Also might as well throw it out there. Anyone interested in a flac copy of Teenage Nekurapop? Not exactly hard to find online, but it's the only album I own physically. I usually don't bother and just pick up stuff digitally, but I was surprised to find it in a local bookstore.

I suggest following a guide on how to rip losslessly with ExactAudioCopy. Chances are your discs are in mint shape so it's possible to get a 100% bit for bit accurate rip. Setting it up can be kind of tricky if you're new to it, but there's guides to help, and once it's set up all you have to do is query a tag database to fill in CD information, detect pre-track gaps, then test & rip.

I dunno about 60th summer of love being in mint shape, I bought it used off of mandarake and it looks a little beat up. It is ancient after all.

So what are all the advantages of saving in lossless versus 320kbps or vbr-0? I just load it onto my phone and listen from there, so the amount of space it takes up never seemed worth it.
>>
>>15667893
You can't tell the difference between FLAC/ALAC and a mp3. Maybe, maaybe, if you had an audiophile setup with a DAC and amp and a LCD-3. On a PC or phone with standard headphones, there's no discernable difference.
>>
>>15668126
lossless is better for archiving because it doesn't suffer from rotational velocidensity
>>
>>15667893
>>15668126
The point of lossless isn't for listening, it's so you can transcode it to different formats.
You store the FLAC on your hard drive which has a lot of space, then transcode it to MP3 or AAC for your phone which has smaller storage.
Then if you get a new phone with more storage, you can convert the FLAC to higher bitrate/different format for your new phone. If you just had the original MP3s, you couldn't do anything about the quality.
>>
>>15667893
Lossless is just for people who want to make accurate burned copies of the disc later on and people who don't want to worry whether or not the rip they have is a really lossy transcode that could sound a lot better. I'm one of the latter.

If your discs have visible holes (hold it up to a light bulb) or very deep scratches they'll still rip just not 100% accurately. Worst case is they'll skip. EAC will alert you when that happens and you can review the tracks or abort the rip.
>>
>>15668194
Alright, I think I get it now. Since I'm fine with my stuff just being in 320kbps, guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing.

I'll try and get 60th summer of love in flac for anon, though that guide looks kind of... hm. Well I never claimed to be smart.

>wouldn't be taken seriously by the western crowd

And they'd take that seriously? Idols?

Honestly, while I really don't see them choosing Miku, I don't see why they couldn't. It's a very Japanese thing, and Miku has worldwide reach already. The only real issue I see with it is, as someone said earlier, it'd be kind of weird having a screen projection image perform for an athletics event.

It'd be a very unique experience for anyone who's new to the idea of virtual idols. I think it'd be cool desu but I'm biased because I love Miku more than anything. I'd love to see her perform at such a prestigious event. But would the organizers want everyone to witness this event to think they praise something that is mostly associated with Otaku culture? I drink they'd reach for a more consumable pop idol group to represent their country and maintain face.

Yes, pic related, look how cute they are.
>>
So, anyone else here who doesn't like the project diva games?

I honestly tried and couldn't get into them. The note timing is too wonky, and having only cryptonloids really limits it. The bells and whistles are nice (there are some great modules) but the actual game is just eugh to me.
>>
>>15680245
I was just thinking about this song the other day. Talk about a twist, right? No one saw that coming.
>file name
...y'know maruku naru is way shorter and more descriptive
>>
>>15680252
Like all rhythm games, it gets more fun the better you get at it. Starting out and only playing normals and light hards is pretty boring but when you get into extreme, it starts to feel more like a proper rhythm game. I didn't like it at first, when I played the original on the PSP however long ago, but playing it in the arcade, or on a console with a minicontroller is way way different. If you're a big arcade rhythm guy and regularly clear like 14s in IIDX or SDVX or whatever, then it would probably feel underwhelming since even 10s in PJD are really technically basic, it's just hard as fuck to read.

Come on, I didn't personally name it that way. My Vocaloid pics folder is just a huge mess with stuff from all over the place and picked that one on a whim.

But indeed that song was quite the adventure.

>>
>>15680252
Project Mirai DX is my favorite rhythm game. Who cares if it's easy baby-mode, that song list.
>>
>>15680305
I play a lot of pop'n and have dabbled in IIDX, and I guess I was comparing it to those when I tried it, also on the PSP a long time ago. I couldn't ever find that 'groove' to hit the notes accurately. It felt to me, and I know this is gonna sound weirdly specific, but it felt like someone going into stepmania and making a stepchart while setting the step divisions to 1/32 and just hitting the keys on the keyboard to the song without making the effort to actually time it.

I... I might've... done that when I was younger.
>>
>>15680435
The design philosophy on charts in really inconsistent. Some feel really solid and some are a mess.
>>
>>15680252

Future Tone was my first Project Diva game. I wasn't too impressed desu.

