Usually the gloomy or shy girl but sometimes I go for the extremely cheery or hyperactive girl.
Though if there's a girl that has white/silver hair I can't contain myself.
What were you playing that made you ask that?

I find I gravitate towards "cool beauty" type characters. If they're violent or want to dominate me that only makes it better. And if it's a loli well that just takes the cake. Unfortunately this intersection of character traits is fairly rare

Genki/comic relief types are always my favorite!
My second favorite archetype is the shy/nervous girl who worries a lot.

I like the teacher, or the nurse.
I love it when they are cool and wise, that's nice stuff. Easy to get along with and trust.
Fashionable, and good hair, maybe red.

I tend to go towards the tomboyish type who playfully picks on you. The kind that acts before thinking and suddenly gets embarrassed.

Thinking back on best girls from various VNs/vidya/whatever, they don't seem to have any single unifying attribute linking them together.

Not really. In one story I'll go for the shy bookworm immediately, in another the confident and competent one. The key is in the details, not the archetype.

Xenosaga has veered me since I was young towards mature beauties with decently-sized funracks. Characters with long hair who either obey orders at any cost or take everything about life very seriously.

As I've gotten older though, I've stopped holding any absolute favorites. Better to just live in the moment.

I like whatever heroine has the best back and forth with the protagonist.
Not just the standard childhood friend fare, although if done correctly I really like it, but more of something bordering on the friendly rival sort of thing.
As an example, I really liked Chizuru from MuvLuv.
Aside from that, I like the mature nurse or teacher when just straight-out porn is considered. MuvLuv was also good to me in that regard.

A majority of people posting in this thread will. The dandere guy above and others like him like shy or awkward girls because they see themselves in those characters and are easier to relate to than a leader type girl for example.

I like calm, disinterested, quiet or apathetic characters in general. Use of colours I like or interesting or unique outfit designs is an added bonus.

I like the crazies they make boring shit great, I also like the ones who manipulate someone. Luck cute and hide a knife behind your back.

The characters I like the most are confident tomboys with minimal gap moe, though I feel like they usually end up being side characters more often than not. After that, girls who put up a cheerful front but are quietly struggling behind it.

No, because I dislike myself, and anyone like me is probably some sort of massive shit. Maybe if it were a heroine I might sympathize but she'd be depressing as shit and I don't think anyone writes those characters.

I tend to gravitate toward responsible and "motherly" heroines. They tend to be childhood friends, but they key is that they understand their partner and want to grow with each other. I don't really factor in appearance, although a healthy figure is a big plus.
