using the Internet, except for work
2. A short story involving a pathetic NEET that is totally not a mirror of myself
3. A small essay on what sets /jp/ board culture apart from the other boards

I'm most excited about the first monograph and am suspending the experiment for a day to get advance feedback on what /jp/ would like to see in the experiment

>>15820891
It's only been three!
>>
>>15820935
P.S. I actually have some of the preliminary findings for #1 already in note form - I'll post them when I get home from work

Also, I guess that this is now the OC thread since I couldn't find one.
>>
>>15820997
Can you please remake the thread with proper numbering and formatting? Use the archives to figure out the thread number. If you can't even do a simple task like that please refrain from making the OC thread. Thank you.
>>
>>15821132
I'm sorry, but the board won't let me delete the thread - I get an error message saying that it's too old to be deleted.
>>
>>15821244
Ah, yes. Another "great" feature that moot implemented before he left.
>>
>>15820813
I'm proud of you for sticking with it, Anon! How do you keep it up?
>>
>>15821303
I've done very little with my life; big projects like these usually collapse under the weight of my own laziness and incompetence.
With that in mind, this project has been a runaway success. I kept at it at first by notifying /jp/ - people are more likely to stick to plans if others are expecting them to be carried out. After a couple of weeks of success, the experiment built up momentum that helped carry me through to today after the novelty of the experience wore off and the downsides of basically living in 1994 except when I have to work started to grate on me. There have also been enormous practical benefits to this whole project which provide incentives to keep me going and have given me a lot of hope and confidence.

>>15821285
Like I said, I'm sorry.

I'm not going to spam this thread any further so I'll just post these and will be seeing /jp/ in three months.

>I actually have some of the preliminary findings for #1 already in note form - I'll post them when I get home from work
If I had to sum up my experience so far with this experiment into one sentence, it would be that "cultivating a better life by eliminating bad habits is impossible if you simply replace them with other bad habits." This is not to say that my efforts have been a waste:
- I consume a lot more japanese visual culture than I used to. Whereas I would watch 2 or 3 series every season I am now watching two every two to three weeks.
- I enjoy a lot more of what I watch and feel no obligation to see through a mediocre series through to the end instead of deleting it
- I think about things a lot more than I used to
- I no longer read the news and do not honestly care too much about what is going on outside of my city
- Best of all, my ability to concentrate on things has developed to a point I would have considered superhuman three months ago.

Of course, there are also disappointments and wholesale failures resulting from the experiment:
- My backlog is going to run out pretty soon and the quality of most professionally-subbed manga and anime is not worth the $16 per volume/$30-70 per box set I am going to have to pay if I want to watch new content. Living in the boonies does not help
- Thinking about things all the time is not necessarily healthy behaviour. I worry about things a lot more than I used to
- Being ignorant to the happenings of the world does have a negative impact: I have missed quite a few job opportunities and invitations to free dinners that were advertised solely through social media. And since my old Internet habits often led me to hunt for jobs or funding opportunities as a way of procrastinating, I now rarely look for such opportunities since using job hunting as an excuse to surf the Internet is, technically, a violation of the rules
- Contact with people I know IRL is now limited to those that work close to where I have my office or who I run into when walking
- I have actually adopted *new* bad habits: instead of shirking work by shitposting on /jp/, I shirk work by going outside and walking aimlessly in parks or suburbs for an hour. I have also gained quite a bit of weight, despite all this walking, since I spend many of my work breaks getting snack food in the university cafeteria or junk food at the end of my walks.
- I really, really regret not downloading every doujin and AV I could get my hands on before the experiment started since before I was never in the habit of saving porn to my hard drive. I now have a small archive of H anime and manga that is growing progressively more stale with every fap

That's about it! I'll use this trip when I post the full report and anything else I've written in December. Till then!

Well...

Wow I am not smart. Forget the trip then
>>
>>15821496
It's only dead when people don't make the threads following the format because it's easy to miss it on the catalog or search.