I am sure it is different in the arcade and probably more enjoyable at home if you have an actual controller, but with a normal ps4 controller I find the game somewhat difficult to get invested in.

The videos and songs and costumes are all really great to look at but when you are playing the game, they don't really mean much.

I rather play a video/song from Project Diva inside Osu! to get a better rhythm game experience.
>>
>>15680658
Playing a rhythm game with a DS4 is certainly less than ideal, and I'm eagerly anticipating my Hori controller, but even that's still better than playing some garbage like osu which isn't even a rhythm game.
>>
>>15680686
>Osu isn't rhythm
What is it then
>>
>>15680723
A game where you click circles, to the beat.

Obviously not a rhythm game

47KB, 500x280px
>>15680735
You're right...
>>
>>15680723
It's a game with rhythmic elements but it's as much a rhythm game as GTAV is a racing game or Uncharted is a shooting game.
>>
>>15680755
What else do you do in Osu besides matching your clicks to the beat of music? I guess it also has the engaging "Select your song through the menu" part. That's a pretty fun gameplay mechanic.
>>
>>15680787
Their comments sound like bait, if you ask me.

Osu! is obviously a rhythm game. To say it is not a rhythm game is arguing semantics and only means that your personal definition of "rhythm game" is very specific or antiquated.
>>
>>15680787
The aiming portion of the gameplay outweighs the rhythm portion by a significant amount. If "aiming games" where a thing, that's what it would be.
>>
>>15680828
Okay but osu! is a rhythm game. That's like saying the PD games are finger-moving games because you move your fingers more than play to music.

I'm not defending osu!, it's pretty mediocre and didn't hold my interest long, just calling u out on ur sick b8 brah. 7/10 I replied several times.
>>
>>15680874
>Okay but osu! is a rhythm game.
*aiming game with rhythm elements
>That's like saying the PD games are finger-moving games because you move your fingers more than play to music.
Then 99.9% of games would be "finger moving games". There are very few games which you don't use your fingers. Did you think about this thought at all before you typed it?
>>
>>15680897
You're reaching pretty deep here bruh.
>>
>>15680897
It has as much "aiming" as any other of that kind of rhythm game. What is it that makes it less of a rhythm game than jubeat or reflec beat?
>>
>>15681111
What rhythm games have any aiming mechanic in it? Reflec Beat and PJD are still more or less standard VSRGs in terms of gameplay but the scrolling isn't exclusively vertical.
Look, imagine osu without it's aiming mechanic. That's called the relax mod, right? What if some dude was like "yeah I'm really good at osu I can perfect freedom dive with relax" you'd think he was an idiot, because without the aiming, it's stupid baby tier easy mode.
I'll even humor you, let's say because of lack of better terminology, osu is a "rhythm game". Starcraft and Plants vs Zombies are both "strategy games" but you think anyone would even consider them comparable?
>>
>>15681225
>What rhythm game have an aiming mechanic
EBA, Theatrhythm, Project Mirai's tap mode

Technically all controller based ones do because you aim your fingers before you press the button.

Next you'll say DDR isn't rhythm, it's dancing. Or a "stomping and holding the back bar" game for plebs
>>
>>15681225
Maybe I'm missing something here. I've never played osu, but for the sake of this argument I had looked up some videos on youtube, and I didn't see in any way how it has more "aiming" than it does rhythm matching, unless the "aiming" we're talking about is hitting the circle, which you do in literally every rhythm game like this. So is it something I have to play osu to understand? Because I'm not gonna do that.
>>
>>15681254
Citing some DS games as examples of rhythm games with aiming elements really proves my point better than yours, honestly. It's accurate to bring up EBA though since I forgot osu is just a Ouendan port.
Why is it that just because a game has music and rhythmic elements, it has to be a "rhythm game"? Are Audiosurf, Just Dance, and PaRappa the Rappa rhythm games?
>>
>>15681301
Yes. Rhythm is the genre, those games fall in subgenres.
>>
>>15681311
Okay, if that's the definition of rhythm game that you feel comfortable using, then osu is a really, really shitty rhythm game.
Now we're both happy.
>>
>>15681317
Keep in mind, I did say a few posts ago I wasn't defending it as a good or fun game. It is what it is.

A boring rhythm game.
>>
>>15681323
I'm gonna have to stick with my personal "rhythmic elements" buzzword but the whole point of the tirade was an anon said osu was "a better rhythm game experience." which is certifiably wrong.
>>
>>15680252
How is the note timing wonky?
I get not liking the core gameplay very much but the timing is not off save for a handful of songs in FT which I think are all fixed now.
>>
>>15681344
To each his own, I suppose.

Honestly, if Project Diva did not have Miku and friends... I can't imagine myself purchasing it or showing any interest.

