Most threads are just people shitposting or spamming, so they get pruned.

Touhou is a doujin game series of STG, while Kancolle is a browser game that gets confused as being a mobile game. Doujin is way more /jp/ related than corporate games, which is probably one reason iM@S is mostly on /vg/ now.

Also unlike iM@S and Touhou, there's nothing really to discuss about Kancolle except experiences playing, anime, and fan comics/art.

Touhou has fan games, " "official " " comics, fan music, fan animations, as well as fan comics/art and many actual games.

iM@S also has many games, fan comics, official comics, music, multiple anime, and so on. Basically both Touhou and iM@S as established years old things. As in more than a decade old. Kancolle just isn't big or established enough, despite being popular. It's just one game, so it's regulated to the likes of other singular games.

It has been producing more fan content on a yearly basis than IM@S. Being smaller than Touhou doesn't make you "relatively nothing" because Touhou is one of the largest multimedia franchises around.

People have been testing the waters with flagship characters and those threads rarely go anywhere because there's nothing to do with most characters except dump images and spout memes. There's just less to talk about for any given character than with, say, Touhou.

IM@S is kind of the same (people don't talk about the games much), but the few characters that people do care about have dedicated fans who keep things floating along, and because they don't spend all their time stalking one general they actually see the rest of /jp/ sometimes. Nothing is really stopping you from trying except a general lack of interest.

It's less of that, and more of the posters just don't bother. Most would just stalk the lone /a/ thread if they want to talk about the girls, since a lot of those who play the game detest secondaries (and not without good reason; the much maligned anime was clearly made by secondaries) and so won't even think of going to the random character threads on /jp/ in the first place, and even secondaries don't come here much either because most people, whether they play the game or not, regard /jp/ as the place to talk about the game so they aren't likely to think about talking about the characters here.

In short, while it's true that talking about KanColle characters isn't so welcome here, it's not just that; it's also that they don't bother to bring their discussion over either. At least, that's what I've observed.