>>15821459
>>15821501
Why even bother making a thread then if you're just making an announcement for something no one cares about? No one cares about your tldr writing honestly.
>>
>>15821509
>No one cares about your tldr writing honestly
rude
I promised a couple of /jp/sies that I would write something for them and they promised that they would read it. I'm just letting them know that I haven't forgotten
>>
>>15821526
Not him but /jp/ has always been slow and lazy as fuck.
There is no need to make a tldr just to let them know, they probably have forgotten about it. Just post your stuff when it's done.
>>
>>15821604
Okay, I'm sorry.
I guess there's no reason to let this thread go on so please let it prune.

Actually, I'm a NEET, and I was going to voluntarily do jury duty, because I thought it would be interesting, and also for the 10 dollars I'd receive, and not try to avoid jury duty, but on the day it happened, I forgot to go.
Fortunately I haven't been fined for that.

It is for a ss13 server. I've been meaning to leave them though because they kind of irk me in an unknown way. There's another server that will probably go up in a couple months that I'm making sprites for so I'm excited for that.

I'm starting to make tracks and will try to upload 1 a day. I'm very new and have low end equipment so I'm still figuring out some things. Genre is techno.

Work on holding a beat/melody and work on transitions.
Also try using more "instruments." Like how these have multiple things going on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hih8qFdHWJ8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H-hUPTalYk

Keep at it. Right now though, it sounds like a couple of minute+ long "intros" that never get to the main part.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCdAJVcy9Ag

Like with this one, it's simple, but there's still 2 things going on right from the beginning.
>>
>>15862867
>left speaker only
That hurts my ears.
>>
On that topic, how do I make good FM music? I can only do things with traditional trackers: whenever I try to make something FM, the FM instrument sounds awful and garbage.

Is something wrong with your speakers?
>>
>>15863912

Is this the new OC thread?
>>
>>15865535
It says OC and has OC in it, does it not?
>>
>>15864286
Sorry about that, I'm not sure what's causing the issue. The graph in Audacity seems to appear even.

>>15863020
Thank you. I posted a new song that has a little more going on, and I turned the recording sound down too a bit. It's still a 'long intro' but I'm probably going to use those a bit more until I get the hang of transitioning between patterns and editing on the fly.
>>
>>15863915
Unlike subtractive synthesis, FM is harder to predict, so experiment. With time you'll figure out what kind changes makes what kind of sound, and you will be able to get what you want faster. If you keep at it you might become an FM magician.
>>
>>15867945
Also, study patches made by other people.
>>
>>15867945
>>15867949
Thank you. But what is a patch? The program I was using for FM, LMMS, doesn't seem to use that terminology. And if I should change to a different program (or shouldn't) which should I use? Right now I'm most familiar with milkytracker.
>>
>>15871403
Patches are called presets in LMMS. Did you use the StereoEnhancer effect? It ends up sounding left-heavy rather than wide.

Pattern 6 Needs some rap lyrics to go with it. Is it just a remake/slowdown of pattern 3?

Your "random noises" in the tracks give the impression of being "too random" with the way they're inserted, but this is probably due to the short length of the tracks, or just you experimenting.

Pattern 7 is pretty good.

Here's the loading of items via json. You can even specify the amount of macronutrients! (although right now it only looks at the calories from those - later it'll affect other stuff)

Should I work on that now? (ie malnourishment, etc)

Or work on other stuff?

>>15899151

>>
File: relationships.png (41KB, 662x626px) Image search: [Google]
relationships.png
41KB, 662x626px
>>15899224

There's a variable that keeps track of how much a loli loves you, but there's no context to it. There's no like friend, lover, daddy, master, etc. I would imagine most relationships like those would have to be hard-coded, rather than just some values.

Maybe love / devotion / ???, but even then Daddy vs etc would still be a unique thing. I was going to just have the lolis have a name they call you, and you could order them to call you something or maybe the flag would just get set from certain dialogue events?

// Current status (mental)
int hope; //mind-broken yet? (0 to 100)
int willingness; //willingness to do a given action (-100 to 100)(derived from trust+fear+love?)
int trust; //might merge with willingness (-100 to 100)
int fear; //fear of the player (0 to 100)
int love; //love of the player (-100 to 100)

That's what I have in the Loli's Soul class, but I am not really doing anything with those variables yet. What do you think I should do? They're some of (if not the only?) variables I had in the original NPC class that I haven't actually started using.