I rarely find myself watching people play Project Diva (I do watch the actual songs/videos on youtube without the ugly notes though), but I do get a good amount of enjoyment watching someone play Osu.
>>
>>15669714
yes it did, thank you so so much man
>>
>>15681408
Pretty much just what I said here >>15680435

It was the first project diva game, and I haven't tried it since, but it seems that other people have no problems with the timing in the first game, which means it's unlikely my experience would be improved playing a later version.
>>

>>
>>15682934
I can't speak for the first game since I never had a psp, but playing everything since PDf I can sort of see what you're saying, but only in a few very specific instances in 10 star songs with odd parts but overall I think it feels very standard.

Again I'm not pretending it's the GOAT rhythm game or that you should even pick it up but I really never felt like the timing was that off, maybe you're more sensitive to controller latency?
>>
>>15682934
I think maybe what you're trying to say isn't that the timing is off but that some of the charts are synced weird? Cause I can kind of see that. Like in FT, Blackjack and Sexy Melody immediately come to mind as being just awkward to play.
>>
>>15680252
I imagine a Stepmania-esque clone of project diva on PC would likely manage some mainstream success. It'd be dope if it could render MMD motion data for the videos too.
>>
>>15683370
>There will never be a Sega vs Konami "DivaMania"

>>
>>15684183
Anyone can make it, illegally unlicensed, and there's nothing any lawyer can do about it. The pirate vocaloid game on Google Play is unreal right now and nothing's being done about it. Vocaloid producers don't care. Vocaloid is a fan-fueled culture that can't be quelled by legal nonsense. It's here and queer; it can't be understood by most, but it's going to stay because it has dedicated individuals like us to follow it. It was derived with the promise of giving creators control and it's our role to preserve that promise.

We can do literally anything we want to promote the music and a fan made game sounds absolutely ideal.

Great, excellent upload anon. I purchased it myself so I don't want to spoil the experience just yet. And well, sasakure.UK was always huge on the vocaloid scene, so I guess any vocaloid fan worth their salt wouldn't mind hearing more of his music, despite the lack of vocaloid.

Have you considered that her voice sucks?
>>
>>15698864
That didn't stop Rin from becoming (a little) popular
>>
>>15698885
But Rin sounds great if used correctly? And I'm not even that much of a Rin Len fan.

I don't like shitting on what others like and all but I have to agree that Meiko is lacking something. I never ever listened to a Meiko song thinking "oh damn that's pretty good". Her voice is just awkward.
>>

>I never ever listened to a Meiko song thinking "oh damn that's pretty good".
But you're free to prove me wrong of course.

>>
>>15698999
You must've never listened to old Rin. They've made a lot of progress but she in particular sounded terrible in the beginning.
>>
>>15698885
Since when does Rin sound bad?

I don't think Meiko sucks, it's just that, compared to the more popular vocaloids, she just sounds a lot less polished, even when tuned well.
>>
>>15699050
Meh. It was just all in the tuning, I mean, Meltdown is Rin V2 and it holds up pretty well. Len was much worse in the beginning (before the appends and V4).
>>
>>15699057
>>15699062
Vocadloid2 Rin "act1" was so bad, or if it makes you feel better, so "poorly received" that they had to make act2 to make up for it.
Maybe you've forgotten what it was like.
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm2582693
And I think Meltdown is act2
Meiko handles high notes very poorly but let's not pretend like Rin is perfect.
>>
>>15699119
Meiko was also way worse in her original version, before the V3.

Also, why does what Rin sounded like 9 years ago matter? She's popular because she sounds good now, and Meiko's lack of success doesn't have anything to do with Rin.
>>
>>15698999
Have some recommendations (some are duets). I get what you're saying, Meiko can sound tinny sometimes.

Finally got my copy in the mail. Another essential for my collection.

That's also the last of my Amazon grabs. Amazon only has mainstream stuff like exit tunes compilations. Is there another good place to look for more underground stuff new or used? On that note I'd pay hundreds for かめりあ's discography.

That was probably me. To be fair, it has zero to do with being a collector and everything to do with trying to shield my CDs as much as possible from the Florida heat and humidity. Does that extra thin layer of plastic even do anything for that? I dunno! Makes me feel better though.

>She's popular because she sounds good now
She was popular before she sounded good. She sounds better now and is less popular. VY1 sounds better than any CV and is less popular than all of them. Voicebank quality and popularity have little to no relationship.
>>
>>15699119
>Maybe you've forgotten what it was like.
I think it still sounds cute and is better than Meiko, but more than that these kinds of songs are not the best offender. Most Vocaloids, Miku especially, have these sorts of songs where they don't especially sound very well because it's almost talking rather than singing, tuning is generally raw and the instruments are anime-tier.
>>
>>15699642
She was popular because there were little vocaloids besides her. Remember she came out the same year as Miku. She's still popular now because she's good and is still riding the Crypton hype train.

