Not as much Cirno herself, but going her route only is the worst. Sanae was the one who resolved the "indicent" and Meiling had some of the most creative and funny canon to date in hers. Cirno's route is the closest to filler, if anything.

Well, Hifuu Club Activity's actual release has voice acting, fairly good OST, good animation, and better story. It was worth the 3500 yen. It's saddening that if you want to fully enjoy 幻想万華鏡, you have to get a digital version because the original product doesn't even have Pika's actually quite good voice-acting, with a god-like Marisa.

For one, Pika stopped fandubbing. Period. You won't have any single chance of hearing her again (and she actually wiped all her content off of Nico Nico Douga -- there are still a lot of reprints of her work on Youtube anyway)

For two, there's nothing wrong in watching 幻想万華鏡 in it's vanilla form. It even has a certain charm. Even with its most awkward moments. Making it look and sound like any other anime makes it lose this lovely awkwardness and charm that you can't see elsewhere.

For three, Pika benefited a lot from the novelty effect IMO. First draft of ep1 was genius, then it degraded more and more into free-wheeling (BR release of ep1 is definitely the champion) to the point I ended up preferring Torikodayo (http://www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/33198823) as Marisa, as her acting is more balanced and measured.

However, there's one quality I actually acknowledge with Pika Aizawa is her unmatched versatility. No other amateur VA has come close to her ability to perform completely different ranges of voices, tones and temper (she sure has her limits but they were the least obvious, compared to people like shourei小N, NENE, vivian198808, Torikodayo, ヘイ眠気覚まし, etc.).

Anyone know when that one anime with the Gensokyo apartment complex comes out? I don't mind it breaking canon when it's clearly meant to be silly. Something I didn't like about Fantasy Kaleidoscope is that it tries to accurately tell the story, but they still insert their shipping and headcanon. This episode was a perfect example. What the fuck does Daiyousei have to do with soku? She's not even fucking named and the entire episode is a ship between her and Cirno.

The rest of the 12.3 plot only got tiny nods that you won't even get if you didn't play the game, so you can't even say that it's secondary-targeted anymore. yes with even 15 or 16 minutes run time they would be pushing it to match the game story mode (around 20-45 minutes depending on skill level) and a 'whole lot of editing going on' is the result, even ten minutes would only be enough to feature a fight only.

I used to like this series and had my hopes up for it. But it's fucking terrible. All it is is anime tiddies fan service with barely any story. Almost all the cast are together when there's parties and shit as if they're the only people that exist in Gensokyo. Then you got the latest shit like this that is just shipping and no battles. Musou Kakyou is even worse than Gensou Mangekyou. The story is uninteresting as fuck, the clothing of the Touhou is inaccurate, it's just as meme-ridden as the topic of this thread, the spellcards are ridiculous and don't respect the danmaku system and go directly for shounen-like fights and the OST is nothing interesting at all. Not counting some QUALITY especially with the eyes (Remilia is a nice example). The only thing it has is better animation.

I'd go for early Gensou far more easily because the OST and the fights are more typical of Touhou. I also have a preference for the drawing style but this is personal.

Is there a hifuu club dubbed version uploaded with subs? I've found dubbed with no subs and subs with no dub, and could easily just watch them together, but maybe there's an already mixed version out there?

This one was pretty shit, some of the earlier eps were watchable for cool fight scenes.