>>15899219

Reminds me of a bug where all the lolis at a certain time of day would all head out into the forest way in the top corner of the map. It was pretty amusing seeing every single loli in the entire town wandering into the forest at once. Turned out it was just me mixing up a coordinate in tile-space and in world-space (1 tile is 32 world-units), I think.

Vectoring is too much work, unless you're printing or making something huge.
I would make separate pieces in flash (ie. her wings, legs and arms) and use the bone tool to move them, it's easier if they're tweening (sliding) versus drawing each frame moving.
Not sure about that bounce/squish effect when they move, though.

About two years ago, I posted in one of these threads about a "light novel" series I was working on. It didn't get much attention back then, but I went on to heavily edit and rewrite the story and eventually self-published it, so that at least somebody might read it. The first part is free, so if you have nothing better to do, knock yourself out.

In the unlikely event you get hooked, there are three (soon four) sequels. And if you somehow get hooked, but not to the point of wanting to pay for more, you can look up my website which has pdfs for vol2-3 free of charge as well.
>>
>>15930172
Is it looked down upon by weebs if a story isn't as Japanese as one can make it not being Japanese themselves? I work on lots of ideas, although my completion of any beyond ideas is nearly 0, but my characters and locations basically never take place in Japan and any Japanese names/characters are limited to the few Japanese people that would be in places like USA or wherever. (They actually seem to end up using German and Russian names when I want someone exotic sounding, which now that I consider it, is probably anime influence.)

But, if you saw some moe moe looking characters, or even some more archaic looking designs like 90s/80s game/VN era and they were named stuff like Tracy, Ray, Kiana, Gretchen, Lulu, Marcus and stuff like that, would it be really jarring?

>Is it looked down upon by weebs if a story isn't as Japanese as one can make it not being Japanese themselves?

I think it's the opposite, really. I've mostly seen comments online questioning people why they would attempt to write about Japanese characters when they're not Japanese themselves and "can't possibly understand the culture". No one has asked me that directly, but in general.

I've also written and self-published some stories that are set in Europe, with fully western characters, just with annie-may style covers. But regardless of how people feel about the matter, looking at the raw numbers, those stories don't draw nearly as many downloads as this series does.

I think you should just tell what you want to tell and worry about people's reactions after.
>>
>>15930704
>looking at the raw numbers,
What are the numbers like?
>>
>>15934757
Well, the success of self-publishing, regardless of genre, depends entirely on how active you are at promoting yourself online. I don't really do that, unless shitposting on twitter counts. Since April, I've still made enough revenue to pay off my monthly playstation plus subscription, so that's better than I dared to expect.

I'd like to believe that if you're not a total autist like me, but have some entrepreneur-spirit and presence online, willing to go to junkyards like leddit or tumblr to make noise, you could easily move like even 100-200 copies a month. Most western self-publishers can't do any better, so I don't think weebness is a real obstacle to finding your audience.
>>
>>15935518
I just meant what are your numbers like "200 average downloads for European stories and 1000 for the Japanese ones"
>>
>>15935545
Well, I kinda hoped you would infer a rough approximation from my post without me having to bore everybody with the specifics or check the records. It's not really related to the thread or otherwise constructive.

But in a quick, rough estimate, the Japan-set series outnumbers the western ones at a ratio of like 6:1, with the total downloads numbering in around 350, including retail and my homepage. But like I said, the download count depends on a lot of things that don't really have to do with the contents, so it's hard to draw any meaningful conclusions from that.

Alright /jp/! More progress on the AI. I'm working in the group-AI-events that I started a year or whatever ago but then never ended up implementing (e.g. group games, like tag, etc)

Well I started tying that in, along with the existing event system, into my behavior tree system!

I'm not sure how to handle NPC dialogue though, from a programming perspective. 1-on-1 ones could be easy to program via the behavior trees I think, although I don't know if I want to have basically an emulation of the player-NPC dialogue option-choosing (maybe using the same system?) where the response to a dialogue thing could depend on which response matches their attributes. Yeah, maybe it's good to use the exact same system? Although I think that might lead to a lot of files, so maybe I should have the ability to inline dialogue responses into a file as deep as I want, instead of forcing multiple files, one for each decision-point?