Popularity and quality are absolutely related though. VY1 is good quality, but the lack of a cute character avatar kills her. ALL of the popular vocaloids have two things in common: good design and good quality. All the other less popular vocaloids are lacking in one or both of those areas.
>>
>>15700020
Thanks for actually proving my point.
>Rin has an okay bank and good design and is popular
>Meiko has an okay bank but not as good of a design and is less popular
>VY1 has a good bank but no design and is not popular
And the vocaloid with the best design is coincidentally also the most popular despite her bank not being the best.
>>
>>15699020
>http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm24797397
I liked the song but here again her voice at times "derails" and it feels "out of sync". It often feels as if two voices were singing at the same time but with milliseconds difference (I AM AWARE Kaito and Rin are doing the chorus here - this is NOT what I am referring to). It seriously irritates me.

>>15699364
>http://youtu.be/lYt4VA1mcrU
Her mid-highs or even highs sound nice, I like it, but her lows are terrible, it sounds like a robot. You know like in these retro pixel games where they'd put noises of different frequencies depending on which character is singing? Cool song otherwise.

Ahh that's cheating, I really love that song, and I must this is a very nice cover. Cheers. Sadly as I typed above it feels as if her voice bugs out a bit (on her low-mids) at times. Sorry if I appear like a cherry-picky asshole.

Was sweet.

Thanks for the links anons, was fun. It's a shame because I quite like Meiko's design (I love short haired girls and am somewhat into "mature" women - voice-wise Luka and Yukari are my favorite) and wish I could get into her more. Doesn't help that my favorite artists have never used here; I feel like her voice would fit otetsu's style, I wish he had tried using her a bit.

>the vocaloid with the best design is coincidentally also the most popular
Yukari's not the most popular. Although it'd be great if she were, but right now she's not.

What're you even trying to accomplish here? There's no way you're confused on this, it was pretty clear.
>>
>>15700908
>>the vocaloid with the best design is coincidentally also the most popular.
and
>Yukari's not the most popular.
are both true statements.

>>
>>15700917
The first one is incorrect because of the second one.
>What're you even trying to accomplish here?
>>

>>
>>15700160

>>
>>15701032
>If quality is one of the two attributes necessary for a vocaloid to be popular
Work on your reading comprehension, chap.
>>
>>15700160
Meiko's design is not the issue, though. Her voicebank sucks, and that's always been the problem.
>>
>>15701056
But her voice bank isn't that bad. And if her voice bank was the reason for her unpopularity (even though she sounds at least as good as Luka) then why aren't vocaloids with good voice banks more popular?
>>
>>15701090
You might like her voice and that's fine, but it's just so unpolished and there are other vocaloids to use instead of Meiko. Even Luka has fallen off by a lot after her awful update, and she used to be quite popular.

What vocaloids with good voice banks that aren't popular are we talking about here? I can only think of VY1, and the reason for her lack of popularity is obvious.
>>
>>15701090
>even though she sounds at least as good as Luka
She isn't, Luka (V2) is much more consistent. I mean, Meiko herself sounds fine, but she has a lot of issues and they never managed to fix them.

I don't think her design held her back, mostly the reason was her voicebank.
>>
>>15701177
I do think design has something to do with it. I mean, it's so incredibly plain. It's not bad, but there's just pretty much nothing to it. Sure there's no formula for popularity (and those who say there is are deluded), but a good design definitely ups your chances.

>>15701161
Lapis has a great quality voicebank, and in my opinion, a great design too. And then there's all the wholoids that Internet cranked out in a futile effort to replicate gumi's success. Perfectly nice banks, but no one gives a shit about them. I regularly forget kokone and chika even exist.
>>
>>15701161
Pretty much every vocaloid at this point sounds as fair as any other one. Even the English ones sound okay. Conversely, very few vocaloids have notably good voicebanks, and even then, regardless of the vocaloid, it's up to the manipulator to tune them well.
>>
>>15701200
>I do think design has something to do with it.
I'm not disagreeing, I just don't think it the was the sole or even main reason her popularity died out. I think her voice held her back for the most part, and a combination of her voice + design.
>>
>>15701200
There's also a factor of saturaziation I think. The vocaloid community isn't small but especially now I don't think it's big enough able to sustain so many loids at once, not that there aren't ones I want to be more popular.
>>
>>15700223
Hey though, you discovered 2 Meiko songs that you like though, that's 2 more than what you started with. Better then nothing.

If it's any consolation I've been trying to get into Rin, I can fap for days on that semen demon but I just don't like her voice. I've given up and just use her as masturbation material.
