Does /jaypee/ use a futon, how are they? I am interested because my back is hurting a lot and I want to try something new.

Put a bunch of blankets on the floor, the lay on them, that's how it feels.
A futon is not a magical Japanese bed that makes you live longer. It's just a piece of foam that poor people in Japan sleep on because they can't even afford an ikea bed.
Some people may have $900 futons but the japs eats y mercury laced whale and dolphin so if you trust those types of people to give you health advice be my guest

There's absolutely no reason to want to sleep on a futon. They suck and are uncomfortable, whether it's some random futon at a house, or one at a ritzy ryokan.
I do however own an American "futon." It's one of the models that fold into a couch. It's convenient to nap or lounge on, and can be used to seat any guests you may have.
i'm looking for something to complete my room, do you guys think a nice futon would be a good match for my oversized glass cup with a dead tree stuffed in it?

I sleep in those beds shaped like race cars, double the win.

That room instead of being relaxing it reminds me of an asylum.

That's a hard call. I think it could work, just as long as you stripped out all of the flooring and laid the futon directly on bare concrete.
Also make sure that the only things in the entire room are the futon, the dead tree, and a small stack of books.

The most important thing is that you don't put any sheets or blankets on your futon