>>15939981
>/vg/ dev with his kidnapper game

B-but I posted it on /jp/ like a year before I posted it on /vg/! /jp/ is where it all began.

loliscript dialogue.png

>>15940923

For context, here's a dialogue file. If you're at a node that links to this, it'll run requirements (which is optional - for here it's redundant to say allow scenario since that's the default, but I put it there to demonstrate), and if the block evaluates to allowing, it'll let the link show up. If you select "Do you want some candy, little girl?" it'll run this file and look at the attributes tag of the two outcomes here. Whichever matches the loli's attributes better (the * 3 means give 3 times the priority to this attribute vs the other attributes being matches - not useful here since only 1 attribute is being matched though., and the 0-5 means anything between those ranges is matched 100%, whereas the = 20 means only 20 is matched 100%.) and whichever matches better will be chosen, and the message block will get run, which decides what the loli says (multiple outcomeMessage calls are how you can get a sequence of messages without any choice). And the result block gets run for the message that gets chosen. Then once the messages are done being displayed, it runs links, and all the links run there will be where the conversation branches from.

Should I do something like this for the inter-loli dialogue? Basically the same, except I'd have to give the overall file its own attributes block since there is no player to make choices and I'd have to make the the choices via the NPC's attributes.

Although maybe this will be a bit much? I imagine most conversations between NPCs might (initially?) be quite simple, so maybe I should make a simpler system? Although it'd be a bit annoying to see the exact same conversations play out every single time... but I guess I could break out all the non-branching choices in the NPC-NPC dialogue into a single file where you could be like...

message(npc1, "Hey, " + name(npc1))
message(npc2, "Hey!")
message(npc2, "How are you doing, + name(npc1))

There! Now lolis can play tag together! As well as have more inter-NPC coordination/communication. They can spontaneously start group AI stuff (group activities/coordinations) like that game of tag in the park. I guess I could use it for sex too in the dungeons if your lolis get bored + horny + are bisexual/lesbian.

That's already a thing, sort of. Pic related. Although I should probably put the onAccept/onReject stuff in a std::function or something so you can cusotmize it to each activity, since not all activities would have the same rejection effects.

The person asking to join an activity only joins if there are more yes responses than no responses. Right now they always say yes, but I will later make it change depending on how much they like the other girl. However, right now getting rejected doesn't do anything - I could make it affect their mood and such though easily.

I could maybe consider that. Do you guys all have a bullied loli fetish or something?

Rude lolis! Also worked on car pathing and shit. Added cars back in. They were disabled since I had removed the car-path-graph since it broken when I changed the town generaiton stuff when I switched over to the new graphics. Added in some minor improvements to it too, like now cars drift towards the center of the lane slowly, and if they drive past a waypoint they'll now go towards the next one instead of turning around to go back to it.

But I'm not sure what to work on now.

I mean there's a lot to be done, but some might take a while...

* Work on police AI (would need some pathfinding re-work I think to make non-traffic-abiding car pathing work, and also probably something that synchronized the on-foot + in-car pathing)

* Work on loli-looking-after post-kidnapping. Maybe some GUIs for some stats, adding in toilets (right now they just piss on the ground if they have a full bladder), other stuff like that?

* Work on more NPC-NPC interactions (maybe some quick-simulated things so I can simulate an entire day in like a few ms, so that I can simulate like 10 years of events to have 10yo lolis? - although this is a bit weird since those would be probably all-alone things, but how would I do npc-npc interactions? spawn them all then coordinate one big thing? might be weird if some lolis wouldn't be born when you're simulating others...)

* Something else?

>>16001118

>>
>>16001155
Please, "standard brushes" are the round ones. Even if the textured one you're using that gives off all those random lines (remember testing it once, but not sure which software was it on) is easily accessible it's not a "standard" brush.

Again, your pieces gives off a nice look at first, but once you look into it it's quite weak at every levels. You're not trying with hands, head is a bit deformed, and there are perspective problems, like that belt thing on her left leg. You're also overusing that textured brush that gives off messy random lines for the clothes folds, instead of properly doing them. That can "do the trick" for people that doesn't draw, but in the end won't hide the fact you can't really do proper folds shading.
Also, your lines are really inconsistent in quality, which shows the good parts are more "happy accidents". For example, the thick variated lines on the (her) left arm looks neat, but why not have them as well on the hair and leg? You should study line weigh.

