I came to /jp/ because of Touhou. At the beginning, I was a big fan of all kinds of derivative works out there, and I really respected the community. I read every translated comic, listened to everything I could get my hands on at Comiket and started learning Japanese.

A lot of years have passed since then and I don't really give a shit about the community anymore. The philosophical charm of Gensokyo as a refuge for mythology in modern times also wore off. At the beginning, I thought I'd found something that I'd keep with me all my life, but it turns out I was just a fad-riding faggot.

I hope that one day I will be a person who finds Touhou appealing again.

Touhou is a series of games I used to play, now I only wish I played them, while being distracted by the realities of NEET life.

It is a big part of my life. I am more into Touhou than any of my other interests and I would not have met my significant other and some good friends if I had not discovered it. Music-wise, Touhou arranges are almost all I listen to. And some of the characters are very dear to me.

It used to be a pretty big part of my life. I'd play the main line games and consume derivative works daily. Since then I've been forced to get a job and now only have time for the occasional shitpost.

Touhou itself is great, but ultimately its primary purpose to me is escapism, much like /jp/ itself. I wasn't as much into it 6 years ago, I was dealing with MMO addiction which again ties back to escapism.
The popularity of it in ten years is dependent on ZUN continuing to make new things for it- he's been slowing down because of his family and that puts a damper on things.

I only started getting interested in it about three years ago so I never experienced the boom. In a short time though, it's already become one of my favorite series and it's the only fandom I've ever given two shits about.

I hope it lasts forever but I can tell it will stay with me for the rest of my life regardless of how long the series goes.

It's one of the few reasons I haven't killed my self this past week. I lost my best friend/wife and might be losing the person who raised me. so good doujin works and music helps keep me from being overloaded with how bad things are.

2hu's pretty big in my life. I absorb it in some form everyday; games, music, pictures, reading, porn. It's definitely escapism, but not from any huge personal crisis or anything. I think it fills a void in my life where I don't have any real color anymore. These days just feel gray with an occasional high or low, and putting myself in that whimsical world of cute girls flying through magic forests and autumn mountains takes me back to when I remember being regularly happy.

A lot of the recent developments in the canon have been stressing me out, though. Reimu flat out killing Nosferatu in the manga, and now that publication that says Ran and Chen are merely personalities possessing the bodies of a fox and cat youkai who are entirely different beings.

The Ran thing isn't as big a deal as some people make it out to be.
For Ran, the character we know is the same as she's always been; the nameless fox is just a foundation. Everything about the character is Ran, which is why ZUN says you can treat her as the fox. He's correct there.

Chen IS in a bit of an odd spot, though and the more I look at it the less she makes sense.

Like some of the other posters in this thread, Touhou provided some much needed escapism for me when I needed it the most. These days, however, it's taken a more passive role. I'll play the games occasionally, listen to remixes, and collect pictures, but its biggest impact these days is its effect on my conceptual vocabulary. I find myself relating what I know about the lore to story tropes and real life events in a similar way that one would with traditional folktales. It's cultural.

I didn't really care much for Touhou when I first encountered it. I used to be a hardcore vocaloid fan and avoided Touhou because I thought it had nothing compared to vocaloid. But then after bad apple I decided that I wanted to know more about the characters in the video, and that was when I found the best way of coping with this crappy reality. I had to work my way through Touhou, listening to the songs, playing the games, and memorizing and reading up on the characters. I started Touhou a year ago, back then I only knew Reimu, I didn't even know Marisa existed and know Marisa became my best girl. I had a hard time knowing who was who and I was a complete dumbass when it came to gensokyo lore. I admit that Touhou is the only interest I've kept for this long and I love and know each one of the characters as if they were my friends. It's like over time Touhou became my favorite and I'm going to stick with it through the end because it's given a reason to continue on.

I occasionally play the games, in irregular but longish bursts, and come to /jp/ to post in these sorts of threads and learn about JP culture, if there are actually threads warranting it.

I'm probably a huge exception amongst /jp/sies: I crossied from /a/ a year or two ago, way after the touhou boom, and became interested in the games from /jp/.

I've hardly consumed any derivative 2hu works, even official manga, but I feel that playing it, alongside the easy atmosphere of /jp/, has just helped me relax and unwind in life.

As for in 10ish years, it depends, in it's core, on ZUN. If he releases an excellent entry with good gameplay, music and a popular cast, touhou could be revived in an instant, or become even more popular. If ZUN, however unlikely were ever to sell out, it might also survive longer, but as a propped up corpse.

I don't know anything about 2hu

I mod my games with Touhou characters if possible.
If it's an MMO I'll try to costumize it into Touhou characters and play Touhou music while playing these games.

That's the farthest I go.
