After listening to many of ZUN's MIDIs through the SC-88Pro, it's kind of obvious that the unique sound of Dolls in Pseudo Paradise is based from its instruments. Like, the "violin" in the songs was a predecessor to the ZUNpet.

Give these a listen, they might have what you are looking for.

In particular, I find ZUN's MIDIs to usually be superior to the FM composition, especially if the song is rearranged.

Torte Le Magic has an amazing soundtrack, and Seihou is a mixed bag if great and meh.

Just listened to Dateless Bar Old Adam and I though it was ok. some of the melodies and instrumentation is really nice like Adventurer's Tavern, but the songs felt really repetitive, more so than any of ZUN's other songs

The Darkness Brought in by Swallowstone Naturalis Historia is unexpectedly bright