Again, don't rely too much on those textured brushes if you don't want to stagnate.

There, I worked on fertility today. Pic related.

What kind of information for it should I display? Like I could show a visual depiction of the womb with the sperm traveling through it to the egg, I guess, so you could see how much is how far away.

How much info should I even give the player? Let him infer it by talking to the loli? Or explicitly have a menu somewhere that shows where in her menstrual cycle she is? (assuming she has hit menarche yet, otherwise she'd be infertile)

...which brings me to a bug, I just realized that the code as-is would never clear the sperm out of the womb of prepubescent lolis, so their wombs would continue to accrue semen until their first period, at which point they'd have like a 100% chance of getting knocked up. I better go fix that...

>>16010841

Cute loli! I love it. Cute little girls in blue sukumizu are the best.
>>
>>16010889
Thanks, glad you like it.

>show a visual depiction of the womb with the sperm traveling through it to the egg
Or have a progress bar with egg on the end and the sperm moving with the bar

>How much info should I even give the player?
I dunno, maybe you could have the player talk to the girl and from then on, the data is available from a menu?

Also, what language is that?

With some kind of width to show the amount of sperm? Or just a fixed amount to show that there is sperm?

There's been pubescent girls for as long as the game has been around. Even the first version generated girls between the age of 4 and 14.5

And the other demos from 2015 had adults even, but they just reporeted you to the cops if you molested lolis, you couldn't rape them. I do plan on letting you though, primarily so you can turn them into breeding slaves to make lolis with.
>>
>>16011656
Ah, I see, I see.
>rape MILFs
This is a good step. But this reminds me: can you form some sort of romantic relationship with a loli/MILF? Can you have them expect or not expect something for valentines day or the anniversary of your relationship?

Shotas are planned, but I was planning them as only for breeding lolis, to make selective breeding easier. I also have an idea where if the MC gets too old, he can choose one of his sons to take over for him. I don't know if I'll make this permanent, or if I'll let you arbitrarily switch over and control random shota sons - or maybe only once they reach adulthood? But loli x shota is hot as fuck...

>>16011715

Right now, no. I haven't really fleshed out that much though, they just get one arbitrarily assigned at birth. When I do work on it I'll probably do something with it. For now it's just another unused stat...

>>15992652

Varied with respect to behaviour, or looks? The goal, I don't know.
>>
>>16011729
If you made some of the code more general for humans, then a shota's code wouldn't be too different from a loli's except for in relevant ways. Interesting, though. Also, I didn't notice this, but the white font you use, particularly in the tag game gif, someone said that it would be more readable with a black outline.
>>
>>16011759

It is the same code for both - it's more of a artwork thing. Making sex animaitons for shotas doubles the animation work, basically. Plus I don't really like shotas...

>someone said that it would be more readable with a black outline.

Like a one pixel outline, or like a black display box? I was originally gonna have a small black rectangle (with a 1px white outline) around the text, but then was too lazy to add it.

Well I thought about the loli trading aspect and then mocked this up. Would it work? Can you think of anything that would be good to keep in mind for it? Right now I could start off just with the ability to buy/sell lolis, then later I was thinking of adding the ability to prostitute them out, or to produce (possibly custom) pics/videos with the girls for money. But those aren't needed at first and should wait until more core features of the game are in, but I think just having a buying/selling menu like this would be pretty easy to make.

Other things I was hoping to work on before releasing a demo (probably around Christmas/new years?) would be like...

*Making cop AI less shit

*getting saving/loading working (it saves/loads some things now, but not all - this is what I was working on the past couple weeks which is why I haven't been posting, since there's not really any visual progress to post with this)

I dunno. The last paragraph of this page seems pretty cool
https://nhentai.net/g/175648/25/

It just seems weird that you can only sell them when you run out of space. You'd think they'd let them go but in a way that wouldn't get them in trouble or kill them and bury them or something.

Capturing them, breeding them, and then selling them seems too...
much like a breeding monster raising game, I suppose would be the best way to put it.
